What could they have done? The person responsible for the bills said cut it. They have to have someone on the account to keep the power on.
I know where you are coming from. I understand all to well how so many renters screw the landlord. Move out during the night. Stealing anything they can, leave without paying the back rent. My brother owns several rentals in which I collect rent for him. I have heard EVERY excuss known.

But for us we would have tried to have given the families alittle time to have cut the utilities on. I don't know why he did this the way he did. Maybe he told them. Maybe they didn't pay rent very well. maybe they weren't taken care of the home. Maybe he just wanted them out.

As far as we rent, the utilities (electric) is never in our name to begin with. When they rent the homes from day one they have to get their own electric. Wonder why he has it on in his name to begin with? We actually let most of our renters pay in several payments their dp. so they can get their electric on. It is very expensive to move.

I still would hate to think I would cut anyone electric off as cold as it is, but I understand because we couldn't afford to get stuck with others high electric bill. Sad, for all who are concern

I can see both sides. So many people do abuse the electric if it is included with rent. They wouldn't care and just run it way to high. But the landlord could be a cap on the amount they pay and the renter pay anything over that amount.

Why did he have the electric on in his name anyway? Why did these people think that electric was included?

I guess you were trying to be funny about the small white furry dog. It's ok anyways.

My post was in regards to the electric company, not the landlord.

I think you meant to reply to landlord.

Fish head soup tastes crappie.

I'd rate it zero on a scale of 1-10.

Now, go back to school.

O I guess I got confused for a second. I would have hoped the landlords could have given as much time as they could before turning off anyone's electric as cold as it is. But we weren't there and maybe they do, I don't know.

Yell I understand when the electric co. gets a person telling them to cut the electric off, they have to do it. They might not even know that anyone is still living there. But if they did know I would hope that they would have gave them notice, or told them of places that might could have helped them.

But as we all know and it is sad, but so many people will try and get things for nothing. If they knew the electric wasn't included and they knew they had to have the electric cut on, then it was up to them to find a way to do that. Alot of programs out there that helps people.

Only ones I felt bad about was the kids.

All I can say is this...I hope the "slumlords" can sleep at night knowing they had the electric cut off. I am a home health nurse and I have several patients who live in these trailers! I've seen the signs that say "utilities included". And, the rent they pay is absolutely ridiculous! More than my house payment!!!! The insides of these so-called remodeled trailers are horrid! For some of these people, it's the best they can do...for some, I know they are out for handouts, etc. The majority I see are old and live in conditions beyond most of our imaginations. My mother is so blessed, as am I. I pray for these people and hope the slumlord can live with himself!

I understand what you are saying. My brother has 4 trailor and a house he rents. I collect rent for him. I have to say we have very nice trailor, and we try to keep everything up as much as we can. I have heard probably every excuss for not having the rent that a person can come up with.

Yes, some are doing the best they can and can't help things that happen. But we do have some renters who will have a beer in one hand or a trash bag full of beer cans and a smoke in the other hand as they are giving us the excuss why they can't pay rent.

My brother is not wealthy by no means and has worked very hard to buy and pay to have these rental properties. No one died and gave them to him or he didn't have the money gave to him. HE WORKED his butt off to have what he has.

I have seen him let them pay no dp. because they just didn't have it, only to move out leaving backrent and damage to the homes.

So I can understand both sides, but it is not always the renters getting done dirty, some of these renters do the landlords dirty as if they think the landlords owes them.

As someone who had a rental property, I will add that although its cold, you get renters, who make all kinds of excuses, which leaves the renter to pay ,that months rent, out of their pockets, and in some cases, the utilities too! Could you afford to do that??? I could not, and thats why I couldnt wait to sell the rental property, and get out of it!!!! Everyone is having it tough, including the people, renting the property. I had to pay, the Insurance on the property, as well as pay for each repair...and there were many...replace broken apppliances, and was asked to give them more time to pay, and when I did....they didnt pay....Which costed me evem more.....You also have to pay someone, to clean carpet, and repair or paint, and clean, every time someone moves out...If you were renting, so many times I lost money, instead of making anything....Thats why I quit !!!!
That can happen, but the reason why the landlord in this case did it was because the renters asked for repairs of the bare wiring hanging down from the ceiling. Also, these units had no heat, an violated every code for rental property around: water lines interconnected between the trailers, and electric, and sewer done the same way--in order to turn one trailer's utilities off, several people lost utilities. They were fire traps waiting to happen. These people were paying their rent, on time, and only asked to have a decent place to live for the outrageous sums they were paying weekly (nearly $200 a week!) Please do not even try to compare a decent rental with these hovels.

You can go to one of the local churches they might help you especially considering you have kids. Not trying to be a jerk but why did you move here without a job first sparta is pretty small more then likely have to commute.
