Scared Vanderbilt staff

Vanderbilt brought in a consulting firm who recommended that they lay off approx. 200 bedside staff members, mostly nurses. These layoffs began monday, july 2nd. They're still hiring "nurse residents" though. This sounds to me like Vandy is laying off higher wage nurses and hiring cheap new nurses. Not right Vandy!!!

It may not be right, but welcome to the real world. This goes on at numerous companies.

Seems there just firing employees with higher pay to save money. Thus they can't collect unemployment. Double screw. Where's the kiss first?

If you want a job that seldom lays off, then try working in a nursing home! Maybe the pay is less but the security is better. Nursing homes are quickly becoming step down units since the hospitals are letting people go home sooner (because of Obamma Care). The insurance companies are not wanting to pay for extended stays regardless of the reason. It was just a matter of time before the hospitals started to trim to fat. If they would hire Lpn's as well as RN's they could save some money. There are good Lpn's out there.
