What he did was base cruelty to the draft horses. Hauling a 7700 pound vehicle for extended distances on asphalt is not what those horses are bred to do. And to put them through the daily terror of hauling on highways, with big-rigs blowing past, is inexcusable. Skelding got what was coming to him. I feel very sad for the horses that met a horrible death, and equally sad for the ones that survived but went through such an experience (being in harness when a big-rig smashed into their harnessmates and killed them... imagine that). I have no sympathy for Skelding.

What a bone-head. I guess he got his 15 minutes of fame. People like this guy should be locked up and given large doses of 'happy meds'.

Granted, the idea was a stupid one, but horses were used all of the time before cars were invented to pull wagons, this isn't some sick perverse abuse scheme.

Awww. So you have NO sympathy for Skelding. You can all go back to living your sad safe little lives in front of your TV's and your computers doing all the things that sad safe little people do when they get a chance to judge other people who live life they way they want. Your comments compound the tragedy.

Stupid maybe, tragedy? not even close. Knuckleheads like you and the doofus in the story give everyone a reason to laugh. At least us normal people are amused. You appear to be from the LEFT coast and everybody knows thats the land of fruits and nuts.

They were never used to pull an RV down the road. Must be nice to be a loser with no life and be able to take off all this time with no pay. I wonder if his kids are being supported? I would guess not.

So anyway....Get a life you Moron!!!

Hope the guy is okay. How sad. He should pick a route of smaller roads, but unfortunately big rigs are EVERYWHERE nowadays.

Don't blame the 18 wheeler, horses don't belong on the highway. Most people fail to realize that the interstate highway system was conceived and built for interstate commerce, not joyriders. Consider that virtually everything we have is transported by trunk, not magic or molecular transporters.

Sounds like a case of 18 wheelers hogging both lanes on a 2 way highway.
Wouldn't have helped much to be in a car, when cresting a hill and facing those monster trucks.
I agree, his vehicle was crazy, but passing a vehicle on the crest of a hill is truly insane, suicidal behavior.
Hope the guy recovers well.

Saying that he should try to take the backroads is not blaming the 18 wheeler. However, trucks are everywhere now - backroads included, especially in areas they are trying to bypass scales etc.

I was a four lane highway. 2 in one direction and 2 in the other. There is nothing illegal passing on the crest of a hill when both lanes are moving in the same direction. Obviously when cresting the hill coming up on a object moving at least 5-6 time slower than you things like this will happen.

As someone else stated he should have figured his routing to remain on secondary/back roads. I know as a truck driver myself. The best traveling experience is OFF the interstate.

Interstates are mainly for rookie driver that are afraid to get lost. Try using the far off route and discover a new world. But unfortunately we are all in such a big hurry we are afraid to leave the speedway.

It was a 2 lane road. 2 total, one in each direction. The crest of a hill was not involved. The road was straight and basically level. It was broad daylight, almost noon. Two trucks were driving nose to tail down the road. They were both from the SAME company. The first truck pulled out to pass (in the oppossing traffic lane) and the second truck was left looking at the back of the slow-moving rig, and slammed into it. Now just imagine if that was a legally stopped school bus discharging kids. Would you still say the truck did nothing wrong?

He sure is living his American Dream......of Not having to work for a living. For me I guess I could be a little jealous, but mostly mad. I never have accepted government "cheese" or any type of unemployment so I can't comprehend of NOT having to go to work

As stated by "TonyFromAbbottst own" - Hwy 45 if a 2-lane highway going both ways and remains that way in/near Kemper County and the counties Kemper lies between... Lauderdale County and Noxubee County. My husband is from Kemper County and we visit there every year.

It sadden me to hear of this inopportune incidence. My thoughts & prayers goes out to this gentleman.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Gemini

Mercury will backtrack through your finances over the next few weeks, which isn't a very seasonal thought if you're already well aware that you've overspent this month. Be prepared to do some juggling or to seek expert advice if you're worried about how you're going to cope. You may be kept busy handling inheritance, tax or insurance matters, preparing investment analysis, and allocating funds for the repayment or collection of debts.
