I had a problem with Webster - even though I paid my auto tax bill as soon as I got it- I was sent a notice that I was deliquent. I brought a copy of my tax bill- stamped by the bank from a month before- along with my canceled check - to the tax collector's office where I was told I would need to go back to the bank to get it straightened out.

A real waste of time.

I always went to the Tax collector to pay after that wonderful experience. They should not be allowed to hndle anything for the city with such poor service.

Webster is a HORRIBLE bank. I closed out all my accounts with Them after "they" lost my check after I had deposited most of it into my account. "They" called me...never stating that there was a serious problem...and asked if I had taken the check by mistake. I said the check was in their hands and that I had only the $200.00 which I had a transaction slip for. Next I find out that they had withdrawn the entire amount of the check out of my account. WEBSTER BANK IS HORRIBLE!!!

Banks are no longer what they used to be remember when a banker was a respected person in the community that hepled and offered guidance to customers...Now banks are just fee driven and scheme how long they can hold on to money to collect interest. Bad banking needs fees to show profit I think Grandma was right stuff the mattress.....

I would look into TD Bank (merged entity with Commerce Bank) before Peoples United Bank. TD Bank's credentials are significantly stronger than PUB with AAA credit ratings and JD Powers service awards for three consecutive years. Also, the Bank has the expertise to handle Town bonding requirements. At least put the question to the proper boards before jumping.

Per the article the town already uses TD Bank.

It's sympathy not "symptathy." Believe or not some people don't trust USPS to deliver their important payments. It seems that by taking the time to drive or otherwise locomote to a local bank branch, or town hall would somehow be the not lazy way of paying one's taxes. Just an opinion. Happy New Year.

What branch does the city deposit their funds? The Huntington Branch is the BEST.

well i love webster nothing but great service, theyre always polite and willing to help out.i had peoples bank and they were the worst, always grumpy and didnt care about their customers.i had an issue years ago with aol, they kept taking money out of my credit card account long after i dropped them, peoples didnt help at all,i told them i wanted to close my cc account so aol couldnt keep charging my cc. they told me i had to file complaints etc, the manager said theres alot of people having the same problem they(peoples)acted like they didnt want to be bothered.it took me getting an attorney before peoples stepped up and took action, its funny that with all the dirty crap going on with the city of shelton they have the nerve to complain about anything.

Why does another bank have to be chosen at all? I had problems with Peoples Bank and closed my account there. I don't trust Peoples Bank. I only trust going to the town hall on a day off from work to pay my taxes directly.

Banks for a very long time are not customer friendly. Join the credit union. They care more about the average person.

Why did it take an official having a problem before the town looked into what has clearly been a problem since at least 2006?

all banks suck these days, but webster is awful. we closed out our accounts there years ago. if you want to be treated like crap, webster's the way to go. shelton's got bigger problems than this, maybe Anglace is looking for a distraction, but he's still right about the bank!

Once I had a deposit bounce on me, causing me to bounce several checks. Webster charged me $30 for each check that bounced PLUS $5 each day my account was overdrawn, which was more than a week before I received any notification. That should be illegal. Needless to say I closed the account and would NEVER use them again. They were so snotty about it, like tough luck sucker. But I had the last laugh. I sold an investment house shortly after that and deposited $330,000 cash into my NEW bank!

I have always paid my taxes at Webster Bank in Shelton and I have had no problem! The tax collector should find something else to complain about! They're not the most organized!

Well, I won't be dealing with webster Bank any longer. Not since they turned all my transaction records over to the feds.

As for paying taxes, another convenient location thats open 24/7 is located on David Drive. Cash only- no checks.
