Texas neighbors keep eye on sect

Jimmy Doyle, the local justice of the peace, circled his Piper Cherokee plane over the fast-sprouting minicity where polygamist prophet Warren Jeffs, one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, may be hiding.

Carolyn Jessop thought that maybe they would have a suicide pact and it would be another Jim Jones/Waco/Manson murder helter skelter.
The only thing missing is the drugs?

Warren Jeffs and his shenanigans and influence are the biggest source of these people's troubles. It's good that he is in jail.

These people who conducted surveillance of the ranch were out of line. You can bet that they did not have a warrant to take those pictures, and the nosy old goat postmaster had no business looking with binoculars. But I understand what it was all about. They had suspicions and wanted to see if there was anything they could see to justify getting a warrant to go in. I'm sure these people were the biggest tax payers in the county, or at least one of the biggest. And all that construction would require building permits and building inspectors to come inspect the work as each step was done. So, although they were private people, which they have every right to be, they apparently let who they were required to come on the ranch to conduct their business.I think it would be safe to assume the undercover informant the sheriff used was one of those building inspectors. They had access to the property more than any other outsider and they still could not get a warrant. That says a whole lot, in my estimation.

I am not interested in snooping on someone else's property, and I sure as heck don't want someone doing it to me.

I don't know what they would have a problem with someone flying over their house. They fly over mine all the time. You can even drive within a few feet of my front door. How do I know if you would take pictures when you fly over? What's the harm?
We are all on google maps, and a lot more places.
I'm sure you understand curiosity of people. These people didn't live like the rest of society so it raised his curiosity.
No big deal. He didn't break any laws. No harm done.
Right?

To you it's right, to me it's wrong. Flying over someone's property is one thing, but snooping is a whole other thing. He was not out for a leisurely pleasure flight, he was flying over specifically to see what he could see.He was trying to see if he could find anything wrong, not taking pictures of wildlife or whatever for his photo album.I don't know for sure, but I would think that if he was doing it to get evidence of some sort of crime, that he would be required to have a warrant, especially if he planned to use the pictures in any sort of criminal prosecution.

I'm sorry that you can be so carefree about someone snooping on your property. I myself, do not feel that way. People have privacy and they should be able to enjoy it. You are right, their are probably many ways we are under surveillance and don't even know it. To me, that is a very chilling thought.

I don't know whether he broke any laws in doing what he did or not.But just the whole idea of someone flying over someones property and taking pictures for disingenuous purposes stinks.

They have "no fly" zones. I guess the ranch isn't one of them.
To me flying over or driving by is no different.
I have driven past houses and looked at them, I guess that's nosey too, but we all do it.

I don't think it would be very easy to see the ranch just by driving by, it's too big.The man flew over for a reason, to get a good view. Yes, we all look at places when we drive by, it's just natural. But as I said, he was flying over specifically to see what he could see, out of suspicion. That's not the same as just flying over inadvertently or driving by and just looking at someone's house just because it is in your field of vision and it happens to catch your eye.I would not classify that as nosy. But if you are staring and seeing what you can see to start trouble or getting into your neighbors business, it's way different.

I'm just speaking of being nosy in general. There are people who don't like their neighbors and will do what they can to stir up trouble the first chance they get.Out of spite. That stinks.

Him flying over the property to see what he could see was an example of someone who did it because he was suspicious and wanted to see if he could see anything. He was the Justice of the Peace, so you know he was friends with the Sheriff. If he had seen anything incriminating, he would have reported it.Evidently he didn't, because it took the hoax phone call to be able to get the warrant. As it was, he took the pictures to show what was there and the layout. That is nosy, in my book, as well as underhanded. It was none of his business what was there, but he was suspicious and could not see it any other way, so that's how he did it.And then the nosy postmaster with the binoculars? It doesn't sound lawful to me, but I could be wrong on that. But if the pics would be used for criminal investigation, then that could make it unlawful, I would think.Don't know for sure, but I'd like to find out.But I don't like the sound of it, nonetheless.People are entitled to their privacy on private property.

this is interesting. Someone who cares are you saying the world should turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to everything or we appear to be nosey.

Its a good thing those photos are being taken that way people can see whats going on. IF they are building a mini city the ramifications are huge. DO you want these people in power. If they cant hide from the planes etc then they are less likely to put all 10,000 flds there all with voting power. Jeffs if you listen once refered to himself as President Jeffs. He really sees himself in the White house. Is that what people want?? good on the guy for taking the pics, brilliant that Flora Jessop and Carolyn Jessop keep fighting the fight.
Lets not confuse the issue here they are on American ground breaking American Law. If i was an American i would be annoyed at the fact that they think the laws dont apply to them under religious grouds. They do.
