Does anyone know what happened to Dr. Arrowsmith? I have emailed, called and no one has responded.
I tried to call yesterday and received a message that the number has been disconnected.
Any info?
Thanks

Dr Stewart Schoffner is better, has more experience. Go to him instead.

Hi,
Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately I had my surgery a few years ago and I curse the day I had it.
I now have chronic severe dry eye, from Lasik, and wanted Dr. Arrowsmith to call in Restasis for me to try.(guess that won't happen now.)
I am so disappointed with the Arrowsmith Eye Institute.
Thanks again

Sounds like you have been the victim of a fly by night operation. Call the TN State Medical Board and ask them for advice.

I had my surgery with him this summer. I heard he had financial issues and closed up. A lot of us are left hanging. I'm considering legal action.

Can someone please enlighten me on what happened to arrowsmith eye Institute? I was supposed to have a followup appointment 3/11/11 from cataract surgery. I am not pleased at all with the results!

I had Lasik surgery several years ago and was plesed with the result. I faithfully followed up every year since. I was scheduled for my annual checkup again on 3/17/11. I called this morning (3/7/11) and learned the phone number for Dr. Arrowsmith has been disconnected. What has happened?

If you read the above post, it looks like Dr Arrowsmith closed this past summer due to financial reasons.
I too suffer with chronic dry eye. I had to go to another surgeon and obtained a prescription for restasis and it has helped tremendously.
I went from using 20-30 drops, each eye daily, to app. 10 drops each eye daily.
Good luck.

I don't know what happened to Dr. Arrowsmith but his has never been a "fly by night" operation. Anyone who really knows eye care in Nashville will tell you that he raised the bar for many ophthalmologits when he came back from his Miami fellowship in the early 80's. At taht time the Vanderbilt doctors were the only real game in town and there was so much enmity and childhishness within that group of doctors that Nashville needed someone to come to town and rattle cages- and that is exactly what he did. He was the most forward thinking eye doctor in town for may years. If people like him had not been willing to do RK, PK and epikeratophakia procedures in the 80's and 90's, there would be no lasik surgery today. And to suggest that somehow, Dr. Shoffner is a better eye surgeon is just laughable.

I hope you all find good doctors to take care of you. I also hope that Dr. Arrowsmith is OK. This all seems very odd.

I have no doubt that your opinion on Dr. Arrowsmiths abilty as an eye doctor is correct. The fact of the matter, however, is that he closed up and left his patients hanging without any communication, referrels or followup.

Like I said, it's very strange. I hope his OWN health is OK at this point. My nect call would be to Dr. Chang, Dr. Shivitz, Dr. Shofner, Dr. Felch- any of these are great doctors and can get your records from Dr. Arrowsmith's office. He didn't just turn off the lights and drive away. They will hsve the immediate answers that you need. And for the record, it's Mr.RN..

I really hope you get what you need right away. If you don't, give me a non-private email address I and I will make some calls for you and try to help you. I don't work for an eye doctor.

It would be hard for anyone to get records from an empty office whether you are a Dr. or RN. If money was the issue then ethics should also prevail. A post card would have been more ethical than run and hiding like he has done.

I had Lasik performed by Dr. Arrowsmith about 8 yrs ago. Was tickled to death with the results. Yes, I suffered from dry eye for a couple of years but I was warned of that along with many other possible complications/side effects. I don't think those of you who are bashing him here about closing up and leaving you hanging are being very fair to him. Grant you, he should not have closed up if he had taken money for services not performed without returning that money, but as Mr RN stated, something sounds wrong here. Don't be surprised if Arrowsmith is a victim of frivilous lawsuit or even possibly shut down by the IRS for tax problems that may or may not be true. IMO, Dr. Arrowsmith has been a great professional MD in all dealing I have had with him. My gut feeling is the Dr. Arrowsmith who performed my procedure is not the type of guy who would bilk patients out of money, especially not after 30+ yrs of business. Sounds like Mr RN is accquainted with the eye docs in this town and knows the good ones and the not so good ones and his statements about this doctor support my opinion of him. I choose to think this was out of Arrowsmith's control. I also choose to be thankful that I was able to have the procedure done by Dr. Arrowsmith and have enjoyed the many benefits it has provided me, even if I have had to suffer a few minor side effects.

When a contract for lasik correction for up to 5 years at an additional prepaid price over the cost of Cataract surgery goes away without explanation causes such questions to be asked. Ethics in any business or profession is simple, DO THE RIGHT THING !

When I almost lost my sight some 30 years ago, Dr A. was the only one my family (all in the medical field) could find who could and did help save my vision. I have no idea why his office closed but this I do know...Nashville has lost one of the best.

Ok, Dr. Arrowsmith is the greatist eye surgeon in history, a saint, blah, blah, blah. My question to all his fans: what do his patients do now?
Eye surgery is expensive. We all paid a lot of money to Dr. A for surgery and follow up care. Yes there are other eye doctors in Nashville, but they have no obligation to treat Dr. A's patients. They, of coarse, would love to treat us, as long as we pay.
The point of this conversation is not what a great Dr. he was, but how he left us. No referrels, no communication, no follow up.

My sister had eye surgery under Dr. Arrowsmith in the early 80's. She is now in her mid sixties and needs cataract surgery. She is needing her records from Dr. Arrowsmith as the eye doctors in Texas where she now resides, say they need the measurements prior to her surgery to operate now on her cataracts. Anyone finding out how we can get these records, please post. Thanks.
