Ok, so everyone who wants to run for local elections has filed. It looks to me like an awful lot of talented people took a pass. The people I talked to said that the jobs just weren't worth the constant criticism. I've lived here my whole life and I could name twenty people who would be outstanding on the city commission, but thanks to places like topix ,public service is seen as too much of a burden. Is there any cure?

There is no "cure" because we live in America where everyone is guaranteed the freedom of thought and speech. Individuals running for public office should be aware of the constant criticism they may face and, if they don't want to face it, they shouldn't run. In other words, if they can't stand the extreme heat, they need to stay out of the kitchen. It sounds like the people you talked to made the decision that was best for them (and best for everyone else). Many thanks to those brave and dedicated enough to our community to run and serve us. We admire your courage to take it all on, even if we don't always agree with you.

School board looks like it has five good candidates. Community College is a mixed bag. Wonder why none of the incombents filed to run.

Know nothing about the college incumbants. Do know the President is doing heckuva job. Also, know some faculty members gripe and moan about every leader. I hope they don't run off Dr. Barwick.
As far as the USD candidates, can't go wrong with any of them. Only hesitency is Jeff Chubb. He has done a good job but has he been on too long? Is his heart still in this? I don't know but there are still five good candidates in my book.

Education law is complicated, and Chubb knows his stuff. I think he's a plus on the board.

Jeff Chubb's knowledge of the law didn't keep the school district out of court on that illegal dismissal of the teacher. Or was that the Superintendent and Principal who screwed that up.

I've talked to one of the incumbents at the college. Basically, there's no sense of urgency because the college is well managed. Finances are good, being run professionally, that sort of thing. The incumbent told me that Dr. Barwick knows his stuff.

My neighbor knows two of the ICC incumbents who didn't run. The view quoted above is correct. Both of them are very relieved that after a string of president problems, the college has an experienced, rational person managing the college.

Both of the incumbents were not elected by the populous. They we picked through the board to represent the citizens. They could care less about the college. They both did it for their own selfish reasons.

Bill Kelly was "picked by the board" and he saved us thousands of dollars that would have otherwise been spent on a bunch of worthless crap. I hate that he's not running because I think he has common sense and represented us all well. KYM KAYS is the one that needs to go ASAP. She's never met a spending spree she didn't like.I heard she and her ICC board?

Some of the members of the Board just feel like it "will look good on my resume" and you are probably right about Kays. She didn't attend meetings on a very regular basis...big pet peeve of mine.
