Now here is a GREAT idea.

This was written by a 21 yr old female who gets it. It's her future she's worried about and this is how she feels about the social welfare big government state that she's being forced to live in! These solutions are just common sense in her opinion.

This was in the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco , TX , Nov 18, 2011

PUT ME IN CHARGE ...

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks?

You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."

Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

AND while you are on government subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a government welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

What about those on a disability "welfare" program such as SSI or those elderly persons who are in nursing homes who are on that "welfare" program called Medicaid? I guess anyone receiving SSI because they are blind or deaf want to be blind or deaf. And we all know most old folks can't wait to get into a nursing home. I guess there is a cut off date. They die.

This is the post that I responded to. Since there is no such program, Federal, State, or local, actually called “welfare” I have to assume you are you using the term to identify all those programs which are based on income, resources and need. There are many. If you are actually referring to only certain programs, then you need to refer to them by their correct name. Medicaid which pays for nursing homes and others in medical need who qualify based on their income is certainly a “welfare” program. So is SSI for someone blind, deaf or otherwise too disabled to work. Some of those on what is commonly referred to as being on “welfare” are physically unable to get off “there (sic) lazy a@@(sic) and get a job.” They will never be able to work or leave a nursing home. That is why there is no “cut off date.” All covering statements serve no purpose and need to be clarified if it is to having meaning.

THOSE people and are able to work that are on welfare and every other government "payment plan" do not understand what this program is for, it is a TEMPORARY help. The system was set up back in the 1920's and 30's for the widows with children and the elderly to get them back on there feet. And no they where not on the "welfare" long. I am so sick and tried of people wanting to defend these people. I know that out there in this mean world there are men, grown men, that do not want to work because they are to LAZY. So they get their girlfriend pregnant so they can go get food, free medicial, housing, etc. Please people common sense if someone needs help, get help. DON'T make it a career.

I believe the name of the program back in the 20s and 30s was called Relief. I'm not sure what program like Relief that we have today. Again, some "welfare" programs are for a lifetime. Sometimes people aren't able to recover, i.e.grow another leg. Also it would be very difficult for a man to get free food, free medical, free housing etc. just because his girlfriend is PG. She might qualify for some help, but he wouldn't. I'm certainly against misuse of "welfare," but I suspect that many posting to this topix really don't understand that there are many programs out there that can be classified as "welfare." Comparing a pre-depression time Relief program with today's programs is a Stretch. By-the-way, there's no program that pays someone a check just because they don't want to work except maybe unemployment compensation, but it isn't welfare either as need does not enter into the eligibility requirements. And please tell me what you would do with a poor, elderly widow in public housing? She's receiving "welfare" in the form of housing. Should she be put out after five years, ten, etc.? I think you have to agree there are exceptions to the temporary rule that you suggest.

There is a cut off date. It's only available for a person for 5 years. Clinton got rid of lifetime dependency on welfare.

They cannot get welfare for life!! It's a work assistance program now, designed like the unemployment system. Those lazy bastards can now only get benefits for 5 years max. I am a liberal, probably one of the most liberal persons on Topix, but I don't have sympathy for assholes who don't want to work and pay taxes, aka the dope dealer/strippers/prostitutes of America. Get a job!!

I believe in income based assistance like Housing, Food Stamps, Medicade, SSI, but just hanging out money just because, with no purpose, No I can't agree with that.

This is a very rich country and we should be able to take care of the less fortunate including those because of their upbringing have failed to take advantage of school and other training or lack motivation. We cannot just let people go hungry or die. A few wasted bucks is nothing to helping out our fellow man (and women and children)who are in need. Our government is trying to help everyone by taking a little from those who don't need as much. This is the right thing to do
