we live in southern Missouri and Im fed up with living in tornado alley and living on the new madrid fault line :( Also, a lot of flooding etc....
I am just curious if anyone knows what the pay for LPN is in different areas in the U.P? I have an 8 year old daughter so the crime rate, school, healthcare is important. Any extracurricular things that go on like tumbling, softballl, gymnastics, etc?

I was born and raised at, "The Lake." AND, you should know Miss Sara...I ain't referring to, "Superior." :)
I attended law school in Michigan which allowed me to spend time in the, "U.P." MANY similarities exist between the wonderful people in the Ozarks and residents of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Although you will be foregoing: the New Madrid Fault, weekly meth busts and a (ever present) tornado threat...get ready for SNOW that is measured in FEET, not inches...AND easily remains through April. However, on the plus side, I did not meet one resident who air conditioned their home. MAYBE a window unit...but NEVER central air!
As I stated, "U.P.ers" are WONDERFUL! I was NEVER treated as an, "outsider" --except, they did make fun of my (apparent) accent! Marquette has a cool art scene. I bought some VERY COOL pieces from the art community.
Having spent time in both areas...If you feel the need to relocate with your daughter...I whole-heartily give a, "Seal of Approval" to Marquette.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!

Thank you for your reply. The snow was the only drawback i noticed, but compared to what we deal with here it sounds like a blessing. No mosquitos carrying you off when you walk outside lol. No bipolar weather as we call it here. We were looking into springfield and osage beach area in missouri and that is still possible. I want my daughter to grow up where she can have plenty of chances and things to keep her occupied in a healthy way. She wants to go to hawaii for college and become a marine biology and work for sea world or a dolphin rescue... Its a thought at the back of my head.. Nursing is just so underpaid that i hate thinking about not being able to enjoy things and not worry about bills ugh..
