Just so everybody is aware it was not an inside job, My friend was the Asst Manager on duty that night and the one who was forced to open the safe and tied p. It is all on camera and not an employee of CVS. They checked for fingerprints and are doing a full investigation.

Most drug stores keep at least $5k in their safes at all times (I worked as a manager for 3 major chains, and this is standard procedure for all). That store does between $15k and $20k in cash per day. They do make regular bank drops, but from 4PM on, most drug stores typically have only 1 manager working, so there's no one to go and make the drop. Any money made from that point on will be in the safe, along with the normal safe balance.
The problem with that store (as well as many others) is that they put $$$ ahead of the safety of their employees. When I used to work for Genovese (back before Eckerd hosed them), we used to have an armored car come and take our deposits. The managers couldn't open the drop boxes without the armored car driver providing a second key. At most, a robber would get away with the safe's petty cash.
Most drug store chains have gone away from this practice, saying it costs too much. They now require employees to bring the deposits to the bank. More often than not, this is done at night, as upper management does not want money left in the store overnight. So it's up to the night manager (usually a college-age kid) to lock the store with the money in hand, drive to a bank (hopefully nearby, but not always), and make the deposit. So if a would be robber doesn't notice them leaving the store with the money, they just need to hang out around a bank at midnight.
I actually got written up a few times for refusing to take money to the bank at night. I'm sorry, but I didn't even make night drops when the bank was in the same shopping center as my store, let alone when I had to drive to the bank to do it. It's a safety issue. But someone in upper management felt that it was safer for me to take the money to the bank at night than it was for me to leave it in the safe until the next day, when I could have someone go with me to the bank.
Boneheads.
You Have no Idea what your talking about. I work at CVS and everything you said was incorrect. Get a life, loser.

Just so you know I am not even working at that store and might get transfered there now, and Us long island kids dont need drugs like you stupid city people that have everything at the tip of your fingers and use none of it, including proper english. And I am a manager at CVS and get drug tests monthly, just so you know.
