Several did food and gifts. They also did caroling, Christmas musical specials, Christmas Eve services, visited with the shut ins and held banquets for the less fortunate.

I have been looking for help for the longest time now. My husband got his hours cut to part time until after the New Year and I am physically disabled, and we have had many times where we didn't know what we'd eat lately. Natchitoches has very few resources, and the ones we found wouldn 't serve us for various reasons. At less than $900 a month for two people with our bills most months totaling more than that, it seems we would qualify. We couldn't make it to family for Christmas and my husband was really too sick to travel, so we didn't have Christmas dinner this year. Maybe we just can't find the help, but when we asked our local churches in Provencal, we were denied help because we weren't members of any particular congregation. You'd think that the whole point of helping is to help those in NEED, not just the people in your own church. I know that when I have the means, I give to those I can who I know need help. And having a food bank all the way in Alexandria doesn't help us here, who can drive all that way and pay for gas if you obviously can't afford to eat?
Please ya'll, help your neighbors! People are having a hard time right now and it's getting worse.

How do you afford Internet access? And I don't believe there's a church in Provencal that would deny helping someone really in need. I know several churches in Provencal helped many families in need with food, clothing and Christmas presents his year. People are good hearted and generous when it comes to helping people in small communities. I do think that people who ask for help should a least attend services as a way to say thank you.

Do you receive assistance with food? La purchase card?

We do not qualify for food assistance, we have no children and we make $13 over the limit for our income per the averaged out calculations. As for attending services, we do attend. As for you "not believing" we wouldn't receive help, you can believe it or not but it's the truth. I access the internet on my phone, which is a necessity to have living out in the middle of nowhere and having your husband work nights. I don't really care if no one believes what I stated, but it's the God's honest truth. There is no help out here unless you know someone who has been here their entire lives. People don't help strangers, and what's the point of calling yourselves Christians if you can't help everyone who has true need?

Sorry but data plans are very expensive, if you can afford that you can afford food. It's called priorities. Your entire story doesn't hold water. Anyone with an income of $900 would qualify for food assistance. What type of disability do you suffer from? Mental? Physical?

Your email address would imply that you're a fan of True Blood, correct? Sounds like you're living better than most! I cannot afford HBO or a data Plan on my cell phone, and I could really use that as a college student. Now stop feeling sorry for yourself and lying about GOOD people and feet a job!

Wow. You're really judgmental, and that's exactly the kind of thing I am talking about. My husband has a job which got cut to part time, I already stated that I am DISABLED. I have an all-inclusive phone plan for less than $50 a month which my mother pays for so I can stay in touch with my daughter who is in college. How very kind of you to judge others and try to find any little reason to belittle someone in need. Would I be humiliating myself and asking if I didn't need help? Please, judge yourself, God is MY judge. If this is the kind of thing I am going to hear, never mind...

Sorry but I don't believe you asked for help and were denied by a church. I think your looking for sympathy and looking or someone to scam.

You call it being judgmental, I call it being realistic.

Ok riley, I call it judgemental. I hope like hell you're not in charge of the soup kitchen when I get down on my luck. You would deny everybody in need and call them liars. I pray you never get in the situation that you don't know where your next meal will come from. I've been there and no,I don't want sympathy, I wanted help, but soup nazis like you that can't relate make it difficult. Just saying.

Thank ya'll for understanding! I was so down yesterday about all of this I didn't know what to do. I appreciate someone being able to relate. The last thing someone needs when they are struggling is to be kicked when you are down.
