Kids came home Friday and said they are not allowed to wear the darker Khaki Pants. They informed me that we had to go buy new pant before they could return to school on Monday. I called the school board before school started this year and got a clear defination of what they could or could not wear before I went and bought uniforms. I cannot afford to by new pants just becuase the principal has suddenly decided this color khaki is too dark. I find it hard to believe the shade of khaki pants has any impact on a childs education. I feel the principal has really gone to far this time. Has anyone else's child hear this? Any suggestions on how to handle this?

Yes, it was announced to all the students Friday. It is a complete joke. There were a few kids pulled for this Thursday. I refuse to buy new uniforms because the old fart principal thinks he has nothing else to worry about. This should be the least of his worries. Parents are going to have to come together and fight it.

I too called the school board for verification on what was allowed. We are in month 3 of school and all the sudden there is a problem. I find that ridiculous. There were big signs above the pants that said "uniform approved". Maybe NPSB should go buy them what they want them to wear. I find it incredible how the school system more and more seems to mirror the prison system.

Y'all need to fight this.... Especially since the uniforms were approved! They could at least wait until next year to do this. I hope you can all get together and stand up for yourselves, at some point someone has to take a stand.

Is this the same principal that banned hair feathers? Someone is on a power trip.

This is why NCHS scored a "D" in the parish. If they would be as concerned about educating the kids instead of policing them, they might see results.

I was in the office on Thursday when a parent came in about her son's pants. Mr. Skinner got loud with her. He was very rude. The color of pants we wear does not hurt anything. They should find something better to do with their time.

Call your board member. This is not parish policy. I would not let your school board member off the hook. Call them every day. Demand the board members buy the new pants out of their pocket. Demand if they kick your kid out of school they provide home schooling. In month three the rules change? The other schools are not worried about what shade of khaki the children wear. Your board member can fix this easily, but you have to light a fire under them. Don't let them off the hook. NCHS started with maroon only shirts last year, then more, now one color khaki. This is getting out of hand. Call your board member and tell them how you feel. It is education not drill camp. If your board member supports this they have lost sight of why they were ELECTED.

how ridiculous, you'd think he'd be glad all the kids have pants and leave it at that

it really sounds to me like he needs a lesson in color, khaki is one of the darker beige tones

Dickies makes two shades of beige toned adult pants in uniform style, stone the light ones and khaki the darker ones

seems to me if we want to get picky the light ones aren't the proper ones

any parent who goes out and buys their child new pants is crazy, stand up to this man, go over his head, better yet call a tv station and have them do a human interest story, KTBS in Shreveport loves this type of thing for their "On Your Side" segment

It seems that administration would have better things to do with their time than police students on the color of their uniform pants. They need to get a life and something for our children than to do something against them.

The sad part of this is that when we voted on whether to have uniforms in our schools several years ago the parents voted the uniform policy down. The board wanted them and when they didn't get the votes they needed to pass it they decided to go against the parents votes. Why did they let us vote at all if our wishes didn't matter anyway?

I agree on the call KTBS or any news station to get the coverage. I would refuse to buy more, it's ridiculous if you do too. Next year he'll say all girls have to have pony tails and guys have to be bald. From what I understand the principal is seriously on a power trip. Stand up for yourself people!

How can we get the current uniform policy abolished? "Uniform" means the same. You have different shades of maroon too - is that next? This is the most un-uniform policy in the world! The next thing they will do is force parents to buy only certain brands from certain vendors (or only ONE such as St. Mary's) and we will be broke! Come on we are in a recession. Uniforms are ridiculously hard to find year round, and they are expensive!!! Let's get rid of them!!!

I agree! My daughter outgrows her uniform or they shrink by the time January roles around and then you can't find uniforms anywhere! She has a closet full of clothes that are just going to waste. I understand that uniforms are supposed to "protect" the students and make them feel "equal", but you can tell which students buy their uniforms from American Eagle, Hollister, & so on versus the ones who get theirs from Walmart. Any normal person can go out and buy a uniform and pretend to be a student.

The Nichols store in Coushatta has uniforms year round, running from teeny-tiny to the larger sizes, and they are ALL in the same shade of khaki. If the SHADE of khaki is THAT freakin' critical - let the school board tell us what brands of uniform pants are acceptable, or at least WHICH shade of khaki. Once I've bought my child's uniforms for the year, that budget ship has sailed. I'm just so darned grateful that my child doesn't insist on the "brand" names like Aeropostle, Hollister, etc. She gets Lands End and Academy, period, amen, and will continue to get those.

if Skinner gets on my kid I'm gonna tell him when he provides my child with a "Class A" school I'll worry about the shades of khaki, until that time if he does anything to my kid I'll be seeing him in court, every child is entitled to a education, not just the ones who wear the shade of khaki he likes

I hope you are right. But - when the kids get into jr high 6th grade and up, they get picked on if they wear Dickies or any uniform item that doesn't come from Aeropostale, American Eagle, etc. No way can they wear Wal-Mart, Academy or Sears. The polo shirts can't be just any polo style shirt. It's really sad, I don't want my kids to get picked on, so I buy them what they say. I'm not rich, but I can afford them. It's just a waste of money just so they can avoid being "labeled".

You are absolutely right. Uniforms in general just don't work. Kids by nature are cruel, and will find ways to pick on other kids no matter what. If they can't find something to pick on that CAN be changed, they'll pick on others for things they CAN'T change. If I wanted my kid to wear a uniform, I would send him to a private school or military school.

Also, this Principal Skinner is extremely disrespectful. During the last NCHS graduation ceremony, he had the nerve to try to tell the entire audience that they must obey him and cooperate (he even mispronounced the words!)as if he thought he were the sheriff. Then he actually FELL ASLEEP during the valedictorian's speech and while scholarships were being awarded. This man is NOT a good role model and in no way should be the principal and be in charge of our kids.
Discrimination

Natchitoches, LA

This is discrimination! All students in the parish should have the same dress code, not students hand picked by the principal. This principal, Dale Skinner, is abusing his authority. Parents need to stand together and fight this. As one person posted it is the pants today and will be the color of maroon tomorrow. If parents let this situation slide the principal will have another problem with the students before long. As far as the way the principal talked to the parents about the color of the pants, they should definately report him. Respect is expected of all students and parents, so administration should not be able to disrepect students or parents. He should be punished as he would punish the students!
