I wish they would fix the grammatical errors in the five thousand dollar plaque outside the Center. It's embarrassing.

Well, my question is simple, yet people consider me intelligent. Why is there a Commemorative Center for three ditches that were retreated from when the first Union uniform was seen. I mean, I understand the need for the "imported" cannon being there, but? I mean is the original white flag on display there that had been left by the defenders? Is some of their fossilized feces from when they panicked and fled? Intelligent minds whish to know. WHAT THE HELL IS THERE TO COMMEMORATE?

There is an interesting historical fact about Fort Defiance that is mostly overlooked. There was an old man named John Trotter living near Emerald Hills when war broke out. His wife sewed him a new shirt for his 70th birthday. Unfortunately, the shirt was navy blue.

He had to stop wearing the shirt because every time the old man rowed out on the Cumberland to go fishing, our gallant Fort Defiance defenders tried to surrender to him.

Interestingly, his wife took the 14 white flags he collected and made her whole family new bed sheets.
