I worked in this so-called "dump" for more than half of my life from the time I was 13 and periodically until I was 27. It truly is a travesty what has transpired. There are hundreds of people that have worked there and I'm sure many, like myself are deeply saddened at the passing of a hallowed institution. As worn and haggard a building as it may have been, the memories inside that building will live forever in the minds of employees and patrons alike.

I say donate it to a nonprofit. We are planting a church on the lake and need a building.

Since you were there maybe you can help the rest of us with insight?
Was it the owner or the town off Smithtown who led the BI down the path to ruin?
I worked there during the 80's. The original owners, the Hubers, were able to keep the pumps going and the town at bay. Once it was sold, the new owners didn't keep it up and then the town shut them down for code violations. Many of those same violations were there in the 80's, but the the original owners had a long-standing relationship with Smithtown. We worked around them and kept it safe, but the new owners didn't have a chance.

Yes, the BI made 'tons of money', but the new owner never made a dime.

My question is, if the land isn't good enough to support a business, then how can the town or county build a park and concession stand there? Sounds fishy to me.

Landfill. They could build it up and they could put the concession on a slab atop a hill above the waterline...

Its sad to see the bavarian inn in such an ugly state. My uncle got married there. Its just sitting there people still go on the property to fish and stuff and alot of skateboarders go there. maybe the property could be used as a skatepark it would be a good idea so we dont have to skate around behind stores i dont think it would cost much to build a few ramps. Although the place has a long histort its probably not going to be standing for much longer so why not

The town should buy it and build a nice classy strip joint. Ever since the Bull Creek Inn in Smithtown closed there is no good place for a gentleman to go and have a good time. The surrounding area and the type of people that live near there would surely frequent a nice strip joint.......and think of all the late night skinny dipping that could go on? Sheer joy, fun and simple. That is what the people need.
