I find it appalling that 7 staff members at Thornapple Manor were fired simply for being within 3 months of being vested for 10 years of service and therefore being eligible for full retirement benefits. Resident safety and well being are put at risk by replacing experienced, caring and loyal employees with someone right off the street simply because they're cheaper to pay. I would NEVER send a loved one to that facility due to their cavalier treatment of employees. No wonder Michigan is in such a financial mess!

There must be more to this story that we are not getting here.
Care to elaborate?

You're right DMiller. I've worked there for 30 years, and seen many co-workers retire.

Compare T. Manor to many many other senior care facilities and you are going to find that TM is a fine place. It has come a long way over the years....of course it isn't perfect by any means....(what place is?) but, survey the residents and I am certain that you will find that most of them are for the most part, happy with their care.
The nurses seem to be a pretty caring group also....I guess I didn't realize that they were plucked off of the street....out of the gutter?
If so, I am very impressed with them as caregivers.
Come on D Huested....what really gives?

Would you like to work somewhere for 10 years, get excellent evals, work all the overtime asked of you, only to be told they're "reorganizing and cutting costs" when you and the other 6 are all conveniently within 3 months of being able to claim retirement benefits? If you worked 8 days in a row to help because they are "so Shorthanded and need the help", wouldn't you consider it odd that they can suddenly let you go?

Maybe it wasn't what you did or didn't do, maybe it was how you did it and your attitude.

I am just not sure how true your figures are here...I think you are maybe using that figure of 7 people just to make yourself look innocent....If I am wrong, please forgive me but I guess if we knew of the seven people....THEN possibly, you would have more support.

It wasn't me- I don't even live there- it was a relative who was actually in management there and the number of people fired was 7.

Well.....I DO work there and anyone else working there asked cannot begin to think of who these seven (six other)people are....possibly you are not getting the entire story.

I don't know about all of the "politics" going on :o( but I would like to take the opportunity to say....right here in this forum....that I have been extrememly blessed and fortunate to be an (employee) at T. Manor. I never realized it until recently after a most unfortunate accident.
I have been cared for and about by all of staff and residents.
I am so very impressed with the way staff has come together and has done so much for me while I have been out for the past six weeks.
It took this accident for me to see just what I always suspected was true.....all of you there are the most caring, thoughtful, unselfish people and I pray for blessings for each and every single one of you every day and will never stop.
Thanks....now you can get back to the other subject....:o)

I have worked at TM for many years, If there have been that many employees fired in the last year who were about to be vested I believe the people working there would have known about it at least to some extent. so who are they? I see caring people working there every day

i wish TM would explain where all the taxes are going for the remodel! I am working on the construction project and live and pay barry county taxes and some things that they want done are the cheap way out BUT lets get every resident a 32 inch flat screen tv but on the remodel of the old building dont get new windows! no smoking on the grounds and if they see you IN THE ROAD they want you off the job! the road is not TM property! The staff needs to remember who pays them! and who is paying for that remodel and new buildings! The upper staff should pay attention to residents not crawling around looking for pin holes in grout! Maybe the tax payers should do all the inspections! after all we are paying for it!
