Bout time someone started complaining about this. Smoking should not be allowed anywhere they serve food. Hate seeing people that work there smoke then handle my families food. Let alone trying to eat while having to breath someones cigarette smoke.
If the city or county officials wont do anything the restaurants should go ahead not allow it. |

|
Until you pay for the staff, pay the taxes, pay rent/utilities or bank payment, pay for the food to serve and cook the food you shouldn't demand anything of the restaurants. They set the rules.
IF you don't want to be around their smoke, don't go there. It is called a free market for a reason, no one is requiring you to go there and spend your money. IF you like their food, pay thier prices and breathe their smoke. YOU have free will. |

1 As for who makes the payments. From what I have learned in life and business it is not the business owner that makes the payments but the customer. No customers, no money to make any of these payments. By this I mean that my family and I are paying for the staff, the taxes, rent/utilities or bank payment by patronizing these businesses. The problem for our community is we are making these payments for businesses in other communities. If you want to smoke that is your right and privilege, but your rights end where my nose begins. When you can control the smoke you emit from violating other's space then I will support your right to light up any where any time. But till then DON'T trample on my families right to breath clean air. |

Simple...the customer controls the amount of money the business takes in. If you don't want to do business there for whatever reason, take your business elsewhere but in doing that remember that the sales tax that these people pay in to the system keep your property taxes down. If the business fails, no sales tax is paid. Don't complain when your taxes are increased to support what the city no longer takes in.
Everything revolves around. If you force the issue, you may be forcing these businesses to make a choice. Stay in or get out. It is their right to make choices on their business, your choice lies in your wallet. |

1 If a business doesn't want my business its their loss. Besides where is the reasoning that if a business is smoke free they will go out of business. Can you smoke in the grocery store, drug store, hospital, court house most other businesses or other public places? I don't see them going out of business because they are smoke free. If a place goes smoke free doesn't mean they will lose money. Cost of property insurance goes down, they no longer have the cost of cleaning residue from the smokers, not to mention if they provide insurance for their employees it also can be reduced. Can you give me one valid reason to allow smoking in any public place. |
||||
|
One valid reason...it is NOT your property, period.
IF you do NOT want your kids around smoke, stay out of that business. It is not owned by the public it IS a private business. Why do your rights as a private citizen prevail over the rights of the business? You have the option to NOT eat there. Your money spent there or not spent there does not give you the right to tell them how to run their business. |

1 Again your right it's not my property but neither is the courthouse, hospital, drugstore, grocery store, Alco, or Dollar Store yet all these places are nonsmoking along with just about everywhere else in town. So if being able to smoke in a business is so vital. Why are all these places and business remaining open. If the business owner cares so little for the health and comfort of their employees and customers. They don't deserve my family as patrons. If a business chooses to allow smoking I don't think they should complain about people not patronizing their establishment. Business owners choice. |

Glad you finally agree.

Doubt if the city will do it, wish the would. It would be nice if the Kansas Legislator's would do as Oklahoma and most other states have done and prohibit smoking in public places.
It is so nice not having to smell like a used ashtray just because my friends and I like to go out and eat. |
||||
|
Heard the county commissioners were looking at the county smoking polices.
Does anyone know what they are thinking about doing? It would be nice if they would start an incentive program to help employees who use tobacco products to quit. At a minimum they need to prohibit all tobacco use on county property including in county vehicles. |

1 Everyone should enjoy going out to eat without having to worry about someone lighitng up and sucking up their air next to them. People should learn to kick their bad habit and not feel its their right to force it on others. I lived in Calif when the non smoking ban went into affect. It was the best thing that ever happened to me and countless others. We were forced to evaluate what we were doing. So I quit. It saddens me to think how I reasoned my cig smoke was my right over someone else right to breathe healthy air. I was wrong. Now that I am smoke free, I realize what rude and arrogant addict I truly was. Smoking is bad, it is a carcinigen that causes cancer. I have watched close friends die from cancer casued from smoking! Fredonia is sending a clear message they are no longer going to tolerate smoking in their community for the protection of healthy lungs. They will save lives plain and simple! Children will no longer be exposed and their youth will be a lot smarter not starting this horrible habit, lead by example of a smoke free enviornment! Hope they have the courage to follow through with this decision! Younger generations will thank them! People in bars need to learn to STEP outside and be considerate of those who are intolerant of smoke! That wont kill ya,, but SMOKING WILL! Go yellowjackets! |

Well said Jane.
Congrats on kicking the habit. |

A request was brought to the city council about the city creating a smoking ordnance. The council stated that the state was working on this and they deferred to them. This is why we need to let Representative Forrest Knox know that we want his support and vote for the Kansas nonsmoker protection act.

The county Commissioners are considering moving the smoking area 25 feet from all the doors of the courthouse. But PLEASE feel free to let them know about your concerns in any of their open meetings. They meet every Monday from 3 to 6 in Room 202 of the courthouse or call 2502. Any support is welcomed!!!

Go somewhere else and eat.
People have just as much right to smoke its yor chocie go yo a smoke free place stop picking on the snokers we have the right to smoke and you have the right not to go where somone is smoking |
||||
|
All you non-smokers need to get a life. If you dont want to patronize a cafe that allows smoking, then go elsewhere and while you are at it, better put up the grill because that smoke is bad for you also. Anytime you go to a place that serves char-broil you are exposed to second hand smoke. So better stop going there also. GEt a life, you should be more worried about the druggies and drunks driving the streets.

Ask some of the small resturant owner in Oklahoma what it has done to their buisness. The only thing they save on is coffee. The smoking ban has reduced their income. When I drive thru OK iI take my lunch so that I don't spend a dime in OK.

Does the county have a policy about smoking in county vehicles? If they do what is it. As for nor smoking on county property I think it's about time they got around to setting a policy.
|

There is a ban on smoking in any county vehicles, but the comm. wont stand their ground and enforce it. Just like the city is passing the buck off to the state on the no smokoing policy. They dont want to piss anyone off. They just want to draw their money and just want to be a good ol' boy and everyones friend.
