My grandmother's family was from Nashville. Still there, I assume. Her family is traced back to this area in the early / mid 1800's. The family names are Seyler, Richards, and Wilson. I always thought it was a beautiful little town when we would visit. Never lived there, though. I was raised in Belleville and moved to Minnesota over 20 years ago. I miss a lot about Southern Illinois. Especially the mild winters. It surprises me to see so many negative things written about Nashville.

It's a bit like high school. If it is important to you to be part of the "in" crowd, don't move there. The "in" crowd is well established and they don't like things to change. If you are just looking for a nice place to live, low crime, decent weather, then go for it and ignore the local politics. Bop has a point about P'ville, the house prices are lower, property taxes are lower...and my understanding is that the quality of education in the public schools has taken a nosedive recently...
This is a perfect description of Nashville. It is a nice small community but the clique doesn't let you in. And the clique's kids play with the clique's kids so breaking in your kid can be hard. We have had four kids go through the school system. As a blended family 2 of our children came from third and fourth generation families (their Dad)- they had no issues with school and friend.... Ane then 2 of our children came from a diffrent family background. Even making the sports teams at try outs was harder... All I can say is, the description of "in crowd" and high school is very, very accurate.

I like Nashville,Il.,most people take a lot of pride in the upkeep of their homes which is good for retaining home values.
Oh there is exceptions when it comes to slum lords renting to undesirables.
If you plan on moving to Nashville I hope your not on welfare, are lazy,or a female welfare breeder.
I'm full a full blooded German and proud of it,Germans make solid citizens, good hard workers, are not lazy and we take pride in our homes.
Thank God this town doesn't look like Centralia or Mt.vernon.

Now that the prison in Pinckneyville is in full swing I've noticed more strangers roaming around, that's why our police force keeps an eye on strangers and gives them more tickets. If you don't want to follow the rules then ...MOVE!!!!! or we don't want you Moving here.

If you have money, you might be ok with it. If you are poor and drive a crappy car, the police will not leave you alone and you will be looked down on. Nashville is not the place to be.

I value our great little town.
True most of us don't welcome lazy people living off welfare, people who don't take pride in their homes, yards and keeping clean.
I pride our town in blocking WALMART attempts to move here.
If you live in town and own your home you do not have to pay taxes on materials used on the up keep of your home and I think thats great because it gives added incentative to take pride in your homes etc.,just go to city hall and ask for copies of the tax exemtion form to give to your local Nashville,IL. retail store.
My hope is that someday Illinois could be split into Northern,IL. and Southern,IL.
Northern,IL. namely Chicago gobbles up all the taxes collected in Illinois and they send all their criminals and misfits to the prisons that have been allowed to be built here that frankly most of us don't want.
Sure these prisons have created a few extra jobs buts they have been a curse to us all because most of these inmates are from up-north where their relatives come down here to visit and cause trouble.
I personally despise these prisons and all the scum it attracts.
By the way I'm a full blooded German and proud of it!!!!

Oh yes I'm very glad that Nashville,IL. does not look like most of Centralia,IL. and parts of Mt.Vernon,IL.
Outside of Nashville,IL. I think Pinckneyville,IL. is a very good town.

Anyone have a clue as to why Centralia looks like a dump?
Centralia looks like it is becoming the NEW East St.Louis of Illinois.
Centralia has all those sleezy bars, tattoo shops etc.
Plus Centralia smells bad....must be those crappy alleys full of junk, garbage and debris where rats.cats and stray dogs roam.

I moved there when my son was 13. He was totally miserable. He made one friend, a kid the other kids had fight him. He didn't want to fight. He won, and that was his only friend. Anywhere else, Chris makes friends easily, and is always well liked. So, I moved him out of there, back to Marissa. He now works for Microsoft and pulls down 6 figures a year. I'm glad he didn't fit in with the little punks from Nashville. He sure didn't need their sorry asses.

There seems to be some confusion on whether the question is about Nashville, IL, or Nashville, TN. If you are considering Nashville, IL, don't let the naysayers scare you off. It's a great little town. Good schools, housing is comedically cheap by national measures, and there's almost no crone, aside from the drugs and domestics that you would find anywhere. You'll find the same cliques and folks who think they are local royalty as you will find anywhere else.

Long story short, if you are looking for people to resent, you can find them here or anywhere else. If you are looking for excellent quality of life, trying to make a home for yourself, and are want to get our of it what you are willing to put into it, you could do a whole lot worse.
