Great! Another warehouse that pays their workers horrible wages and will likely be nonunion. Good job PA....these are reasons why I'll be leaving after graduating from college.

Don't let the door hit your a$$ on the way out, John. 118 jobs are more than we have now.

Hollow Road used to be a beautiful country road. The tract used for this monstrosity was once farmed. I feel sorry for the people who live on Hollow Road who once had a view of farm land and now have to look at the back of that warehouse.

Great job, Rendell. $500k for a crummy 118 jobs. I would rather see the money go to small business owners. Could probably help more people and provide more jobs that way.

"The industry's growth has fostered complaints. Critics maintain warehouses take up space and generate truck traffic without creating many good-paying jobs."

I'd like to know how many tax abatements these companies get from state and local gov'ts as an additional incentive. Increased traffic tie-ups, low paying jobs, and no tax contributions for schools, police, etc. for ten years. Why aren't they making a greater effort to attract higher paying manufacturing companies into the state. I'm tired of hearing about how the Lehigh Valley is becoming the storage unit for the rest of the east coast. These massive facilties are simply stopping points for products that are manufactured somewhere else (mostly overseas) and moving on to somewhere else. I don't consider this enlightened economic development.

Ruadhri, good points. Pennsylvania has be obscessed with warehouses for about 30 years. For some reason, instead of trying to bring in higher paying white colllar jobs, they want to bring in low paying warehouse jobs.

I agree that we need a mix of jobs in PA but new employment is heavily skewed in favor of warehouses. Also, the state mistakenly has given these corporations heavy subsidies and tax abatements. We are in a good location geographically, we don't have to subsidize these companies. They can't afford to buy land in New Jersey or New York and they certainly are not going to build 400 miles away in Ohio. PA has always been short sighted when it came to enticing industry.

Glad to see it. Maybe now I'll get my parts for my BMW quicker with a local warehouse.

I don't undertand why there is such a negative reaction here, 118 new jobs is 118 new jobs. Give me a break people.

Is that with or without benefits??? Good paying jobs does not only entail wages... good paying jobs should support the areas standard of living. Standard of living equals wages and benefits, and it does not have to be a union workforce to accomplish this.

My reaction is not negative to the creation of new jobs, Ken. It is negative to the types of industries that seem to be getting benefits lately from all the wooing done by the local Economic Development Corporations and state entities like the Governor's Action Team.

"The 870,000-square-foot facility, which can be expanded to 1.4 million square feet, will employ 118 people within the next three years, according to the a news release from Gov. Ed Rendell."

Think of how many potential jobs would be created if this company built a manufacturing plant the same size...probably in the thousands. Jobs would probably pay better and this would actually contribute to expanding the tax base rather than selling it off for ten years through abatements.

There are also other auto warehouses in the area. I know a few of the men that work there( I believe it is KIA) and they like their jobs. They don't have to contribute anything to their medical care coverage and it also covers their family. They also get yearly raises. No they aren't making $20 an hr. but they aren't making minimum either.

OOOH 118 jobs....WOW, I can't believe it. The Lehigh Valley is going to change so drastically on 118 jobs with their unemployment rate. The only good move in this area was Olympus coming to the area because they offer jobs that I can get something with my degree in college. THIS AREA IS A SLEEPING COMMUNITY. Everyone lives in this area for one reason, because it's close to NYC and Philly. Most of the people who live in the LV don't work here. So what the heck is 118 jobs? My mom works in an office at one of thes crummy warehouses and sees people coming in an our of the warehouse because they don't pay enough. My thought on paying low wages is, "You get what you pay for." I can put my college education on the fact that this warehouse will not pay anyone over $10 and possibly $13 for the forklift drivers. I'm making $20 an hr in NJ doing something that would be $8 per hr in LV. Think a little people before you open your mouths.
