Judge back on bench after brain surgery

Judge Holly Williamson

Pasadena, TX

#1 Jan 4, 2010
Life takes amazing turns and Judge Holly Williamson’s return to the bench only seven short weeks after brain surgery is a full 360-degree.

Judge Holly commented to her husband Doctor Danny Williamson about some strange headaches that were making noise in her ears. He clearly saw more to those headaches than the Judge did. He encouraged her to see Dr. Jane Noojin who ordered a CT scan just to rule out any concerns.

The CT scan led to an MRI the same day. A large Sphenoid Meningioma was diagnosed on Wednesday November 11th. Judge Williamson had the benign tumor removed in a two day procedure on November 16th and 17th by Dr. J. Zhang, a very skilled brain surgeon with the Neurological Institute at Methodist Hospital.

Friends and family were able to follow the progress of Judge Williamson through Facebook and Twitter entries by campaign manager and long-time friend, Rae Sinor on both her own and the Judge’s site.

How different the world looked a year ago when Judge Williamson won the seat left empty by retiring Judge Molly Maness. Judge Williamson was sworn in on January 1, 2009. Judge was elected by Harris County JP’s as Co-Presiding Judge on November 9th, just two days prior to learning of the tumor. Judge Williamson also serves as an instructor for the Texas Justice Court Training Center teaching contracts, torts and mediation at J.P. conferences across Texas.

“I love serving as Justice of the Peace. Being away during my recovery made me realize even more how much I love and appreciate serving as J.P. I missed serving the people of our community and the real difference the People’s Court makes in their everyday lives,” commented Judge Williamson.

Today her prognosis is for a 100% recovery. She attributes the success of her surgery to her faith in God, the skill of her surgeons and nurses at Methodist Hospital and the to the prayers of so many. Long-time friend Melissa Harrison gave the judge a prayer blanket in which knots were tied for each prayer for the Judge. As the thousands of well wishes from emails, calls, letters, cards, flowers and visitors poured in, each prayer was noted with a knot on the blanket. Judge Williamson cherishes the tangible reminder of the love that the community shared with her and knows that the prayers made a difference.“I thank GOD each and everyday. My dear friend Danny Schnautz reminded me the day before my surgery, that God has the Whole World In His Hands and the reminder of that fact throughout this journey is what has given me great peace,” shared Williamson.
