Same old politics. The three old police jurors stuck together and made Rodney Bedgood chairman and Chris Paige vice chairman. They then continued to try and run the meeting the way they always have with no respect for the law. When they tried to hide in executive session to discuss the salary of the public works director they were informed by Mrs. Carolyn Roy of the Natchitoches Times that that was illegal so they moved to table the motion. They had ALL agreed privately with the president on this matter then stabbed him in the back. I did not expect anything less from John Salter, Chris Paige, or Rodney Bedgood. Stooges until the end. They tell you one thing privately and do the opposite when it matters. Great job voters on electing these people.

I don't think going into executive session is illegal, but they must come out of session into public formum and vote in public.

It is illegal to go into executive session for the purpose of discussing salary. You can go in to talk about the candidate for the position but his salary discussion must be done in public. This man is a civil engineer this is the type of person we need running public works. The salary is in line with his qualifications.

We dont need a civil engineer to run that department for $70,000. We just elected one for $80,000. Its a good thing we have those three to look out for us. How did tricky ricky lacour vote? Hire somebody for $30,000 and lets move on. It dont take too much smarts to point and grunt, you just need employees that speak grunt

You get what you pay for. A civil engineer that is certified in bridge inspection, as he is, will save us close to as much as we pay him. We need people who know how to fix things the right way instead of patching stuff as we have been doing. Those three are about as sorry as human brings can be and it will come out. The parish deserves better than them. At least give the parish council a chance to work. If it doesn't then you can at least say you tried. This will be interesting.

Because these three people dont see things your way they are as sorry as human beings can be? What does that say about you? Rick dont see things are do things my way but he is not as sorry a human being as I've ever seen. That honor would most likely go to you.
These people are doing what we expect them to do, Look after our parish. We dont need a $70,000 plue car, insurance, and expense account bridge inspector.
The state has those people on payroll that can give advice if needed.
If the parish was out of money and could not afford to pay their bills before how the hell can they afford to pay one man all this money? In case you havent noticed things are hard all over the world. That includes here.
If you want to blame somebody for the shape of our parish blame those that didn't let out parish grow, those that wanted to keep it a farming town. A retirement town. We need growth to pay people that kind of money.
One thing you did get right in what you said was you get what you pay for. We pay council members a whole $500 a month without any benefits. For the hours they give our parish they should be paid a lot more

I want my roads fixed. I want better trash service. I want lower gas prices. I want cheaper food costs. I want better city public water. I was a river (lake) that dont go dry most of the year. I want less spending all around and more for my dollar.

What I really want is this man that you people think is our savior to not waste the money we give him to run our parish. he is not in office to give his friends jobs that pay more than we can afford.

Those three sorry excuses of human beings are our checks and balance.
We gave that man the job he wanted. we gave these sorry excuse of human beings the job to keep him in line.
Job well done. You three need a raise.
We could give Ricky Lacour one too but he was confused on his vote.

Raise???? They need to be fired! Instead of Checks and Balances they are only interested in what they can do for themselves. Nothing positive will ever happen for our parish with those three on the council. Salter and Paige are the worst and Bedgood is just their puppet. All councilmen agreed with the president about the salary when he spoke with them prior to the meeting, not one showed any concern or issue (or they are liars, go figure). They did this to try and show who runs the parish. They will be surprised how this will work out, I will put my money that the public works director will still get hired at the salary agreed upon before the meeting. All of the councilmen and the president were elected to do their best for the parish, not for their personal power or gain. It is sad that they are not even willing to try and advance the parish, they want to keep doing the same stunts that have not worked for years. The people of the parish deserve better than this. I would stand behind them if they would stand up and at least try to make positive changes instead of trying to bring the new council down to their old way of doing things. If you honestly believe these men are doing the right thing then you must be one of the idiots that also believes that Obama is the nations savior. We need men of integrity leading us.

Were any of you who are posting about all of this actually AT THE MEETING??? Have you actually read the Home Rule Charter in its entirety? If not, you're all spitting in the wind. I'm sure a lot will be written in the Natchitoches Times about it come this Thursdays edition. Also, even though Randy Stelley didn't even bother to go to the meeting, he plans to publish a big article about it in The Real Views. According to him, he knew all about what was going to go down prior to the meeting and therefore felt no need to attend. This should get really interesting.

Yes I was at the meeting and yea I have read the entire charter. They were within their rights to vote as they did, but they should vote for what is best for the parish not just to show up the president. He has power that I don't think they realize. I expect this was a test to see if they were going to work with him or against him. I bet Rick figures out how to get around them in this issue.
