Many -- NOT all listed on the Internet site you mentioned are puppy mills.
Why would you send a deposit before you inspect his kennel. Read the past posts on what to look for. And he breeds many different breeds and that's not good since he doesn't strive for the betterment of the breed.
Go see for yourself!
Good luck

For those of you who think the AKC is so great? Read this!

Why doesn't the AKC stand up for the dogs being held hostage in the most inhumane conditions possible? Puppy mills?

It’s all about the money. The AKC earns big bucks from commercial breeders...puppy mills.

"An estimated 40 percent of the AKC’s annual $61 million revenue comes from dog registrations. Of that amount, the largest percentage of the funds come from mass breeding operations…many of which are puppy mills. Between 2011 and 2013, AKC revenue dropped 13 percent. As revenue drops, the AKC is holding on to the area where they get the most dough – commercial breeders.

The AKC is often on site at dog auctions – where breeding stock is auctioned off from one puppy mill to the next. They pass along registration papers for any dog with the right pedigree – that means a dog is the offspring of two other registered dogs. It does not mean that the dogs have been responsibly bred."

In my book? They don't give a darn about the dogs....hypocrites!!!

So this web site only posts those against having dog breeders. One day dogs will become extinct if you have your way! Then no one will get to know the love of a dog. You have done your work so well in my state only big ugly cross breed dogs are left. Like some lab pit bull cross that you can get from your neighbor. I guess you will refuse to post this also!!! shame on you.

Get rid of your anger....it is so misplaced! But if you want to be angry, get angry at puppy mill breeders who keep their dogs in horrendous conditions. Get angry at people who refuse to rescue a dog and the fact that there are over 3 million dogs a year put to sleep because no one wants them.

And you call some dogs big ugly cross breed dogs? Don't tell me you love dogs.....all dogs are lovable no matter what they look like.

Shame on you....and dogs will never be extinct but what I hope is that all puppy mills will be extinct!

I'm looking for a min goldendoodle (preferably 1st generation) & I've come across & spoken with Steven Stoltzfus and Dave Fisher, in Parkesburg and Holtwood, PA respectively. I do plan on visiting before deciding. Has anyone dealt with either?

Steven Stoltzfus is a big commercial breeder. He is licensed to breed 501 + dogs a year. For the past three years he has failed inspections because of his ventilation system not working. That may not mean anything to people but to puppies kept in kennels like that there is no air circulation and in summer can bake and in winter freeze. Last inspection on 1/29/14 still had not corrected it. He was given written and verbal warning. He was also told to allow a vet within 48 hours of inspection to check out his dogs. That tells me he doesn't care about the health of his puppies, mother dogs, etc. I would not give this guy money for one of his dogs.

Could not find anything on Fisher and yes absolutely go see any breeder you are interested in personally to see how mother dogs are treated and what kind of conditions puppies are kept in and be sure they are socialized. Good luck!

Looked up some more info - David Fisher breeds "designer dogs"....e.g. Golden doodles, Bernie doodles. Tells me he is into what public now wants, designer dogs which are mixed breeds. The golden doodles he has are second generation and I would be careful since if the genes come out more poodle you will have a very active dog.

I posted a website on the downside of designer dogs on previous posts.
Look it up, interesting reading.

Do your homework,,,,,before paying for a mixed breed. There are so many in shelters all over, that need homes too. 3 million dogs are killed in shelters every year because no one wants them...shameful.

<quoted text>Hi Ginny I just placed a deposit on a puppy from cavachons by design. I should be picking the puppy up in July. I have had a tremendous amount of contact with Yvonne through e mail, and she couldn't be sweeter. Every question and comment has an answer. I hope you are thrilled with your new little one. I'd love to see it's picture.
I purchased a puppy from Cavachons by design for a large sum of obey ($1800 plus shipping). At midnight the night before he was suppose to fly here I got an email from Yvonne stating that he had ear infections and a hernia. I sent her back an email stating that I did not want to follow through with the purchase in light of this. I had planned to breed him with my poodle and I wanted a fully intact and healthy dog to breed responsibly. She argued with me and told me she was going to have to charge me for the vet visit which was needed for the airlines health certificate, which is ludicrous in light of the problems noted. She insisted a hernia is "no big deal". She chastised me for wanting to breed him and not disclosing this.(There was no contract for spay or neuter) nor did it day anywhere on her website that breeding was prohibited. I have breeding experience, but have not done so for over 10 years. I again requested a refund and thusfar have been ignored. I would NOT recommend this breeder.

Thank you, Lovaldogs! After reading on internet several articles and replaying my conversation with Steven Stoltzfus over in my mind, my radar was up. He didn't seem encouraging when I had told him that I wanted to visit a couple of weeks before a litter would be available for adoption so we could see the puppies and mother and get a sense of personalities & which one would most likely be a fit for our family. He sort of told me to give him a call when I was ready to bring one home. Regarding "designer breeds" in general, I have to admit that deciding on a breed for my family is a little overwhelming; a have a large family with children ranging in age from 1-1/2 - 17 years. Golden retrievers seem perfect in terms of temperament and energy level, but my oldest has (very mild) asthma (& allergies, though he tested negative for dogs, cats, and rabbits) and a few other family members voiced a concern over excessive shedding. I plan on visiting my local vet (whom I used for my 7 year old rabbit --who passed in October) & asking for more guidance re: breeds, shelters, breeders, etc.
Thanks again for your insight; I won't even waste my time visiting Stoltzfus now!

You're welcome and I'm not surprised at the answers Steven gave you. He wanted to lock you in to buying a dog and if you came after puppies were born? Who could resist a cute little ball of fur. He knew you would not walk away. That is why I recommend doing your homework before buying a dog.

Good idea to talk with your vet. Your vet is the best to get recommendations from. The fact your son is not allergic to dogs is good but you should remember there is really no such thing as a non allergenic dog. Goldie's personalities are great for a family your size but I agree withe the shedding issue. I've owned two and could have made blankets from their hair. Why not a yellow lab? They have shorter hair and are great family dogs.

And rescue shelters in your area can also be a great source of your new family member. Lots to choose from.

Good luck to you!!

We bought our Cavatzu, Stella, from TLC Kennels and she is happy and healthy and the sunshine in our family!! The facility was impeccably clean and Stella was playful and well groomed from the get go. We have referred many friends to TLC, as they easily live up to their name!

Besides her awesome personality, Stella does not shed and does not seem to trigger pet allergies with those who have them.small fried

More info on TLC.......he was a big commercial breeder and his puppies were not socialized well at all. Many reports of aggressive puppies that nip and bite. When you have over 56 puppies at a time, how do you socialize them? You can't...and he most likely took them from their mother too soon who would teach them bite inhibition.

Kathleen? You were lucky .....

I know these posts are old but I bought a Boston Terrier off of a Stolzfus 3 years ago. I sent my husband to what I thought was a nice farm to pick a dog out for our kids. My husband called me when he got there and said the dog looks sick. I told him to bring a dog home and we would get it well no matter what. So he brought me my fur-baby Charley. He had 4 different types of worms. covered in fleas and horse poop. he had a sinus infection and an upper resp infection. Got him all well. Then found out he has a zinc problem where his body does not make any zinc and he gets painful bumps on his body if he doesn't get a pill everyday. So he gets a zinc pill every day. All in all I hate the Stolzfus that did this to my charley but he is the best dog ever! i love him and everything about him. He is the most loyal dog I have ever owned. He guards my children with his life. He is my best friend but the Stolzfus needs to be stopped

The only way to stop these people is NOT TO BUY FROM THEM! For every puppy bought? The mother dog breeds more to make more puppies for these greedy people!

Stop buying from puppy mills period!!!

We bought 2 Cockapoos, brother and sister from the same litter. Boy for us and girl for friends totally awesome puppies and a great experience doing business with them.

I think the problem is that the Amish think these dogs are livestock and treat them like animals and not like furry people the way some on the boards think they should. They are dogs!!! Both puppies had standard puppy issues, needed shots, some ear infections but all totally normal and healthy. Great dogs and Ben was a pleasure to do business with. Ours is the practice favorite at the Vet and groomer. Would drive the 7 hours and do business with him again.

Both dogs were partly crate trained and on the road to house broken when we got them at 8 weeks, that is proof that they are not coming from a puppy mill.
