Pit bull that attacked dog shot, killed in Nesconset

An off-duty New York City law enforcement officer shot and killed a pit bull mix in his Nesconset neighborhood Wednesday after the pit bull attacked another dog, Suffolk police said.

There are many species of dogs that were bred for combat or guard duties. A small number of them should be illegal to own or keep in populated areas. Pit Bulls meet this criteria in my opinion. They regularly attack other dogs, people and even the hand that feeds them. Even good dog owners have problems with them, and bad ones almost always do. Even though I support the right to bear arms, I don't think you should be allowed to own machine guns or anti-tank weapons for the same reason.
