A - why don't you just slam a pre-built script on your hosting account? There are several out there that are easy to set up and let you proof your site idea.

Here are 3 similar ones, but google will find prob a few thousand ..

http://matterdaddy.com/4/scripts/matterdaddy_...

http://www.tukanas.com/classifiedsscript.php

http://www.noahsclassifieds.org/

Replicating CL to a "T" for their barter would be easy as well but I would consdier the script approach.

no, you read whats on that page.

also, this is kinda my grass roots efforts. as a website DESIGNER i do not use templates ever nor am i spending money on it. there is an option to tip or contribute should you wish just to support my time and effort into the site. i've been coding for 12 years and do it pretty efficiently. i do not use templates. it's all hand made. same goes for my company.

yeah I read it ..

I am not sure what grass roots effort has to do with it, I am simply suggesting that there are FREE prebuilt scripts out there to accomplish the funcitonality of Craig's List. Why not use one to test your site proof of concept? No money spent and time saved.

And while I appreciate that you have been coding for 12 years, there is no advantage to being hand made at times. For example, a simple 1 page landing like http://www.velvetrance.com/narce/ yeilds 81 potential errors for non-standardized and compliant code... so you may want to re-evaluate if your efficiency is really accomplishing anything by a hardheaded stance.

Templates certainly have their place in functional and aesthetic areas. If this is your business, you should question why scripts like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and many others have dominated the internet.

because i like making my own designs. i'm not a fan of templates. there is someone i work with who is and when we do certain websites he will incorporate that. but im not asking for coding assistance, im asking for assistance as far as how it would help others. most people REALLY don't care whether my html is perfect. and honestly, i just want it to work. i take pride in the fact i don't use templates, i create everything myself, and i write from hand. this is irrevelant to the feedback i am trying to get.

im asking what people want to see on there. categories, ideas, links, etc.

SO EVERYONE OUT THERE

what do you think would help to be on the natchitoches website for selling, buying, trading, etc? same as craigslist but more honed towards our town. this is what i want to hear from you guys.

technical questions can be addressed to my email personally.(pulsatingmachine@g mail.com)

I'm not sure what feedback you want. I went to the site but didn't see any place to leave feedback or any additional options to click. So I'm back here to leave feedback.
A few people have recently posted some things they're looking to buy or sell, such as a harley, bunkbeds, etc. You might consider posting those on your site to demonstrate how it would work? I dunno.
Also, on another note, it's "its", not "it's". It's is a contraction for it is. Whenever your using i-t-s as a possessive pronoun it's its (no apostrophe). For example, "a dog likes its bed."

Finally, you might consider soliticiting names for the site? I agree with nailgun on the present name.
Nat-Ads (Natchitoches Area Trade Ads) was something that jumped into my almost empty head.

Good luck with it!

yeah here is the place where i want people to discuss options...being it's a message board.

i think that this site would have an impact on perhaps bringing together some community groups as well, i think it has a growth potential, not just in the essence of it being a site but also in bringing groups of people with similar interests together.

sorry i make a lot of typos. considering what i usually write it would make more sense i suppose.

i like the concept behind N.I.C.E.(Natchitoches Involvement towards Community Efforts) because this could involve looking for housemates, subletting, tenants, apts for rent, etc. There could also be announcement from the city. I don't want it to just stop at buying and selling. I think there is a lot more that could be done with it. It could also be a great online advertising space.

FEEDBACK I WOULD LIKE:
-what goes on the site
-what it could look like
-possible names
-functions and purposes
-services
-information offered
-links and such
-announcements
-anything else that could be of use

I want this to be family friendly. This is why im not interested in supporting a dating site.

<brain storm>

I'd really think something simple, divided into sections.

For Sale
Help Wanted
Community Events
Services

That sort of thing.

I like the color scheme you've got going so far.

Ideally have the front page pop up with the latest listings in each category, as well as site announcements.

Call it Cane River Area Postings. ;-)

Craig's List is nothing more than categorized postings. All areas use the same format:

1)Grouped listings by date
2)Title as link to detail
3)Title / Body / support for image

Seems like that is what most people were wanting ..Craig's List for Natchitoches.

You can do your branching or "services" based on categories. Just have a Category Request area so you can expand it as necessary. The maagic of CraigsList is that the community runs it anyway else and you are potentially incurring a LOT of work and little revenue due to weak traffic and small niche.

Build it where you provide the master service and accept donations to keep it going and available.

i could keep it going regardless. but i mean, i am doing it for free. like, free advertising n such. definitely think people should contribute to the tip jar.

ill start more work on it. it will have it's own domain. i kinda like the NICE acronym because in it it's supporting growth. i'd also like it to kinda look like natchitoches as well. i think the colors reflect that.

so people can check out http://www.velvetrance.com/nice/ and tell me what you think along the way. give me a minute to get that up cause i gotta change the graphic.

Hi! I need mystery shoppers in Natchitoches. Is anyone interested in doing that? It is at a local diner and you receive $15 for going to the location, purchasing a meal and writing a report. If interested, please register at www.a-closer-look.com . It is FREE to mystery shop with us...don't ever choose companies that charge you.
