Good start but why is the Smithtown school district the only one involved? Why has Hauppauge not joined in? Hauppauge HS is as bad as any of the Smithtown schools when it comes to drug availibility. Every school district and every community needs to become involved because the heroin problem is bigger than they care to admit.

Painkiller & Heroin Addiction help.

Buprenorphine (Suboxone) is a medication when combined with therapy treats the medical condition of opioid addiction in the privacy of a doctor's office. FDA approved in 2002, this treatment has improved quality of life for patients and provided dignity to opiate addiction treatment.

The naabt.org Patient/Physician Matching System has connected 15,185 patients with at least one of the 2,281 participating physicians.

This confidential System naabtList.org helps connect people addicted to opioids to doctors providing buprenorphine treatment. The free 24/7 service lets patients reach out for help anytime with privacy.

Patient registration is fast. A short list of questions helps match patients to physicians. All information is confidential residing on a secure server. Once the application is sent, emails are sent to physicians. The System then allows the physician to contact patients confidentially by email.

For information about addiction and buprenrophine, visit www.naabt.org

This makes alot of sense. The physician prescribed addictions that fueled this wave of abuse noww have created a nice little government sponsored cottage industry that is great for the pharmaceutical company that made the drug[but first they needed addicts].The FDA approves this while also allowing the flooding of the streets with oxy=cotin which was very easy to get on the market in 2002.People this proves the FDA MANIPULATED THE PUBLIC FOR THE BENEFIT OF BIG PHARMACEUTICAL.Lobbyist and special interest groups with the help of greedy politicians started this drug epedemic.

Many thanks to the Smithtown School Board for recognizing the importance of communnity awareness. Education of parents as well as students is the only way to eliminate the epidemic in our town. Hopefully the district will also be able to get together resources for parents already dealing with this tragedy, in the form of phone numbers, rehabs, doctors, etc. When this crisis hits your home, you need to be prepared, there are no heroine addiction guideline readily available to parents, and also be prepared, most insurance guidelines will differ from your personal guidelines. There is alot of homework to be done on this topic, as they say, it takes a Village. Good job Smithtown!!

Contact your School Board with your concerns. Smithtown held a Parents/Community meeting last night that was attended by over 800 people. The word is getting out, and people are being educated about this issue. There was alot of valuable information given by both administration, the Suffolk County Police Department, parents, healthcare professionals. There is no cost to the district for a forum of this type. Suggest they contact Smithtown for an outline of their program, perhaps they can work together for a townwide plan. Good luck!!
