This guy is about the worst NSU baseball coach we have ever had. He wouldnt know talent if he tripped over it. Demons have basically no hitters, could not keep a lead if they had to and he needs to try recruiting from the state of LOUISIANA and possibly a home town guy or two could walk on and help this team right now!!! Come on Burke....you need to get somebody in there that can get the Demons back in contingency and get us some PLAYERS. We have hometown boys that NSU should be recruiting and quit giving lame excuses!

well NSU needs to fire baseball and football coach and if the higher ups cant see what needs to be done maybe they need replacing too!! Howmany losing seasons is it gonna take before Burke and the powers at be decide enough is enough? How much lower are the crowds gonna have to get, how many more losing seasons is it going to take before someone over there at NSU takes some responsibility and takes action. Baseball team is just in need of some serious players as is the football team. Recruiting is extremely weak obviously on both baseball and football standpoints. Come on and get this university back on track!!!

I am tired of all of the out of state JUCO transfers that don't even contribute to the team. Its amazing to look at the rosters of all Louisiana schools and see about 80% of the players are homegrown Louisiana kids. Why are we the only team that's mostly out of state kids? Probably wouldn't if they won games but 2010 was the only winning season in the past 5 years. Something needs to change!

There are several local kids that could and SHOULD have been offered to play for NSU. I guess because J.P. Davis knows he is on the chopping block or at least DARN SHOULD BE he doesnt care about recruiting players especially locals! BE glad when he is gone and someone can actually get in there and recruit "PLAY MAKERS" definition of Playmaker - able to come through in tight situations and play offense and actually HIT the ball! COme on Burke....you know who NSU should be recruiting and you sit back and let it pass us by for someone else to recruit and NSU once again loses the chance!

Okay let me get this straight... we give a kid a scholarship from Natchitoches to play football that can't even pass the grades at the time because his dad is a football coach for a local school and we have 4 year "Honor roll" students who have been role models for the school, peers and have the athletic credentials to justify a scholarship and they are overlooked with the expectations of walking on?????. Where is NSU? What is NSU's excuse for this one. I have been an NSU Alumni supporter for 20 plus years and the whole town and community is watching the way this has been handled and it is disgusting to your NSU Alumni family. This is another political move that will not benefit Northwestern State University one bit. I am a paying supporter of NSU and it is sickening. Randy you and Greg Burke should access this situation and wonder why your local supporters are falling by the way side. You have a fine young man wishing to play sports for this university and you act as though your unaware of what is going on. Get involved. You both are good people who should be putting our university first and the student athletes from this community who have "earned" their way into our NSU family.

Since NSU underwent massive budget cuts and the majority of the faculty stripped of tenure, professorships and anything else the overpaid administrators of this school deemed necessary (except for voluntarily withholding their own pay increases), outstanding teachers, coaches, and anyone else who can find decent employment elsewhere are doing so. They are leaving NSU like rats leave a sinking ship. We have lost some amazing professors and associate professors. If you look on the Louisiana Works job search board you will be astounded at all the positions that are open, and at what they pay. I would dearly love to see an investigative reporter with no "good old boy" connections and no axe to grind come in and start nosing around in what is going on at NSU. It's a dirty crying shame that the only programs we can REALLY be proud of anymore are the teaching and nursing programs. I attended NSU a couple of years ago and I also attended back in the 70's. This school has "dumbed down" to a point that left me absolutely flabbergasted. It's so sad to see what was once a fine school becoming a shadow of its former self because of the "good ole boy" network that is in charge now. Webb and his cronies need to GO!

I am all for recruiting local talent because I like the chance to see those kids keep playing right here in their backyard. If NSU is not giving these high school players a shot, what schools are they going to?

Centenary, LA. Tech, Southern Arkansas, LSUS, McNeese, and the list goes on and on. Point of the matter is what we are recruiting from the state of Texas, California, etc can do no better than what these local kids have proven they can do and not a single one recruited from the local town of Natchitoches. NSU wants to walk around like they are so much better and these kids cant play for NSU....NSU cant win with what they have "RECRUITED" from all over the United States and want to suggest that these young men cant play with their level of ball... Shame on NSU!!

Just wonder if part of the problem could be, local high school coaches are not promoting or show casing their player's to NSU?

Centenary, Southern Arkansas, LSUS - am not sure those programs are at the level of Southland Conference competition. McNeese - if it is the Merritt kid you are talking about, Peveto recruited him but he chose otherwise. LaTech - hard to beat them all the time. Who else is on the "list that goes on and on?" Your answer made my point - if the local players aren't being recruited for the most part by Southland Conference type schools or better, than NSU does not necessarily need to be looking at them either. Look, it can be argued that NSU's recruiting could be better but to say that recruiting locally is the answer is a bit overstated. In fact, when NSU has recruited local kids and they don't play, the NSU coaches take a beating. Darned if they do and darned if they don't.

Forget firing Davis get rid of Burke and Webb and pierce. That would be a start if you can't get rid of jindsl. The three of them have killed nsu athletics! If you have to limit it to one start with Burke. The other two have allowed Burke to make bad decision after bsd decision. I have heard all these years how great of an ad he is. Well if you are going to praise him when things are good put it on the table when they are bad. If every single program struggles it has to be more than the coaches. Question. Did he ever coach or play? If I had to guess I would say no.

Local kids have actually played against the local kids on his roster and beat the heck out of them. How can you judge one player on what the previous "locals" have done. As we all should know, talent is spoken through statistics and individual ability to make things happen on the baseball field. Hitting, fielding, etc, NOT the division that one plays in high school. Although I am not a St. Marys alumni, St. Marys teams for the past several years were all 5A caliber teams but chose to attend St. Marys. Hence, they should not be punished for recruiting purposes because of that fact. Many 1A ball players did and can play with 5A and will and can go on to play SEC caliber ball. I would hardly say that NSU is on top of the SEC level of game.

I am not saying that local recruiting is "the answer" I am merely stating there ARE local kids that are talented enough to play on NSU's team and should be at least considered. They SHOULD be considered at all times by NSU should their talent be justified through accomplishments and statistics. After all the SEC caliber team he has put together with all due respect to the young men on the team have not met the standards by which the locals are being judged and that is NOT from an opinion standpoint that is a factual fact.

Well anyone in this town knows that there is one young man that can play with NSU as well as any SEC team. Regan Kaufman is one of the finest baseball players that has come out of Natchitoches in a long time. Of course his statistics in the Natchitoches Times today and the fact that he was named MVP of the District should stand to reason that he would be worthy of a place on the NSU roster at the very least. There again you are looking at not only a fine young man, an outstanding athlete but an honor roll student as well. Regan will do great things whereever he choses to play. NSU is missing out BIG TIME on this one! Burke should be all over this one as AD but here we go with watching another fine athlete slip through our hands at this university!

Everyone seems to be forgetting one thing: these kids MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS as to who they want to play for. Did it occur to anyone that local kids MIGHT have been recruited to play for NSU and they chose NOT to? Bigger schools with sweeter deals and the chance to get out of Natchitoches might have been a motivating factor to these young people.

There is no excuse for NSU's lack of interest in these young men other than the fact they just dont care about the Natchitoches potentials and spending their scholarship money to keep them here. Beside the fact that these young men (Kaufman) deserve to play at NSU, the crowds that they would generate from hometown locals just doesnt make any sense. The caliber of young men such as Kaufman from a players standpoint as well as a student standpoint - this guy is a competitor in every sense of the word no matter the level at which he plays. I am a former coach of NSU and I am telling you NSU has made a huge mistake on this one. It will be a shame if he is not out there in a Demon uniform representing our university. He is a fine young man in every aspect.

I have to agree with you Demons Alumnus, I am a bit surprised on this one. Kaufman is an exceptional player, motivator, and person. I have had the pleasure of working with him in another capacity other than baseball and he is an exception to every rule. He is strong and he rises to every occasion, I have yet to see it fail. The way he ended his baseball season with a slammer of a homerun is just the tip of the iceburg as to what this young man can do. He will be missed by his school, his teammates and his coaches as well as the fans of St. Marys. He represented our school with pride and dignity and it was a pleasure! He is well-deserving of his MVP award today and I salute his family on a job well done! Regan you are a fine young man and as a father to a son who has been watching you play for many years - I thank you for standing for what is right and for being an example to those aroun dyou both young and old!
