I have two stories, about Independence hospital. First one takes place in ER. Finger was injured, pointing in a different way then it should and i couldn't move it. ER took ex-rays and then they were having a nurse splint it. New nurse- couldn't figure out the procedure, she was definitely nervous. I showed her how to do it. Yes i splinted myself in the ER at Mercy hospital while a patient and training a nurse! No one else around! My bill was almost $800. Next story is a billing issue for a different matter a year later. Received a letter from a collection company representing Mercy hospital for a bill of $33. Told them didn't know anything of a bill, never knew there was a bill. Come to find out they were sending it to the right address in a Different town! What??? Adress on file was correct, they just didn't understand how this was happening. It was still not their fault, we should of known, and bill had to be paid through collections or it could jeopardize credit rating. Care was received at urgent care and the deductible was paid. No other paper work or billto came in about other expenses. Should of known huh? I'm not going to. Mercy if there's a next time.

I went to the er window bleeding through everything i had on i told them what was happening they told me to go have a seat i walk over to my husband with tears in my eyes he asks me what they said and i told him so i just stand and wait (it hurt to sit not to mention gross) while standing in a pool of my own blood for a good 5 min while the nurses are laughing and carring on my husband finally gets pissed pounds his fist on the er window when they seen the blood on the floor they took me back. after exams/bloodwork all that jaz they tell me maam you have had a miscarriage. no Doppler was used no sonogram NOTHING theb they tell me we need to do a d&c to make sure.it all comes out and u don't get an infection i refused bc they took no other measures to make100% sure i leave with a follow up with my gyno 2 weeks later....they did a sonogram first thing i was 14 weeks along a miscarriage did happen but to my sons twin (Vanishing twin syndrom) if i would have let mercy do a d&c i woukd have had an unwilling abortion :( i thank god everyday for standing up for my self and saying NO!!

When a relative was hospitalized at Mercy, her urine-soaked gown laid in the window sill for three days before, finally, an aide noticed it and removed it. I let it sit there to see how long it would take before a nurse or an aide DID SOMETHING. Pitiful. I had to watch EVERY medication that came in. The doofus running the place is a physical therapist and the nuns behind the scenes make all the decisions. They have run off many fine physicians with their dictatorial ways and are keeping incompetent workers that kiss up to the sisters. Best closest place around--Wilson county hospital in Neodesha.

the CEO name is Eric, and he's no doofus, he's a smart and very caring person, he try's very hard to give this community great service, working way to many hours than he has too, if you took time to get to know the man, you would never, ever say anything bad about him at all, we are lucky to have him here in the community and he is wonderful to work for! Thanks Eric for all you do for us! By the way, we only have one nun here, and she wouldn't hurt a fly! S

I went to Mercy ER with my son who was having a severe asthma attack and was turning blue. They told me to wait in the waiting room while they get a room open, after 5 mins of watching my son go unconscious, I went to the door and knocked on it. When it started to open I burst in to find all of the rooms empty and clean and most of the staff was sitting and looking over the other staff who were playing farmville on the computer. Mercy Hospital in general is where you go to die. If you have an emergency, go to Fredonia. They open the door for you and help you right away. I have been to the ER many times for myself and others and have never had a good visit. They are so discombobulated that I'm not sure how that place runs.

Another incident, my old friend went in and had kidney complications and Empson(the doc who is way far behind on medical schooling and should retire) told me my friend was gonna die. He said "everyone has to die". I told him to go f*** himself and took my buddy to Bartlesville where he recovered fully in 3 days!!! Remember, he wanted to let my friend die. WHAT A FAIL ASS DOCTOR!!

Across the street is just as bad.

I can't help but wonder how long ago were these incidents. Healthcare is always improving and I think Mercy is included in that. If it has been a while I urge you to give them another chance. I know that there management has been working very hard to make sure all patients are satisfied with their care.

I don't think they do it on purpose. Im sure they are very caring. But the fact is for me and everyone I know the wait in the ER has been VERY LONG. and from my observation they were not busy. Like I said I think they mean good they are good doctors Im not complaining just stating a fact the wait is VERY LENGTHY.

Mercy has fired or made all the good nurses leave. there are still some older nurses that work there and know what they ar doing. the thing is you may not get one of them.We sure need some good doctors.

I quit going to that POS hospital years ago. I have all my preventive tests, screenings, lab, x-rays, etc. done in Coffeyville and have done so for many years. The local hospital also charges way more than the other health care facilities in the area. I haven't supported mercy in years. When I used to get invitations to the foundation fundraisers I wrote "REFUSED-RETURN TO SENDER. That other mercy owned hospital in Joplin is absolute appalling. You get zero care. It's even worse than the one in Indy (if you can believe that). Quite frankly, I would support any hospital except for mercy.

People gripe about the wait times, but people don't come to the ER for true EMERGENCIES. ER stands for EMERGENCY ROOM, not Fever, Cough, Sore Throat, Headache, Dental Pain, or other things that should be seen by your local doctor or dentist. People come to the ER cause they dont want to have to pay anything up front. They want to come here and get their pain pills, and pregnancy test and not pay for it. People that come in with TRUE emergencies such as Chest Pain, Fractures, Shortness of Breath, Allergic Reactions, Car Accidents, Falls, Strokes, or other REAL emergencies. This isn't a clinic. This is an EMERGENCY Room and if you went to the ER (EMERGENCY ROOM) for REAL EMERGENCIES there probably wouldn't be a wait time. Its sad when people are in here for bull shit reasons once a week or better. I can count on 1 Hand how many times I have been to the ER in my LIFE and there are people that come more then 5 times in a month. Thats whats wrong with this society as a whole. People feel they are owed free insurance or medical cards, people feel they deserve to sit at home and be lazy and not work, people feel they are entitled to welfare. Go out and get a job and get insurance like the rest of us. Actually pay for a medical bill and see if you find all your little problems ER worthy. An average ER visit is 1000 dollars. An average clinic visit is about 100 or less. Hmmmm let me think about this. Why go to the ER when you can go to a clinic for 1/10th of the cost. OH I know why, because you dont pay for it. The honest hard working americans pay for it not the low life scumbags that sit at home and draw welfare and have 10 kids that we are also paying for. Mercy is a fine hospital and they provide good care. The staff they have are second to none. They work long hours to provide for the sick and injured. They are often asked to do things and deal with people that treat them like shit. Such as the drug addicts that come in and demand stuff, the drunks that are beligerant and cuss and spit at them, or the violent suicidal patients that sometimes hit the staff. Maybe instead of griping about these people you should thank them and tell them Job Well Done.

I could not tell you when I went to any E.R. anywhere-it's been 20 years or more but I did take my child to mercy years ago when he needed stitches and he did not get the stitches that were needed, the "E.R. Doc" REFUSED TO DO IT saying the stitches were not needed. I took my child to another E.R. where the E.R. Doc said yes he does need stitches. The mercy e.r. nurse at that time was so fricking hateful but I had already been warned about her. Yes, this incident was several years ago and me and my family members have never been back. "Thank them" for what? No stitches for my child? "Job well done"? Obviously not. No job done. "Second to none"? Where? At a vet clinic in Indy, but not mercy. Yes, Eric the administrator is a nice guy, a former physical therapist but he has done nothing to change the horrible reputation that hospital has. How many times are they going to change that ugly stupid logo? It seems they change it every couple of years and must spend a fortune on it every time they do. Yes, they run off all the good doctors and nurses they had. Look what they did to poor Dr. Phipps and he was the best doctor Indy ever, ever had. Quite frankly, I can't think of anyone that goes to that place. Everyone I know goes to Coffeyville, Parsons or Bartlesville.

To "Mercy no more"...... Eric does not have any control over the Mercy logo! That is done on a corporate level. All Mercy Hospitals and clinics have changed their logo.
