My grandson has family in Nashville. The father doesn't have anything to do with the child. I even told Ky to not go after him for chil support. My daughter, husband, son, myself have raised this child since birth. He will be 3 in November. So the grandmother in TN pops up says I want a picture of her grandson and complimented about how we have taken such good care of him. Well my reaction to her was (he will be 3 in Nov so why are you asking noe?). She p,Ayer it off that her son did not say or tell he much. Well she knew my daughter. She knew she was carrying my grandson.
Need your opinion and thoughts!
Kids need structure. We support him no help from the government he has health insurance. All that said tell me what you think.
Remember the child is in KY she in TN. What are the laws?

I'd be interested to know this as well. My grandson is 2 1/2 and we've pretty much raised him since he's been born. My daughter lived with us the first 14 months and they live a 1/2 mile away. The father has never seen him. My ex-wife (daughter's mom) has seen him 3 or 4 times. He loves his papa, I've been the father-figure and always there for his 2 1/2 years. Should something ever happen to my daughter I would be very concerned about what my rights would be.
I thought I'd be living a different live with my kids grown but love this boy and have invested my life into his. He is very happy ...smiles and sings all the time. I would never want him to be put in a situation that was not best for him and his happiness and what he's known life to be so far.
I hope you find what your rights are and that your grandchild remains in a place where his happiness and stability is first and foremost.

Since the child lives in KY I would research state grandparent visitation statues. There are several in Tennessee for visitation to be ordered- ie, did the child live with the grandparents, substantial relationship in which the loss if would cause harm, etc but also it has to be proven it is in the best interest of the child.
In the scenario there was a recent Supreme Court or Appeals case ruled recently- if I remember correctly since you are no longer a step-grandfather you would have no rights to the child at all. You can look up tennessee grandparent statute, as well as case law on the Tennessee Supreme Court website.

A happy pop! God bless you! In my situation me & my husband have custody of our grandson. This was my daughters decision b/c the father is absent. That sits well with us. We want my grandsons father to live his life since he is married. My grandson won't be a 3rd wheel to no one in this world. Get your name on so. Paperwork &get it before a judge have her sign it. It was easy for us b/c we supply this little guy with everything. We keep records ( mainly for ourselves) to make sure if we need to speak with a 3rd party our ducks are in a row.
