Great post, but don't let Bill Standley, George Sharpe, Dan Darnell, or Jason Sandell know that they backed a looser.

Mesa was a great local owned company from 1986-1998 when Larry and Janie Risley created the airline. By 1998 they employed more than 500 Farmington residents. It was after the little twerp ornstien took over the company, moved the HQ to Phoenix and eliminating the 500 local jobs that Mesa became a detriment to the area. This was due to the fact that ornstien hated San Juan county and vowed to not do business here.

typical comments from those who know nothing about the situation. those who think mesa didn't do anything for this community apparently don't think providing jobs and revenue to this community aren't important or isn't anything. let's ask this, what did farmington do to keep mesa? let's see, criticize, gripe, complain, because mesa refused to let the city dictate how the were going to run their business. from a business standpoint it made sense to move headquarters to a big city, mesa wanted to expand, but there were still plenty of job here in farmington. and with them leaving our unemployment rate just went up and the economy went down.

MESA made me afraid to walk down the streets of my own neighborhood. I felt terrorized knowing they were out there-somehwere. Leave us and our children alone.

Its true. Jon ruined Mesa. It kileed him that he couldn't be more than a big fish in a small pond. Now he is a small fish in a small pond and standing at the brink of being broke. Good Job Jon!!!!!

Larry Risley was not a "great local." He was a cheapass sonofabich who took risks everyday to pilots & passengers by cutting corners in every way possible. He promised higher wages to pilots in the 1980s, and never followed through on his statement, but filled his own wallet to the brim. Risley would have his mechanics place bearings on engines that were too worn out and out of-spec to be safely used. But he seemed to know alot about recycling components, and was very lucky he never had anyone killed for doing those stunts. An in-law relative of his can tell you volumes about this shyster.

An in-law relative, huh? I guess it is easy to make accusations against someone when they aren't able to defend themself. You can always find one person who doesn't have anything positive to say about another, and those who do usually ignore a lot. As far as being a cheapass, Larry Risley did a lot of charitable acts that people don't know of because he didn't go around patting himself on the back nor wanted the attention. Before anyone makes a judgment on someone else, I hope they come up with their opinion based on more than one person's comments. I find it odd that any type of relative would talk poorly about a deceased individual, usually when that happens there seems to be a personal issue involved, and their comments are nothing more than a lot of hot air. Maybe this so called relative is like this community, expected a handout from someone else's hard work and didn't get it. Next best thing, talk crap about them. So did you actually know Larry Risley or are your comments solely based on 3rd hand information? You sound like somone who maybe is disgruntled yourself, like an ex-employee. Pretty harsh words and accusations, I hope you have first hand information when making such allegations, and if you do then why didn't you report it when it was happening? All I know is I have talked to many people who actually knew and worked for Larry Risley and a good majority of those people had nothing but admiration and respect for the man. But like I said, you can always find one person who doesn't like another.

I don't know the specifics, I'm just one of the average citizens of Farmington. But I can tell you that, overall, the impression I got from Mesa was "All for one, and everyone for us!"

It seemed like every time I turned around, they were either bailing on us, not paying city taxes, polluting with noise, crashing their airplanes into our police station, or canceling their services and programs.

Like I said, that was just my impression. Maybe they were the best thing that ever happened to Farmington.

Honestly, instead of crying, can't we get some industry here that will treat us with respect? Maybe a tech company or something?

Unfortunatley, your impression was based on what the community told you and not the facts. But you are right only airplanes are noise polluters, yet a noise study proved otherwise. And yep, only airplanes had accidents, never mind the fact that there were no fataliities in that accident, yet everyday another drunk kills someone on the streets, or better yet, the city pays out money to victims when police officers crash into them. It's ironic how many airplanes took off and landed at this airport everyday yet people like you hold onto the one accident. Welcome to real life. And as far as cancelling on us, a company has to do what it needs to do to survive. Regardless of what the media reported and what the city said, I think Mesa new better how to run it's company. Granted it is frustrating when businesses close because it does affect consumers, but are you going to pitch a fit when restaurants close or better yet should we start bashing Western Refinery? Aren't they bailing on us. And finally get off the city tax crap, all the employees that lived here added to the revenue of this city as well as Mesa paid rent and fees just to operate here. And don't forget the fuel used to fly those planes, who do you think benefitted from that. The city is losing far more than what people like you realize and they really didn't do much to keep Mesa here. When a company packs up and leaves, sometimes instead of blaming them, maybe look at this community and ask the question why would they want to leave. If a city wants to keep a business then they need to treat them well. It goes both ways. No different than a landlord, a tenant won't stay if not treated right.

Aw cut thebullshit, Risley(s).
You know damn well he did those things, and you're probably Gary or one of his other crooked siblings attempting to back him up. Guess i wouldn't blame you, because most bent families would back up their brother or sister for child rape or murder, no matter the severity. No go back and think about what Larry has actually done to his former employees, and come back to report truth.

All statements made by 3rd world, point to a biased operative who is most likely a family member or cheating lover. You go Jeff!

Oh, now it's the whole family. Thanks for proving me right. And, no, I am not a Risley, and I do know what he did for his former employees. I don't know that he did anything, but if you did, shame on you for not doing something about it. Fact is though you don't know anything about anything, that's easy to determine based on your comment. You provide nothing of substance just empty accusations.

So, disgruntled or the so called in-law, which one are you? Maybe both.

Why does this comment not surprise me? Typical reaction from someone who knows nothing about a situation so instead resort to adolescent behavior. And no, I am not Gary, you must not really know anything about the family to think he would be wasting his time responding to soemone like you. But I am looking forward to your next juvenile response. You have your work cut out for you to top blow me.

Yes, just as i thought. I'm very pleased to see you conceded and gave the truth in front of the reading public. Oh, may i hand you a kleenex for some of that mess on your face?

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Pisces

Someone is in a very boisterous mood today, and you may want to make yourself scarce after a short spell in their company. Their idea of a joke may be your idea of extreme rudeness, or they could take pleasure in being argumentative just for the sake of it. Don't let this person wind you up or you'll go off pop through sheer tension.
