This is now just making the news. Asian carp has been there for a few years. Hell, I've been hit by one! People even bow fish these fish! I feel bad for her and her family, but many people have been injured in the past years! This is not NEW news!

These fish are in every lake or waterway that connects to the Mississippi River. They infest and grow very quickly and are very easily spooked by running motors. They hang in the upper few feet of the water table, so they jump out when frightened. Take my words of advice, don't ski, tube, or boat in these waters. These fish grow to about 40 lbs +, so you can just imagine how hard of a collision it would be. Again, no new news, but one to take heed to. You have been warned!

You're a dumbass but I sure wish people wouldn't use "Racy" when they mean "Racist". Can't they tell the difference? If not, look it up.

This is a sensationalist, poorly written and researched story. As others said, these fish have been in the river and related oxbow lakes, and have become a serious ecological problem. There is no way to control them, and they do congregate in huge schools. They react to the sound of boat engines by jumping out of the water, and have hit drivers and boat passengers. This woman was riding in a tube pulled behind a pontoon boat.
Fish leaping into the air struck her as she went past, like hitting a bug with a windshield.

These fish are plant feeders--they do NOT "attack" other fish or people. They did not "hold her down". She simply was knocked off the tube into the water and had a biomass of fish over her when she tried to surface

And how did she lose her life jacket??? A properly zipped and snapped personal flotation device would have stayed in place during the entire event, and would likely have prevented the broken collarbone from impact with the fish.

This is one giant "fish tale" (Pun specifically intended."

Boat motor spooked the fish, she panicked and fell off the tube, decided it was her turn for 15 min. fame. End of story.

Since I don't fish or spend time on the water around here I hadn't heard about the asian carp, so it was news to me. Not the best reporting, tho

I own a camp down there and the carp DO fly out of the water as boats simply freak them out. As said before, they have been there for years doing this. There should be signs posted though for newcomers to the area, and WHY in the world would you want to put your body in that nasty water anyway???

You are an idiot. Why are you people on here criticizing this woman. Yes, these fish grow big enough and for this many to attack at once would certainly keep you under water. about the time you come up for air, there they are collided with you again. Wait until you see these fish for yourself, then you will change your attitude. That is a promise!!!
