Well-I couldn't find an article about what club it is. But I would ask the people who have never been to Texas How in the world can they comment on it? Every state has their bad and good elements. Life is what we make it. I used to work for a club in Killeen, TX. I worked the door checking id's. Paid my bills, and that is the only reason I worked there. And before people start calling me names and junk-I only checked ID's and took $$ for incoming fees. Nada else.

Ruth, my husband and I both hold Master's Degrees...who couldn't hack it where, now?? Please think before you make sweeping generalizations. And to the previous poster, we didn't "start making babies at 18."

YES, some soldiers are involved with drugs.
YES, some soldiers act like jackasses and get into trouble.
YES, soldiers are as human as anybody.
YES, the transient nature of the military population causes military towns to suffer in some ways - the "it's not my hometown so why should I care" attitude does exist.

However, when you talk about soldiers making up a large percentage of the crime in Killeen, you need to also take into account that soldiers make up a large percentage of the population of Killeen. There are approximately 60,000 troops at Fort Hood...that's not including their spouses and children. Plus, for all of the negative that military posts/soldiers might bring to a town, there are a lot of ways cities benefit from our presence. Get rid of the 150,000+ people associated with Fort Hood. There go 150,000+ shoppers, diners, movie theater-goers, home buyers and sellers - basically 150,000+ contributors to your local economy. Not to mention the employment opportunities Fort Hood provides to local civilians. Serving one's country doesn't make one above the law, and there are bad apples in every bunch. But it's frustrating to those of us who are trying to do something good for our country and for our local communities to be lumped in with those that are causing trouble.

HERE IS THE DEAL. THERE ARE MOE DRUGS IN FORT HOOD THAN ANYWHERE IN KILLEEN. SOLDIERS COME TO KILLEEN AND BECAUSE IT IS NOT THEIR HOMETOWN THEY DESTROY KILLEEN WITHOUT CARE. THEONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CIVILIANS AND THE SOLDIERS IS THAT THE SOLDEIRS GET THE MESS THEY DO CLEANED UP BY THEIR CHAIN OF COMMAND. YOU HAVE SISSY 25-30 YEAR SOLDIERS CALLING THEIR NCIIC'S IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WITH STUPID CRAP THAT USUALLY GETS THEM ARRESTED. THIS INCLUDES SPOUSAL ABUSE, DUI'S, BARFIGHTS,DRUG CHARGES BEING AMONG THE TOP. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE IS "SERVING THEIR COUNTRY" DOESNT EXCLUDE THEM FROM THE MISBEHAVIOR. FORT HOOD SOLDIERS ARE USUALLY AMONG THE ONES-IF NOT THE MAJORITY- OF THE ONES GETTING CAUGHT IN DRUG AND PROSTITUTION RINGS(AT LEAST IN KILLEEN). BEFORE YOU WRITE SOMETHING AS STUPID AS WHAT YOU POSTED, CHECK YOUR FACTS. THE CLUB WAS PUT OFF LIMITS BECAUSE OF ISSUES WITH CIVILIANS AND MILITARY. LETS FACE IT, MOST SOLDIERA NOWADAYS ARE PEOPLE WHO COULDNT HARDLY HACK IT IN HIGH SCHOOL, MUCH LESS COLLEGE AND THINK THAT JOINING THE ONLY INSTITUTION THAT LETS THEM IN MEANS BEING HOLIER THAT US CIVILIANS BUT HERE IS THE NEWS, YOU GUYS ARE JUST AS HUMAN AS WE ARE IF NOT EVEN MORE FLAWED. MOST OF YOU MIGHT "SERVE YOUR COUNTRY" BUT "DISHONOR KILLEEN".

Guys look the army will never be the same, in fact there are some plans that i have seen for official military operations that plan to change the nation , to the North American Union after the collapse of the American dollar/ monerty system. This is something that the top bras would like to keep from there lower level soldiers and want you react and not plan. Also since my wife is a officer they have gave her all the information on what to do with her money in this time of crisis
(gold and silver bullion) basically the deal. See they want you guys to worry and fight about dumb stuff like clubs and cars rims etc.... stuff that does not matter , while they plan the more meaniful issues. So Ncos LEAD AND PREPARE YOUR SOLDIERS because they are the ones that will do all the labor and feel the pain. Note why do think there was a big rush to finsh the new housing on fort hood ! think on it!. See they want to move as many soldiers on post as they possilbe can to help with feeding the families and etc..... also its safer . ALSO DONT FORGET THE MILITARY SENIOR OFFICER LEADERS AL READY KNOW WHATS GOING TO HAPPEN THEY JUST ARENT TELLING YOU!

Same soldiers that NEED all the rules the military imposes on them because they wouldn't MAKE IT on the outside otherwise.

First lets not bring Steve back he has moved on. Secondly Fort Hood has potential to be a good place. Hell it looks like the bad phase in Killeen is starting to clear up. I believe it's time to stop crying and biatching about whats going in Killeen and do something about it. It's sad to say but some of you are right. Some soldiers do destroy killeen. They have no control over their kids. They have a small squad of kids and let them run loose in the stores and on the streets. They are home buyers and renters. Yet some of them destroy the properties they get or rent. If Killeen demands a higher standard and enforce(not just ask for it) maybe things would be better between the soldiers and civilians of Killeen. Yet remember one little thing for each soldier that is destroying Killeen, there is a civilian doing the same thing.

I just read this thread, actually browsed through it. I've lived in the Killeen area since 1976, as a child, a civilian, a Ft.Hood contractor, and as a soldier (currently active duty, again). I've seen good and bad in both military and civilians. The problems facing Killeen, CC, HH, etc are big and real. This area has problems that a lot of larger metro areas don't have to deal with. That's the negative side of things - so what. It will get better eventually, as people get tired of dealing with crap.
The good side? This is one of the fastest growing areas in the state, and has been for several years, even with back to back deployments and several thousand soldiers at a time being gone a year at a time or longer. When I moved to Ft.Hood as a child in 1976, Hwy190 was just a 2 lane road from Belton clear to Lampasas. Cove still had some dirt roads, and we had to drive to Temple or Austin to go to a Mall or shop for a large number of things that just couldn't be found here.
This area has gone through, and will continue to go through growing pains. I think people should just close look around, and see that there is lot to do and see in this area, and within a 100mi radius. You can't please everyone, and regardless how hard you try, some people are just going to bitch and moan. So what.

When Ft.Hood places a club off limits, they do it for a reason. When soldiers are at risk for injury, etc Ft.Hood has a responsibility to act accordingly. It costs money to train soldiers and bring them to a level of proficiency that benefits the Army and it's mission. When soldiers start getting hurt, shot at , etc... then it's time to act. It isn't the only solution, you're right. But, by restricting access to a business, club, etc by military service members it is a step in the right direction. Say what you want about Killeen, but you will find similar happenings around any military installation in this country. It goes with the territory, period.

I have spent my year in Iraq, and will spend another year in Afghanistan next year. I signed up for it, and have no problem with it. This area has an edge it never used to have prior to our involvement in Iraq. It was bound to happen.

Let's get over ourselves a little bit, take a deep breath, and just go on about our daily lives without trashing anything and everything that is a little different than we'd like to see. The problems we have in this area aren't a military problem, or necessarily a civilian problem - they are PEOPLE problems and while it may get worse before it gets better - it all starts with us, and our attitude.

Hats off to all the military men and women that have and still are serving. And, Hats off to all the men and women in the civilian sector who help make this a better area for everyone, military and civilian alike.

If you're not from here and can't wait to leave - I get it, and I respect your opinion - you have a right to it. For those who are from here, and I count myself among that group, let's keep in mind that some folks might not like it here, and That's ok? But we can all do our part to help these folks feel at home, even if they don't want us to. We're good neighbors and always have been.

That's my two cents...

Everyone have a great day!

Honestly ill say it like this.. Military always have someone to back them up is why they think they can get away with it.. as a US Solider i can say i have been to clubs around here.. and there all trashy.. im 20 and dont go out or drink.. why does someone need to drink and smoke and use drugs to have a good time? its less of the civilian population doing and selling of drugs.. military personel come home from over seas and take advantage of their rights.. and are wrong i agree in some aspecs but also disagree, because if you look close enough youll catch the killeen police violation the law too.. so before you judge someone make sure your hands are washed clean! and steve you cant say shit look at your past your hands arnt washed clean..

Yeah NO. The beach nightclub has always had the same owner and his name is Fred. Sorry to burst yer bubble and it still is open and military members never stopped going.

Robert,
Your comment that the club would do fine without soldiers does not hold water here in Killeen. The club in fact closed down soon after the ban. It has been purchased and is being remodeled now. Fort Hood is the largest Military base on the planet. To think that the population assigned to Fort Hood does not have an affect on the local economy is very uninformed. Female Soldier, as I understand the reason for the ban, to many fights and the owners would not provide security, also the club had picked up the reputation as a place to buy drugs. I am going off what was put out at staff call, I never went to the club.

Austin is pretty progressive (so all Texans aren't red necks). Boy isn't this a typical Army town type of conversation. I'm a reservist from up north (you know ... the nice part of the country) & I'm glad I'm only here in Texas for a short time. It's hot, humid, people are usually angry (the heat pisses me off too), etc.

To boot this is an Army town; and they always suck (though Killeen and Harker Heights is better than most I've seen back when I was active).

No matter which way of life you prefer, civilian or military, all have bad people, if that were not so things like Columbine would not have happened. The one thing I can attest to is that I am a Texan thru and thru, but Killeen and Fort Hood are not any representaion of Texas. This is the most undiciplined place that I have ever been stationed, soldiers and civilians are both as guilty as doing anything they think they can get away with. It is up to either NCO's for military and law enforcement for civilians to set examples in order for a society to live in peace with one another in harmony, that is what rules are for. That being said the Army values are there for soldiers to live by such as integrity, doing what is right in the absence of supervision. This is a value that is very lacking in todays military as a whole and expecially here at Fort Hood. I requested to come here as my return assignment from Kuwait, I wish I had returned to Fort Campbell.

You know it gets really upsetting when i hear ppl bash our soldiers all the time...Yes, their are some soldiers that get in trouble and Yes, their are Civilians that also get into situations...but i do not agree with all you bastards that talk crap about our soldiers. My husband is a soldier and I am very proud of all of them bad apples or not...They put their lives on the line for us regardless and ppl should have a lil more respect.
