"This new roadway will be a gateway to greater economic development for this region and a better tomorrow for all of southeastern Ohio."

....and more traffic jams in the Lancaster/Carroll/Canal Winchester/Groveport area.

Yeah! on the bypass around Nelsonville. It was promised to us over 50 years ago. The state is finally coming through.

Do you have a clue what you are talking about? Lancaster bypass is complete. 33 has been reconfigured nearer to Columbus. Traveling 33 is much easier now than it has been since I have been driving - 25+ years.

I have traveled back and forth between Parkersburg, WV and Columbus for more than 25 years also. The Lancaster bypass was great and made me look forward to Nelsonville bypass even more. Can't wait!!!

Incorrect. 33 sucks (at times) from about Ohio 104 through Caroll. The stoplights at Caroll and Canal Winchester and the turns allowed onto Pickerington Road are a big bottleneck that also need to be fixed.

Furthermore, much of the Athens to Pomeroy leg is graded as a four-lane highway, but only two lanes are paved. It will be another 50 years before this highway is done.

The Lancaster by-pass as well as U.S. 35 East of Chillicothe are also both pretty stretches of roadway.

With government health care coming, you can expect the same prompt service.

Neither have anything to do with the bypasses of Lancaster or Nelsonville.

Which also has nothing to do with the bypass.

A viable passenger rail system would be great for this state. Ohio and the midwest used to have an incredible system that we let the automobile industry undermine. I do not get all the resistance to rail travel out there. For the average Ohian automobile expenses suck up over 20% of annual income. Factor in all the social costs and dependency on oil from countries who hate us and cars are not a good deal.

That's so the OSHP can write tickets. Little to no traffic on that stetch but you'll always find a trooper "protecting" the roads.

As for 33 closer to Columbus, ODOT has plans to remove many of the remaining at grade intersections (lights) with grade separated interchanges bringing Route 33 into a near interstate standard between Columbus and south of Lancaster. South of lancaster some signals will remain, such as in Sugar Grove

What about the dude that does chainsaw sculptures as you enter town from the north?

Who is going to provide for him if the bypass steals all his potential customers?

Only 4 more years to tap the folks rolling through for sales!

What the hXXX are you talking about. The story is about the 33 bypass and you bring up tickets getting written. Sounds like to me you must have been a recent recepient of a blue copy. Come on buddy, get a life!

Say what, say what? Sorry I was responding to someone else's comments about that stretch south of Athens. With my line of work, I drive about 35,000 miles a year. I haven't had a speeding ticket since 1998. Get a life? I don't think my post warrented a personal attack, but whatever. I won't take the bait, sir!

I don't know about the guy with the chainsaw sculptures...he can move to an exit ramp or something. I'll be glad when the bypass is finished. I'm tired of having to spend almost 2 hours to get to Columbus, one way. At one point, I counted a total of 33 traffic lights between my home and my place of employment in Columbus. Yes, that's right. I had been working in Columbus because no industry or anything else will come to Athens because of the lack of good highways. And you can't make a living on part time minimum wage jobs. Maybe now our elected officials will see that there is life beyong the 270 outerbelt.

I agree. Many small towns had excellent train service that could get you almost anywhere you wanted to go. GM wanted to build and sell busses so they invested in and ran into the ground every rail service they could get their hands on. Thus creating a market for GM busses. I'm sure many "upstanding" public servants made out financially from these deals also.
