besides sit in front of the computer or TV or sleep all day. I have checked with NSU and they don't have anything for that age group except for Art Camp and I haven't heard back on the details for that yet. Does anyone know of anything else that is going on anywhere?

How about volunteering at a Senior Center, nursing home, etc. or maybe start a story time program for preschool kids at the library. Or get a job mowing lawns, baby sitting. Just a few ideas for you to consider.

A lot of youth groups do weekly fun stuff in the summer and most would welcome your child.

Thanks to all for the input. Child is already signed up at the library and is active in our church, but like so many other things, most youth activities shut down in the summer. Same with Boy/Girl Scouts. There's lots going on during the school year, but during the summer it dries up. Will probably be attending art camp at NSU.

Build a tree house with him/her. Take him/her fishing. Build a coup and let him/her take care of some chickens/pigeons/rabbits. Go spend the day at Kisatchie. Get him/her a .22/.410 and go to the shooting range. Start a lemonade stand/mowing service/clean gutters etc...some way to make money, all kids like money. Get a local field guide and get him/her started on leaf/butterfly/bird collection/identification. Build a model airplane and go flying. Nature Walks.
But whatever you do limit their access to TV and computer.

But whatever you do limit their access to TV and computer. Hey Poppa T, so good to see you, I miss your insightful and informed posts on here. You've got some great ideas, most of which are already being done. What I was looking for was organized activities with other kids in the same age group. Kiddo already cares for two dogs, a cat and a horse. Is also currently caring for other people's plants and critters while they're on vaca. to earn money, has an Audubon field guide to birds that's got a log in it that would make most adult bird-watchers envious, helps in the garden. The unfortunate thing is that, due to health problems, I can't tolerate the heat and humidity during the summer so doing things like nature walks and hanging at Kisatchie for the day could very easily end up with me in the hospital, and being unemployed and without health insurance, not a good thing. But thanks for weighing in with some great suggestions. Hope you are doing well.

Sorry to hear about your health and employment problems HFG, I think I would go batty if I couldn't recreate outdoors. I was never a big fan of organized activities when I was a youth, my friends and I could always find more than enough stuff to keep us out of the house and out of sight during the summer months, we never relied on our parents to provide us with activities other than making sure we were signed up for little league and football but I realize that the times have changed. It sounds like your child is stays pretty busy so hopefully he/she will work this out on their own. Good luck on your quest and God Bless.

Poppa T, it's soooo nice to see a positive response on here. One of the only ones I've EVER seen that was genuine. THanks!

It's just during the hot, humid months of summer that I can't blow and go outside with the kiddo. Otherwise, we're out there.
