of all the things one could do to get the support of nsu football renewed, our new football coach pulls the scholarships from two young soon to be juniors. yes, he only pulled two scholarships. however, the only two guys from natchitoches, were the ones he canned. he stated that they were not good enough and those scholarships were needed for other guys from out of town who were better ball players. i can understand his need to make a winning football program. what is unacceptable is the fact that you ask one to come play ball for you, and then after two years, say they are not good enough. how could he know that? they have to be given a chance. that may be how you win games, but that is not how you conduct buisness. it's just wrong, typical politics. i thought things were gonna improve, but clearly i was wrong.

"That may be how you win games, but that is not how you conduct business."

Sorry, jay, but winning football games IS the business of college coaches. If the two new guys are better performers than the two who lost their scholarships, this WAS a good business decision.

I agree to a certain extent. The Demons have not been putting people in the seats because they are winning, I think if you are not going to win then maybe you should put a couple of local athletes on the field to fill some seats(buy tickets) that's good business. If you can win 8 or 9 games a year then people will come no matter who is on the field.

Maybe if the two that lost the scholarships had worked harder they may have kept them.

If one doesn't make the grades on an academic scholarship it goes to someone more worthy. Athletics or academics makes no difference, you have to perform.

the grades were made by the two atheletes. in the grand scheme of things, it is not just about winning football games. it is also about education that a sound institution should provide. that being said, morals and ethics should apply, and and should be shown by example from those in leadership positions. whatever happened to the coaches remarks that no kid would be rejected, and anyone was free to join his team. the bottom line is that they didn't live up to their end of deal. i do not care what any of you have to say about this. i know first hand of the events that transpired in regard to this situation. at the end of the day, you don't win on by what the scoreboard says. you win by the way you have conducted yourself. it's far better to loose by 100 points, than to not keep your word.

Jay, grow up! This is college athletics, it doesn't matter that mommy and daddy own a local company to the coach. He was hired to win games, plain and simple. Stoker tried to play the game of pleasing mommies and daddies and look at where it got him.

Absolutely correct. Peveto must do whatever it takes to put the best 11 men on the field. Alot of players show good potential coming out of high school but simply can't cut it at the college level. Let this be a learning experience for them. Life will only get tougher. These young men should get up, dust themselves off and move on with their lives. Better yet, prove the coach wrong. They can always win their scholarships back for next year.

Pev is busting his butt to get the best players on the field. Stoker got fired because he had to many that couldn't get it done and didn't get it done in the community. Locals are fine, but winning is what get people to the games and Pev has done a great job of community relations. He is the best we have ever had at NSU.

Ok so besides politics, what is right or wrong, or how the coach handled the situation, lets think of these two young men's privacy and regardless if you mentioned names, everyone knows who you are talking about and i dont really think that this is a situation that needs to be discussed because who wants it broadcast all over the topix that you weren't good enough and you were the only one's cut. I personally disagree witht he situation and how the cuts were handled but dont think that this needs to be discussed for the sake of the emotional stress that this has caused in itself. and just remember.....what goes around comes around and they will get it.

The coach has a job and is doing his job to the best of his ability. That is what he was hired for so shut up. So the parents got offended....maybe their kids were not hacking it, not doing their part for the team. I heard the story that they weren't. If this is true.....good riddance....if not, either way the coach calls the shots.

Long-time season ticket holder here. Heard from good source there were more than just two local players who were involved AND they were not cut from the team. They can still be a part of the team. Tough job for a new coach to come in and have to evaluate what was left for him. Must be extra tough when having to deal with local players who from what I know are good young men from good families. Still it has to be the coach's call and for anyone to jump on him after just four months is ridiculous....as is the comment "what goes around comes around and they will get it." Please.

I agree with everything you are saying (gopurple). As for the goes around .... comment, I was not speaking of anything going or coming back around to the coaches by any means. I was speaking of gossip and the complete negativity over the situation in general. Yes this is obviously tough but in no way did i mean to "bash" the coaches nor accuse them for a negative way handling the situation, just how the situation was handles afterwards and i wasnt referring to the coaches. I really hope that everything works out for the best and really dont want these guys to have to deal with anything else that isnt necessary over this. I personally am a big fan of NSU sports and do want the best for the team and school.

Ok guys, college players lose their scholarships every year, it is part of the game. When you have new coaches coming in, they generally want their type of guys and some just don't fit their scheme. Peveto was hired to make NSU football a consistent winning program. I say we let him do his job and judge him in a few years. Let's not judge on who he made happy or mad but by wins and losses.

To Jay: Would you rather the coach recruit all local players and get their tails beat every game? Yeah, I'm sure a huge crowd would come out every week for that.

Both of the players that got cut were 2nd stringers in the spring and they worked there ass off to get there. So whoever said they needed to try harder needs just shut up.

May all be moot if our governor (Where's Waldo) gets his way. With a 219 million cut to higher ed, more than a couple of players will lose their scholarships.
