How Obama Is Destroying The American Coal Industry

The iconic Patriot Coal Corporation just recently filed for bankruptcy protection. Seeing the headline on a popular financial website was surreal and felt like something from the pages of Atlas Shrugged. Liberal cronies force “Patriot” corporation out of business for the sake of the common good? This isn’t fiction. This is the daily paper.

It’s not just the company name that’s symbolic, of course. There are few economic tasks as meaningful as the natural resources industry. It’s symbolic because it reveals man’s only real option for success on earth: harvesting the planet. Human prosperity requires digging up metals, mining coal, turning trees into lumber, and then building civilization with these sources of wealth.

Even though it’s the blood of the economy, and natural resources are one of the main ingredients for any and all sources of economic growth, the Obama administration has been flagrantly fighting it. In 2008, Obama even boasted of a plan to make electricity more expensive.

We Can’t Say We Weren’t Warned

Before he became president, Obama said in an interview that “Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket… that will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” That wasn’t a gaffe. That was the plan.

While the president didn’t successfully achieve his cap-and-trade insanity, he did achieve a series of new regulations through the EPA and other regulatory agencies.

In a Fox News opinion piece, Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment, wrote:“These are the first real, market prices that take Obama’s most recent anti-coal regulations into account, and they prove that he is keeping his 2008 campaign promise to make electricity prices ‘necessarily skyrocket.’”

The Future Of The American Economy

This isn’t just about a single company, a single resource, or a single industry. This is about the nature of our economy and our way of life as civilized people. This is about the future of America on a very basic level.

Obama’s administration has been waging a fruitless war against economics, and America is the one losing. We’ve lost billions in taxpayer money to his laughable solar-power endeavors. He’s stood in the way of allowing more oil to be drilled while America has enough oil to be the next Middle East. And he’s intentionally and publicly destroying the coal industry.

If you want to see an economic recovery, then freeing up our natural resources is a great first step. Natural gas, oil, coal – these should be seen and embraced, not fought and shackled by bureaucrats who hate a productive and free economy.

Again you're blaming Obama for regulations that have been in place for slmodt 20 years. Blame the Coal Companies for not meeting the "Clean Coal" Standard years ago, like they should have.

I sincerely believe he is the best choice. It could be so much worse and yes, it is not fair to the miners and the wonderful people of Floyd county but we need to pray and work for change, get out and vote, go volunteer, help a neighbor,or a stranger. We are the difference, one at a time, we can help maybe not fix but alleviate some of the wrongs to our poor disabled, and elderly.
Oh please get your politics straight he had two years before republicans took control of the senate!! Dumbass

Gas at almost 4.00 a gallon, food doubled in price, forced health insurance, utilities tripled in price... None of that is on the site... Yes he saved the auto industry but now Chevrolet motors is now known as "government motors", because that's who it's owned by... Spent more time using our tax dollars to vacation than he has in the white house and that is the "FACTS"!!

Almost everything you named, is just an example of infaltion, and would happen regardless of who was President. Chevy, and GM have paid there bialouts back, so no they're not owned by the Government. And no he hasn't spent more on Vacations. I'm not sure where your info is coming from, but you need a better source. Hell G.W. Took more days of vacation in one year than Obama has in four, and that is fact.

You sound as if he has spoken straight too you, how do you account for this president spending more money than all the other presidents in 250 years combined... Is that just caused by inflation as well.... It doesn't matter who wins the election because it will take 10 terms of a presidency to wipe out the debt and the last time I counted that was 40 YEARS... get a grip a monkey could have done a better job!!

This is a complete and utter lie, and simply shows how horribly uninformed you are. The debt was 10 trillion when Obama took office, it now sits at 16 trillion. That makes 6 trillion Obama's spent. I don't know what world you're living in, but 10 is a greater number than 6 here in the real world. Which makes it mathematically impossible for Obama to have out spent 250 years of debt. If this is an example of your Political Knowledge, I would suggest you find another topic better suited to your ignorance.

BTW, the 6 trillion attributed to Obama, isn't accurate. As 2 trillion of it was approved by Bush at the start of the 2009 fiscal calendar. Four months before Obama took office. But because it was the 2009 fiscal Calendar, the dbet for that 2 trillion is added to Obams's. This is how economics works, but seeing as how you don't know 10 is greater than 6, I shouldn't expect you to understand Fiscal Calendars, or basic Economics period.

Please by all means use your computer that you rely so much on and look it up... Why so defensive, surely you don't believe that you're the only one on this post that has an education, even with the 2 trillions that was put on him that leaves 4 trillions which is still more than the 250 years prior... Please try tuning your television to something other than CNN or one of the other very liberal media outlets

LMAO 4 is now greater than 10? Please feel free to educate yourself you moron. The Debt was at 10 trillion, that means in those 250 years 10 trillion was spent by our government. Obama has not out spent them. Again unless you live in some alternate reality it's mathematically impossible. Just save some face and admit your were wrong, and uninformed on that issue. It's not a big deal, and no one will look down on you.

Obviously you see something thats not there. Becasue the statment he mad is false.

"You sound as if he has spoken straight too you, how do you account for this president spending more money than all the other presidents in 250 years combined "

This is what he said, exactly. All other presidents combined equaled 10.7 trillion. Obama has spent roughly 5.3 trillion. This makes his statement completely wrong. No matter how you try to spin it.

Well, this has been an interesting dicussion. Seems a few got their feelings hurt and some enjoyed the discussion!

So, tomorrow will be the day that we've all weighted for!

In the mid-term election, 2010, the voters sent a message to Washington. After the Votes are counted tomorrow night/early Wednesday morning will we know whether another message was sent!

Right now, I don't like paying double for gasoline, higher electric bill, higher grocery prices, etc. Groceries have gone up 20% in the last five years (yes, I include the last year of Bush (remember, the Dems were in charge in the House and Senate his last two years).

Either way, I'm think it's too late for our country.... we didn't use to have to worry about things like this.......sad!

As I read all of these posts, especially the one about the deficit,I just have to say it took 8 years to put us so far into debt how is anyone supposed to pull us out of it in 4? Think about our economy during the Clinton administration. Also, as far as coal goes if coal companies would comply with EPA guidelines (like every other industrial industry has to) our miners wouldn't be without jobs.
