Help! Police and Fireman on LI need to understand it's not all about the money. How about a police force that keeps down crime getting paid for what they produce. We also need a paid Fire Department on LI. Help! Help! It's all about the money!

If they did nothing wrong why dont they just fight for their jobs back.

Why would they be seeking so much money. Or would that be for compainsation they would be getting from loss of wages from kick backs and corruption.

These B.S lawsuits really must come to an end.

Wouldn't "good" cops have gone to the DA after witnessing these things in order to catch the bad guys rather than keep mum until the multi million dollar lawsuit?

Not surprised to hear that the OB police are no less corrupt then they were 30 years ago. It's always been the selective law enforcement of the wild west out there...the stories I could tell of the summers of '77,'78 and '79.....

This is a reflection of the department's culture.
Go with the flow and keep your mouth shut. I love how the finger-pointing starts once the boat gets rocking. They may not have been fired properly in the first place but now they should be fired and banned from law enforcement for looking the other way. If their claims are true how can the public trust them to be honest and uphold our laws?

Finally the truth comes out. I hope that this serves as an example to all those crooked cops out there that just because they wear a uniform doesn't mean they're above the law. These 5 men are honest, hardworking people and good cops. They deserve respect and I hope that justice is served.

They did go to the DA, Carter Burke. How do you think these allegations became public? Obviously they don't expect to get $325 million but the amount is so high because its meant to set an example and reflect just how bad it really was over there under Kommandant Hesse. You'll see.

THESE ARE DISGRUNTLED OFFICERS WHOSE IDEA OF VALUES INCLUDE HARRASSING PEOPLE ON THE BEACH FOR PLAYING BALL & EATING PEANUTS. THEY WERE OBVIOUSLY FIRED BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT GOOD POLICE OFFICERS & THAT IS THE SAME REASON THAT THEY CANNOT FIND A JOB NOW.FLAGRANT LIES FOR PERSONAL PROFIT & SLANDERING THE NAME OF GEORGE HESS, WHO IS AN HONEST, FAIR & HARDWORKING FATHER, HUSBAND & PUBLIC SERVANT ARE THE REAL CRIMES HERE. THE INTEGRITY OF THE POLICE FORCE IS IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY SERVE. GEORGE HESSE IS A SHINING EXAMPLE OF THIS INTEGRITY & IS HIGHLY RESPECTED IN THE COMMUNITY. THE DISGRUNTLED OFFICERS NEED TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THEY ARE JUST NOT WORTHY OF THE HIGH STANDARDS THAT CHIEF HESSE EXPECTS IN HIS DEPARTMENT.IT IS TIME FOR THESE MEN TO TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR THEIR OWN SHORTCOMINGS & NOT FURTHER TARNISH THEIR REPUTATIONS WITH LIES AND GREED.

Why would 138 year round residents on 10 blocks need 24 Police Officers? Talk about a police state!

This matter has been discussed quite a bit on a Blog Board. My guess is that ALL of them are somehow involved - the accused and the accusers. It just matters who is more WRONG, and what agendas need to be satisfied by those higher up.

WHAT GOOD will come of this - possibly, is that TOM SPOTA will have the opportunity to 'deflect and delay' other legitimate inquires into his own police department, namely SCPD, and more specifically, the Major Crimes Bureau.

Let us see: He ripped apart the Southampton PD with that young lady who fled with her Internet friend to Mexico. Put the case of the SPD cop accused of abusing woman on the front page. Now we have the Lloyd Harbor " scathing SIC report ", and it always seems it is somebody else. Oh, my gosh, it is now OPD. Not saying one way or the other about the integrity of that PD, but there has been too many people writing about it that makes me wonder why those matters haven't been addressed already.

The article makes it sound like they didn't and that's all I have to go on.- "The complaint says that, although he told three of them they were terminated because of budget cuts, he told other officers in the department the fired officers were "rats." He also said Thomas Snyder and Edward Carter were fired because they "were to wear a wire" for the Suffolk district attorney, which the complaint says was not true."
As for the suit setting an example, if the money comes from taxpayers I would have to very strongly disagree with that reasoning.

It's about time Hesse got his. All these allegations were more or less common knowledge. Hopefully the guilty parties will have to face the music, there's nothing more disgusting than police abusing their power.

Too bad about Frank, he was one of the good guys out here. Hopefully he gets compensated.

Good! It is about time. We have been summer residents there for over 5years and have noticed that crook Hesse and his lackies WAY out of line. We have reported them and it is good to see the truth finally coming out after Village Mayor Joseph Loeffler tried to cover up the story and bribe people to keep quite.
