It is true that those people hate us. I doubt they are capable of democracy due to tribal ties. The cruel fact is that we must prevent terrorists from having a safe haven. Ironically, that is what we are helping to create all across the Middle East. Has this country lost it's mind?

How's your weekend going?

A roadside bomb killed four NATO service members Saturday in eastern Afghanistan, the coalition said.

It was the deadliest day for NATO service members since May 26, when a total of nine U.S. troops were killed in three incidents.

Bad as that is, would you like them over here killing our women and children. Or better still, would you like for the terrorists to get their hands on Pakistan’s missile arsenal? They can't do that as long as we keep them off-balance. Better to fight over there than to fight over here.

Best wishes to your son.
I don't believe what we are doing there prevents them from attacking the homeland. They have no means to transport themselves in sufficient numbers to battle us here. To quote G.B., "bring it on".

Unfortunately, it only takes one nut with a bomb to cause considerable damage. We are an open society with unprotected borders to the north and to the south. It is disquieting to realize that several nuclear weapons are missing, and can not be accounted for, from the former U.S.S.R., including 2 or 3 so called "suitcase nuclear bombs".

The first link explains the hatred.

"In 2007, a unit of special forces was speeding along a busy road a few miles from his village when they opened fire, killing 19 people and wounding 50. The unit responsible was sent home and the local US commander described the incident as a “stain on our honour”."

I've read lots of articles written about the troops saying how much the Iraqi and Afghan people appreciate their help and treat them well. Whole peoples do not hate whole peoples. Hate is an individual emotion that we choose to take part in. People in this country taught racism in churches and schools but not everyone who heard the teaching believed it or accepted it.

I agree our troops need to come home from wherever they are stationed, but I disagree on the reason.

QUITMAN - Thousands of East Texans came out to bid farewell to a fallen serviceman, lining the route of a motorcade carrying the body of Army Sgt. Joshua David Powell.

Powell, 28, of Quitman was killed in Laghman province, Afghanistan. He and three colleagues died from a blast by a homemade bomb when his unit was on patrol, Army officials said.

Funeral services are 9 this morning at Lake Fork Baptist Church Funeral in Alba. Private graveside services will be held at Rock Hill Cemetery later.

Many along the route Sunday morning were emotional, with flags in one hand, tissues in another. It was a teary welcome home to the soldier killed June 4.

The procession, led by more than 50 Patriot Guard Riders, along with area law enforcement and firefighters, escorted Powell's body from Tyler Pounds Field Regional Airport to Lowe Funeral Home in Quitman.

His parents, Gerald Ray and Brenda Powell, other family members and friends gathered at the airport as the casket bearing Powell's body was carried by members of the U.S. Army Honor Guard to a waiting hearse.

As the procession entered Quitman, area firefighters created an archway using ladder trucks hoisting an American flag. Many bowed their heads or saluted and waved their flags as the hearse and vehicles passed.

Many residents said they felt fortunate to live in a community that embraces patriotism and service.

"No words can express the emotion that rolled through Quitman today," Alba firefighter Shawn Newland said. "To honor such a hero will never leave my mind and heart. This town showed more love than I've ever seen, and I'm proud to call it home."

http://www.wwl.com/Obama-likely-to-cut-10K-tr...

Obama was given a range of options for the withdrawal last week by Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan. The military favors a "gradual reduction" in troops.

The president has said he favors a "significant" withdrawal
