Drunk drivers need harsher punishments. When are we going to get the picture on this issue (and so many others)?

Donna,
From what I can see from watching the video, that is NOT blood all over the car. It's the reflection of the RED emergency lights at the scene. The camera just happened to click the picture at that precise moment. That's what it sure does look like to me.

I think this picture should be blown up and posted on a billboard along the interstates. Here is goes:
Here is alcohol (picture of beer/liquor)
Here is your car (picture of a car)
Here is your car driven by alcohol
(picture of this wreck)

Yeah it's graphic, but as hugbear2425 stated, it is reality. Maybe this will show people what really happens.

On a lighter note, my sympathies go out to the Iowa husband and all families involved who has now lost a life due to someones poor decision. It will be worse if the couple had children.

Not saying that is the case here, but one word of advice I heard many years ago. DO NOT hang out in the fast lane of the interstate at night. Get over to the right whenever possible. Think of yourself as the drunk driving down the wrong side of the interstate. What would be the natural tendency in that or any other state? It would be on the right lanes, which puts you going in the opposite direction of the fast lane. It is especially dangerous at night, topping hills, and rounding curves. Just throwing that out there for y'all.

After watching the video again, I still think it's the reflection of the red emergency lights on the car's wheel and the car's finish at the same precise moment the camera's lens clicked. However, I think it's good that it looks like blood and I agree with you that the picture needs to be blown up and put on billboards on the interstates. It would certainly get the point across. But unfortunately, there are drunks out there that could care less and will not heed warnings.

AMEN, this needs to be used as a SAFETY REMINDER WHAT ALCOHOL CAN DO. The red ligthts make it more gorey. I understand that for an alcoholic involved in a fatal accident, they should be an observer during an autopsy; it'll make a believer out of you! Many times, one cannot refrain from throwing up.

I think that's an excellent idea to have drunk drivers observe an autopsy. I have observe autopsies myself (because I was considering going into mortuary science at one time)and although I was fascinated by the science and autopies, it would not prove to be so to a normal person. Like you said, most times people can't refrain from losing their lunch.:o) But it certainly succeeds in getting the point across about the mixture of alcohol and driving.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the families affected by this tragedy ....

As far as "blood" being bad in the picture .. I, too, agree it should be spread everywhere .. written on the rock wall above the crash ... "Here's where another senseless driver took, yet, another life with alcohol" ...

I disagree about showing the pics with blood in them (those pics have been removed and it was NOT the reflection from lights).

Showing pics with such detail does not bring awareness of the horrid tragedy, it is just sensationalism and in fact has the opposite effect. It conditions people to expect that morbidity after seeing those details and desensitizes people to the harsh reality.

If you need to see bloody pics to realize that this was a horrible tragedy then you have issues. Do you really think this would deter a potential drunk driver? No way. The people reading this and mourning this tragedy aren't typically the people perpetrating these types of crimes.

No, the video and pictures I seen were definitely reflection of the red emergency lights on the car's wheels and finish. It was NOT blood. So evidently we seen different pictures. Seeing bloody pictures may have the opposite effects on you but on a normal person, it can prove to be an
eye opener to the reality of mixing booze and driving 3000 lbs of metal. However, as I have already stated....sadly, the majority of drunk drivers do not heed warnings or graphic gorey pictures of accidents.

Every day people die from drunk drivers and yet drunk drivers continue to get behind the wheel. I've always thought that people who get DUI's should have to see graphic pictures, visit the morgue or whatever might possibly get through to them. It's so heartbreaking when lives are lost or ruined by drunk drivers.
My sympathy to all those affected by this.

This is yet another senseless act of someone being selfish enough to drink and get behind the wheel. I think personally that someone involved in an accident after drinking should be put in the middle of the road and ran OVER with a car. I mean at least this way we know they would at least hurt if not get killed. Drunk drivers do not DESERVE to be alive and need SOME way to make them think.

I thought the other car was going in the wrong direction. Drunk or not something was bound to happen. No one should drink and drive but also drivers have to be extremely careful and not get on the highway going in the wrong direction. Drivers need to be 100% sure they are paying attention to all signs and details. Especially at 2:30 am. I do not like driving at this time of night because people are still speeding, tearing the road up,hanging in the left lane and yes, sometimes drunk.
