I dealt with greenfield puppies. I got a chorkie from Steve Stoltzfus and he was very healthy and happy. We took him to the vet and had no problems. I would recommend them to you.

The Jack Russell that my friend got at EZ Puppies in Narvon,PA is now 8 years old without any health problems so far. Maybe it was because he was 8 weeks old when he got the puppy.
also, lovaldgs do you know any Amish people who breed Dalmatians? I'm not looking for one right now, the Dal I have now is 12 years old and is also from that area. But in the future I would like to find another good one, like the one I have.
I got a westie and a Jack Russell from EZ Puppies in Narvon about seven years ago. I haven't had any health problems out of either one of them. I am trying to find out if they are still in business.

To chummer...why would you ask about buying a dog from the Amish? Most (not all) run puppy mills and the dogs are kept in horrendous conditions and most puppies are sick and sold anyway. The breeder dogs are so badly treated that these people should be ashamed of themselves. Want a good Dalmation - call your local vet for recommendations of a good breeder.

Those of you that have bought dogs from these mills are very lucky that you got a healthy dog...good for you. BUT it is rare not the norm!

To jstrick - EZ Puppies in Narvon has closed down voluntarily as of October 9, 2009. Had some warnings on the condition of his kennels and rather than bring his kennels up to standard because of the new regulations, he closed down. He was a big commercial breeder, breeding 251-500 dogs a year. Puppy Mill? Sounds like it.

And many mills are shutting down rather than spend the money to upgrade their breeding facility. All about money for them and if they have to spend it to keep dogs healthy and in a good environment, they won't do it.

I am from MO and keep hearing that MO is one of the worst puppy mill states in the US. I volunteer at a local city animal control center and EVERY WEEK they have about 10 dogs and 20 cats that will be KILLED unless a rescue group comes to their aid. Aren't things a little out of balance? So puppy mills keep cranking out these poor, disease-ridden, sad pets, many of whom end up in "shelters" where they are killed.
Please, someone, tell me of an active group I can join to stop the insanity!

I really hope that Greenfield puppies is honest when it says it does not support puppy mills. I just purchased a puppy 2 days ago...had no idea where the GPS was bringing me..but it was an amish farm...got stuck about 1/2 way up a mile long driveway...owners had to walk the pup to me. I wish I would have seen where he was living. He smelled like a big farm, but after a bath he seemed happy and healthy. I can't speak for everyone, but my puppy came with papers stating his shots and with his ACA registration papers stating his breed...even with some puppy food.

They do advertise for puppy mills no matter what they say. Many of their breeders are puppy mills. They can lie on their internet site as there are no regulations regarding that. Jennifer I really hope you are one of the lucky ones and have gotten a good puppy. I hope you have taken him to your own vet to be checked out and the paper stating he got his shots was signed by a vet you can call to be sure.

Anyone thinking of purchasing a puppy from a big commercial breeder in PA? Please read the following link as it explains exactly what registration papers mean....you will be very surprised.

I am looking for a Shihpoo dog. I love their even temper and I have heard they are relatively easy to train. After visiting Greenfield Puppies on the Web we checked out a shihpoo breeder who turned out to be an Amish farmer. I do not remember his name unfortunately. He only showed us the mother who looked somewhat dirty. I dont know where the father was.

After reading all of these posts I would prefer to find a legitimate breeder or a rescue that has a young Shihpoo dog. Does anyone out there know where I can find a Shihpoo. We live in Oakhurst, NJ, but are going to be on vacation during Easter break, and are willing to travel up to 200 miles to pick up our future sweetie pie.

Suzi, Very smart decision to walk away from the farm. Sounds like a puppy mill for sure. And the mother dirty and he's showing you her anyway...not good. Wonder what the puppies looked like or how they were living.)-:

Since you want a mixed breed why don't you consider rescuing one. Get on petfinder.org and start looking or check out Main Line Rescue in PA. You have to also be very careful with these "designer dogs" since they have a tendency to have the worst traits from both breeds.

You can call your local vet too and ask them for suggestions on where to get the Shihpoo if that's the dog you really want.

But - try the rescue sites first...I'll bet there is a little mixed breed dog that will give you "forever love" if you give them a "forever home"...(-:

I'm looking for a female red Shiba Inu puppy. I live in Northern Virgina, but will travel up to Pennsylvania or down to North Carolina to pick one up. Does anyone know a reputable breeder? I've already checked Petfinder and did not see any.
Thanks!

I would be VERY careful and go see where dogs are bred and meet both parents. Intercourse, PA unfortunately has many puppy mills.

Most of the big commercial breeders are now getting into the designer dogs because that is where the money is. This particular seller is not listed so he either is operating without a license or is a small backyard breeder. However, looking at their ad my opinion is he is a big breeder and is under the radar for the regulations or the person selling them is "fronting" for a big mill.

Just be careful and DO NOT buy over the internet...go see the place. Call vet that signed off on the health certificates you should be given BEFORE buying puppy. Buy with your head not your heart. If breeder refuses in anyway to do what you ask, e.g. see breeding facility, no health papers, etc....walk away! He is hiding something. Save yourself some heartache.

We purchased a male Maltese born 6/09 from Pet's Plus in Langhorne. The breeder is listed as David Zimmerman in East Earl. We would like to get a female maltese and thought we should go to the same breeder. Is anyone familiar with him or know if he is reliable. Our puppy is wonderful and we want a friend for him.

Pets Plus is a pet store. Known outlet for puppy mill dogs and this chain has many complaints against them. Buy from a reputable breeder not a commercial breeder in PA.

He advertises on Greenfield Puppies which is known to have many puppy mills registered with them.

Beware....go see puppies and where they are bred. Call vet who's signature is on their papers BEFORE you buy. If you don't see parents, or where they are bred and breeder refuses to show you or gives you some excuse of why you can't...walk away!!!!

They are hiding something!!

Lovaldogs, thanks for you comment. I actually took a ride to see the puppies before I committed to one. They live on a beautiful farm and appeared to be clean. I didn't see the puppies parents but I did feel comfortable enough to put down a deposit on a puppy. I hope I'm ok.
