Oxycontin abuse is prevalent among young kids in the Sachem and the Three Village schools. They start out taking a prescription pill which is "legal heroin" and then start chewing and snorting the time release pills. The high is then increased and they need more and more. Oxycontin call sell for $10.00 A PILL and you can get a heroin high for much less so our Oxy kids are now snorting heroin. Are your kids SKINNY, SLEEPY, SLURRING their words? Do they have pinpoint eyeballs? WAKE UP and confront them, get them help asap. Oxy and heroin take no prisoners and death is inevitable unfortunately. Another drug to look out for is Adderall and Adderall XR - this is a meth/cocaine high that is also very popular with the kids and EASY to get. They go for $4 to $10 a pill depending on the dosage. Kids open the time release capsules crush and snort, or just take a large dose and get an amphetamine high for hours. These are DRUGS and when your kids go to detox they have to take other drugs like methadone to stay off the Oxy. Then they figure out that taking benzos with methadone will get them just as high! If you even think your kid is taking any prescription pills or heroin go buy a urine drug test and don't take no for an answer! Oxycontin and Percoset are OPIATES - HEROIN and Adderall is AMPHETAMINE - METH/COKE

Take the boy and beat him into a coma. Then when he wakes up he'll be through the detox stage.

Parents today are idiots. Actually the parents today are the one who didn't get a beaten when they did something wrong. And now look at society.

I'm a high school teacher in a wealthy northern-Suffolk district. I see kids come into school wacked out of their heads all the time. Sometimes I call their parents with concerns about grades, behavior, whatnot... and parents seem to be either completely clueless or completely apathetic. I agree that parents need to wake up and take a more active interest in their kids' lives.

Parents-what's in your medicine cabinet at home? Kids are pretty resourceful these days; cough medicine, benadryl & your Rx meds. Hide it in a safe. Its not the area you live in or the parents or teachers. It's all combined. Parents keep in contact with the teachers & parents of who your kids hang around with.
As far as I know, Oxy's are about $1 per mg. Which means $40 or $80 per pill. I could be wrong....Once kids like the high & get addicted, they usually can't afford the habit & turn to heroin. Its the cheapest drug out there & right in your backyard. There's no more traveling into the city to get it. Opiate addiction can be treated with methadone or suboxone. I don't know much about adderall or amphetamine abuse, other than crystal meth is made with battery acid, Drano & sudafed, among other things. Its gross & will turn the person you love into someone you'll never recognize ever again. It warps your mind so badly, its hard to recover from it.

Parents...watch out for benzos...Valium, Xanax, Klonopine, etc. These are what will kill your kids faster than anything. They're also cheap & kids don't know when its too much until its too late.

I have a 15 Year Old daughter, I talk to her openly about drugs and sex as much as I can. We watch intervention together and TALK about it. I am open and honest with her about experiences I have had with kids I knew who used drugs when I was her age. I am hoping that when the time comes, and I know it someday will that she is offered drugs, or alcohol, or is sexually active she will be comfortable enough to talk to me about it. I wish I had this relationship with my mother when I was a teenager. AND let me tell you she does TELL me some stories about the kids in school.

The SCPD is down 400 cops. Sector car operators have no time to do community policing which deals with the drug probems. Sector car operators go from 911 call to the next. But Stevie Levy is telling all Suffolk residents crime is down and he is doing more with less cops. The trueth is crime (aka drug sales) is on the rise, and Stevie Levy is doing less with less. Write or phone your county legislatures. Also Stevie Levy did away with the DARE program in our schools.

Kids are definitely overmedicated these days. All of a sudden every onther kids has ADD or ADHD. But we, as parents and as patients, have learned to believe that doctor's know their stuff. & if they say your kid needs meds, than that's what we do. We medicate them because a professional said to. Do you really think the parents walk into a doctor's office or drugstore saying 'my kids needs meds, give em to him' & they say 'oh OK'. Gimme a break!

Who wants these kids medicated with add hyperactivity medications. It is the school districts and the run amok want to be physicans[SCHOOL PSCHOLOGISTS]who have no educatiion regarding medication. The same schools that are fighting for the return of the SCCP DARE PROGRAM are the worst offenders of pushing drugs on our children.

Give me a break."Because a proffesional told you so"It is insuarance driven and the god like worshipping of your local physicians and their OPINIONS needs to be reevaluated.Physians no longer practice medicine they practice insurance and if they do not play nicely they get kicked out of the insurance network. The general public really needs to educate oneself in the healthcare industry.

This is to Legistrator Kennedy,
I was at that meeting and other meetings where you asked about the DARE progran in our schools. Do you now see that it has very little effect on our children, Smithtown has a very big drug problem. I also had a child addicted to herion, we do need to take out heads out of the sand, the dealers are here and are staying al long as we allow it.

Whether its insurance or a school official or doctor, it is instilled in us to believe these people know whats best. I I didn't say it was right, but that this is how it has been for so long. That's why I said that. I agree with you about insurance companies pushing their products. How many people had ADD when you were a kid? I didn't know any.

You really just seem to be a angry, miserable person looking to stir up some garbage anywhere you can. You try to sound intelligent....here's a tip...try using spell check, it might help.
