A former Teen Challenge student exposes this abusive Christian alcohol and drug program. Although seen by many as a worthwhile organization, Teen Challenge has a dark side, one of pathological abuse and an obsession with the almighty dollar.

so you are saying that a 67% rate isnt good enough? even if the 86% isnt true the tests proved the 67% show me another program with this success rate noone is perfect and you can only get better if you want to get better the cost of teen challenge is much less than most one month programs and it is about a year long gety educated

I am educated; I'm a college graduate with a degree in English.

The 67% is due to the way Teen Challenge calculates their "success rate." If they did it in an honest manner - take the percentage of success stories from everyone who is accepted into the program - they would have a success rate of about 5%, which is the national average.

Teen Challenge doesn't have a legitimate 67% success rate; the only people that the University of Tennessee had to work with were those that Teen Challenge told them about, and even then it's done on an honor system - no one knows if they were drunk or high the week before or the week after.

Just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean that he or she is an honest person. Christians lie, cheat, and steal just like everyone else, but justify it by claiming to be "forgiven," or "walking with the Lord," or some other nonsense.

I think before all of you nut job critics can sit and talk trash on a program that dedicates its purpose to bettering the lifes of troubled individuals, maybe you should spend a little time learning about just what it is they really pride themselfs in trying to teach all the students in there facility. I was there for 12 months, apointed by the courts against my will. I thought these people were copletely out of there minds. The staff ther was determined to shove the bible down my throat, So I thought. But I finally realize that most of the staff were at one time headed down the same road I was. TO HELL. they chose to take advantage of what was being put in front of them.TEEN CHALLENGE. they were being offered a new start and they took it. So now i was looking at what they were and what they had now become. Its different to learn how to change your life when your learning from people that have actually went through a change themselfs, I wouldn't have listened as easly had the staff been a bunch of makebelieve hipocrits. they teach what is real. so say what you will about this great bunch of people, they don't care because they know the truth, the question of the day is DO YOU?
To the staff of teen challenge in st. louis, thanks for everything you guys changed my life for ever, please dont change a thing. I would like to say hello to CR, brother Pat, and expecially brother TODD!!!!
sincerely,

I graduated TC in Kansas City Mo after 17 months. We were a group of 40+ girls and of all the girls I lived with at least 40 of them are pregnant, have relapsed, are still addicts, and they are not Christians. We have all avoided church and Christians Bc of the way we were treated at TC. The abuse is not only psycological but physical. There were disciplines like the burden bag where a student would carry a bag full of bricks for each of their burdens and would stand from sun up to lights out. The "Tiffany Diet" where we were only allowed half a can of fruit and water for every meal for a week or more. And this disciplines were done for simple mistakes or "bad behavior" such as talking during lights out. Or not participating in a activity having to do with their religious belief system. We were scared into submission. Our parents were lied to. My parents had no idea what was going on. When DFS was called on our center we were told to lie or suffer the consequences. The staff sat in the room while we were interviewed to make sure we said the right things. Our parents were never told about DFS coming.

I can't speak for other centers, but the one I went to was a nightmare.
