this article is misleading. Kennel owners should be given a fair chance just like every one else. The laws are extremely tough if followed by the inspectors. And a rogue officer can twist them to put even the best kept kennel out of business. Is this the SOVIET UNION or what? If newspapers were held to the same standards as Kennels this one would have been shut down, fined, and put in prison.
Don't believe everything you see in the news. get active and see for your self the finer kennels in PA.

This is the first good piece of investigative work TMC has done in a long time. Good job.

Rusty, don't make excuses for the pigs out there who would severely mistreat animals to save a buck--they positively exist and have been getting away with it for a very long time. Those in compliance need not worry.

I love this article! When my husband and I went looking for a dog, we went to a breeder/kennel (will stay nameless). They wouldn't even let us look at where the dogs were kept, just brought them out to us. We weren't going to buy a dog that day, but we just couldn't let the puppy stay in that place! Horrible! He's a member of the family, he deserves the best!

PA's approach to this problem is precedent setting and I am glad to be a part of it. The new DLE knows they have a big plow to push in this project, and uphill too, past kennel owners that have been sub-par for way too long. Next will be setting rules and punishments for the inspectors that aren't doing their jobs. I hope other states are watching what the PA DLE is doing and catch on quick. Animals deserve a chance. Kennels...and most notably puppy mills...look at dogs as a cash crop with little maintenance. Don't get me wrong...there are a lot of responsible kennels in PA. I've seen a few of them first hand. But then again, I've seen the other end of the spectrum. And that is where the problem lies. Time to clean it up...because we can.
