<quoted text> Well, "Sassy", I respectfully disagree with almost all of this. let's examine what has happened to our country.
"WE" the older generation were handed a country from our parents and grandparents that had cutting edge infrastructure for the time. A state of the art interstate highway system, the most modern up to date bridge and tunnel system, a rail system that was the envy of the world, and an electric grid that reached the most rural of customers thanks to the REA.
We were handed a powerhouse industrial system thanks in part to government investment in WWII, that was the basis for the USA becoming a superpower, and made us the number one producer of goods in the world.
We were handed a banking system that, thanks to the lessons learned in 1929, was second to none in the world, solid as a rock, and safe enough to draw investments the world over.
We were handed Social Security, a program that was a contract between generations, funded by current workers and solvent enough to pay out retirement benefits forever.
We were handed a publc school system second to none in the world that prepared any kid that wished to do so, the tools to go to college.
We were handed the best institutions for secondary education anywhere, and they were affordable enough for everyone but the poorest kids to access, thanks to the investments made in state institutions by taxpayers.
We were handed a system that allowed safe stock investment in Americas greatest corporations without fear that the principles in those companies would fleece those stockholders of their hard earned cash, thanks to the hard lessons of 1929 and a powerful oversight structure at the SEC.
We were handed a vibrant economy where jobs were plentiful, and if you had an ounce of ambition, a man could work 40 hours, own a home, raise a family, send a kid or two to college and retire with dignity. That job came with health insurance for you and your family provided ENTIRELY by the employer, paid vacation and a defined benefit pension. Mothers could remain at home and raise families IF they wished to without being driven into poverty, and CEO's made 10 to 20 times what the average worker in the plant made.
We were handed the American Dream.
I have outlined just a few of the gifts handed to us by our parents and grandparents and this great country. Take this list and compare what "we" are handing off to our kids and grandkids...and please tell me what the national disgrace is and where the blame should be placed ?
OT, I absolutely agree with you 100%. What I didn't make clear in my Post, is that I was referring to a sense of Fairness being a good thing and Unbridled Greed being a bad thing. We seemed to have completely done the reverse since I was growing up and I saw it happening when my Kids were growing up...the Greed, the "get all you can for yourself" and no remorse for doing just that, regardless of who you hurt or how much they suffered because of your actions. It started in small ways with the Children and their Parents did nothing to stop it. Wherever Kids and Parents were congregated, some of the Parents would actually tell their Kids to push and shove to get in front of the other Kids. I taught my Kids to wait their turn.
IMO, those little ways that Parents taught their Children to behave, followed them into Adulthood and,as adults, they see nothing wrong with doing the same thing, just on a bigger and more massive scale and they have taught their Kids to do the same and the cycle has only gotten more prevalent, with more at stake, as the years have passed, until we have the "Winner take all" mentality that is dominating out Society, today. Being the most ruthless, greediest, toughest, and having the least amount of integrity and character is something to be proud of, as long as you win, no matter how you do it! the "End Result justifies the Means" that one uses to get whatever they want. THAT is the National Disgrace, IMO.

Greg, you will have to explain further since some of us, like me, aren't familiar with the American Wilderness Act nor the GOP-backed Bill that you're referring to.

You are such a fraud Dunlapian... you aren't concerned about Medicare OR Social Security or you wouldn't give a damn about someone's past...but that is the crux of your statement...and the thrust of your assertion.. all about DesJarlais tawdry past. Believe it or not, past mistakes CAN shape how you change and live your life in the present and future... SO with alot of faith, I'M praying that the Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, House and White House will get serious about Medicare & Social Security because everything Obamacare has done at this point is jeopardizing Medicare and there certainly hasn't been anything discussed federally regarding Social Security. And you know why??? Because they aren't ON our system of Social Security or Medicare and unless people get off their sorry butts and contact Congress, nothing will ever change...Hope the chicken in your pot rots Dunlapian
Good Morning Willard........you really don't confuse me with all of your alias's/AKA's ect. But I do see you are putting Mary Ann and Carol back to work judging the post.........good for them, it keeps them busy and out of trouble.

The only reason I go into someone's past is when they are using "Family Values/Pro-Life as a means to get vote's and they are the one's that are frauds.

But if we can separate "Family Values/Pro-Life from political issues, I'm all for it.

Your right about how past mistakes can shape your life, as I have made many.......and probably the biggest was going to Vietnam and doing evil things. But I have learned from these mistakes and have become as you would call our "resident socialist".

BTW, I believe you missed my mention about getting off my butt, and contacting Congress. If you read my whole post you would of realized that I have already sent Scott 2 e-mails, one which is just about Social Security and a very simple thing to start to improve it. But I see Mary Ann and Carol did not read the whole post before blowing it out of the water with their judgements.

Willard you should really try to get a handle on Mary Ann and Carol.

WILLARD, are you a Far Right-Wing Evangelical that's actually Pro-Choice? Man, if you are, there may be hope for you, yet!
I mean that is what you're advocating by your support of DesJarlais...of course, you're also advocating being a Lying Two-Faced Hypocrite, but I'll accept the Baby Steps toward you coming to your senses. The longest journey starts with one step!:)

What is it about Greeneville, TN.? Everytime it's mentioned on here, it's always for something bad! I'd never even heard of the Place until somebody posted that the Trolls on that Forum had bullied somebody into committing suicide...and that got my attention really quickly!
So, is it just an Evil Little Bed of degradation or what?

I think WILLARD is a Baptist. If he is, he's all about that Chicken in a pot, especially on Sunday, because those Baptist do love to eat! If a Month goes by and they don't have , at least, two "Dinners on the Ground", then the Preacher has to buy groceries! Lol!

And from the 1940's until 1994, the democrat party ran the congress, and progressives have shaped the thinking of the young.

You took over the education system that graduates young adults who lack basic reading and math skills.

You have made success and achievement something to be scorned, while failure and laziness are rewarded.

You have declared war on religion, except for islam, and the result is a young generation that has no goals, little inspiration, motivation, and absolutely no dedication.

You complain about a lack of jobs, yet you make it difficult to create jobs. You penalize business and glorify government.

You complain that big business is bad but somehow big government is not.

You make fun of people who choose to live their lives like Ozzie & Harriet, and glorify "alternative" lifestyles.

You use our freedoms to restrict our freedom. You use the laws that protect freedom to restrict freedom. That called progress.

No, OT, it is progressives who have created the mess we're in. It wasn't done in just 8 years of the Bush administration. Indeed, the economy is only a temporary part of the problem - it will come back.

What is permanent and probably can't be undone, is that you've destroyed the soul of the country.

You are the "destruction" party.

Several years ago, I found a Cannonball lying in my front yard...at least, that's what I think it is. It looks like it might be the same size of that one, the best that I could tell in the pic.
It was bigger than a baseball and alittle smaller than a Softball. I've still got it here somewhere. It's heavy!
What scared me was that if it had hit my house, it could have killed one of us.

Romney spends HIS money-not someone ekse's! He did not take a salary while he served as governor. I can not comprehend his anyone can not see the wastfulness of Obama! He cares nothing about our country. His only agenda is to break this nation. May God forgive our mistakes!
