Very simple, Glen Hayes: This is a SAFETY issue, which has become more urgent to enforce now that this area has so many violent criminals on the streets, willing to ambush police officers. I lost my police officer husband over twenty years ago in another town, to a shooter who ambushed him from a darkened vehicle on a routine traffic stop. There were not nearly so many criminals on the streets back then. With William Gann & other recent cases of armed felons refusing to comply with simple lawful police orders to lay down their weapons & keep hands in sight, perhaps even you can grasp that we will certainly lose more officers if they can't see into the vehicles they stop. Would you mind giving up your happy trips smoking weed or whatever you want to do behind really black tinting to save an officer's life? Or is really dark tint just too comfy for you to admit this ordinance needs to be enforced? I know the city's ensuring all its vehicles comply with the tinting ordinance. Please! Step up & support sensible safety measures.

Law enforcement vehicles are exempt from the ordinance.

Very well put. You speak for me as well. Thank you.

I've owned several vehichles over the years and had the windows tinted on all. I went to several different shops in Farmington and when I asked for the darker tint I was told by every shop that 20% was legal and that if I wanted darker, it was at my own risk because it was illegal. I think the shops were aware, but didn't care because they want the $$$$

Maybe you should get a clue. It is not the windshield that the Police are targeting. They are looking for the tint on the side windows. Tint below the AS1 line on the windshield is illegal and always has been, for that matter anything on the front windshield below the AS1 line is illegal. If you have a problem with the tint on the Local Police cars why dont you go to the Department or City Council and request it to be fixed? Let me give you a little hint, they are legal. Anyone who would make a press release like this would be crazy to allow their own vehicles to be against the law (unless they are exempt which I doubt). |
||||
Hey Idiots, did you even read what Glen wrote? He says nothing about the windshield...that was just the title that the paper gave his letter...I think you should change your name to just "Idiot"... |
||||

I doubt that a police officer would feel uncomfortible aproaching another police vehicle if he/she couldn't see the other officer inside.
I have never seen a PD vehicle (marked) that I could not clearly see who was driving. No need for tint on Glen's vehicle, his head is so far up his AS_S he can't see the sun. |
||||
They are not exempt and they are all within the legal 20% or more...... I think people should quit their crying. |
||||

The truth is that most of the tint shops evolved as support services for the meth industry, hiding those who were on the prowl.

Truth be known, as far as I'm concerned blacked out windows makes your vehicle look "80's, Miami Vice" Don Johnson loving, wanna be. And, if people were honest, it's harder to see out of the vehicle at night and sometimes during the day. Let it go people, give up the colored tee shirts and white suit jackets. It was corny then and even more so now.

I want to comment about the window tint enforcment and the people who do not fully understand the benefits of having it.
First, there are numerous patrol cars out on the street with windows darker than 20%. I have recorded several patrol numbers to prove it. I think they use it as a way to keep speeders from seeing them using radar and so they can effectively see the electronics in the vehicle. As for the criminals and meth heads. They will ambush an officer or smoke dope with tinted windows on a car or not. They are low lifes and scums of the earth. If law enforcement does its job, these scum bags will not be roaming the streets and the people who use darker windows for a purpose, will not have to suffer. Lastly, I have and will continue to have vehicles with tinted windows. It reduces heat in the interior, helps keep the glass intact in the event of an accident, makes a vehicle look good, and also enables workers who use a laptop in their vehicle to see it and work effectively. I am a legal citizen and have dark tinted windows. I have nothing to hide or have no intention of it. I use it to keep my vehicle looking good and keep it protected as well as everyone who rides with me. If I am pulled over by law enforcment, I make it a point to roll all my windows down so the officer has a clear view of everyone and everything in the cab. Rather than complain about something, we should all be pro-active to find common ground that is good for the citizens, tint shops and law enforcement. Maybe if |

Just this morning a C S O vehicle drove by me and I could not see the driver at all due to the dark tint. Maybe you should take YOUR head out and actually look before you start bad mouthing others!! |

Hey, how about you check out the news over the past few years & see how many felons are here now, attracted by lax prosecution & sentencing which are operating in defiance of the efforts of the arresting officers. The police are not going to ambush you. You can help protect them from ambush by cowards if you support this ordinance. 20 percent is legal & fine for shade in you car. If you get crazed about not being legally able to own darker tint just because officers such as my husband who was shot to death by an ambusher in a darkened car on a routine traffic stop might be saved that way--just how dependent are you on your drugs that you can't make it down the road without using & therefore demand to be hidden by dark tint? |
||||
You know it all. However, O desperate to be not only shaded but HIDDEN BY TINT darker than legal levels: the felons will usually NOT ambush police if the officers see what they're doing in their vehicles--they know the officer will shoot effectively back at them if he sees them. Look at the first post in this line. It is a true story. My husband was a marksman who had the army medals to prove that, & even once the coward shot him in the chest w/ a high-powered rifle, he was able to shoot the felon in the foot. When you say cops will be ambushed no matter what & tint doesn't make a diff, you show yourself underinformed. The thug who killed my husband tried the same thing years later on a cop who COULD see into his car as he scrambled to shoot the policeman on yet another routine traffic stop. I am happy to say that in these fair fight conditions, the officer blew the guy's head off. |

I would most certainly like to know what species of fish are in the fishbowl before sticking my hand in it.

Maybe you should learn to read. I never said I didn't support the ordinance. I said I saw a CSO vehicle with dark tint. If they are going to enforce the law they should abide by it. Dumb arse. My windows are legal and I don't need your drugs to hide behind. Frickin azzhole. Sorry for your supposed loss but you need to chill out and actually read the posts instead of reading into them jack azz. |

I only wish I had my drivers window tinted when I was doing a lot of traveling. The NM sun is brutal and I had 2 surgeries to remove a malignant squamus cell tumor from the left side of my neck which the sun always hit. I use a suction cup pull down shade and you can hardly see thru it either, so does that violate tinting laws since it is not a tinted window, but still does not allow visual thru the drivers window ?.

BS is right, law enforcement, again, but more slowly "Law enforcement", no one should be above the law.

The Farmington Police Department and the government of Farmington is out of control. The are low on cash so they stop whomever for whatever dumbass reason they can conjure. I am a young educated professional who does not respect what the police force has become. They cultivate disrespect and distrust, because they treat citizens like criminals. Mark my words this will one day indeed bite them in the ass.

Maybe they're having a beer while patrolling around town?
