Hello, I ran across this website and was reading from everyone's experiences. I have to say I had a good experience with Stephanie. She was nice, professional and made sure I knew all about my puppy before I left. I asked a ton of questions and she answered them..My father went with me, being as what I have read on this website before I went, I was a little skeptical. I went expecting the worse and I have to say people on here have talked it up a lot worse then what I saw. My father is a extremely well known lawyer, he has actually checked into Stephanies business and found out that she has a business license, has regular random SPCA and Health department inspections, has all her licenses to breed and sell. He pulled up all this info to protect me incase something happened. We bought a Puggle puppy from her two weeks ago. The puppy has checked out fine by my vet and has found to be healthy. I grew up with pugs so the puggle was exactly what i wanted :). I am so happy I decided to go look at Rufus. He has turned out to be the best. I know everyone has different experiences, but since everyone likes to look at the negative sides of things and not post any positive I thought I would post that. He also looked into Puppy Love kennel in PA. That lady Joyce has been shut down for years, and has no affiliation with stephanie. They are not the same dogs. My Father made sure to have all the documentation from everything to insure I wasnt someone who went with a "loss" due to a sick puppy or anything. I hope that helps ease everyones minds who are stressing about their puppy.

I rescued a dog, it was supposed to be a lab mixed dog aprox a year. Turns out it had pittbull in it, exactly what I didn't want. How is it I did the right thing and adopted a dog and it turned out to be the worst mannered dog ever. And then when I told the shelter about it they acted as if it was my fault. I have young childen and it was aggressive around its food and didn't like my baby. I thought dogs were supposed to be screened before being adopted. I will be buying a puppy from a reputable breeder, how do you suppose I go about doing this? I don't want to buy someone elses problem dog again, any help is appreciated.

Pit bulls are wonderful dogs. No dog is born vicious. It's how they are raised and treated by humans that have given them a bad name. If you got your dog when it was a year old, it had a whole year of history behind it and it could have been abused and never around kids.

Most rescue agencies should do the temperament training and screening but it sounds like the rescue group you dealt with didn't. Your dog sounds food aggressive which should have been tested for by the rescue group. And dogs need guidelines and rules which yes is the responsibility of the owner. But for a year old dog,(any breed) that should be done by a professional or at least helped by a professional.

If you want a specific breed, call your local vet for recommendations of breeders in your area.

Just stay away from the big commercial breeders in Lancaster Co PA
and don't fall for their glitzy ads on the internet.

Good luck.

You were one of the lucky ones. Reading all the posts on this woman in the past, there are so many people who were not as lucky as you.

And for Joyce? She is still selling puppies under a different name in a different state...Maryland. She is always under the radar.

Question, where do you think this Stephanie gets her dogs? She can't possibly be breeding all of them herself.....and if so? Where? Did you see her breeding kennels???

I bet she gets them from puppy mills all over PA.

Only way to stop these people is to stop buying puppies from them! If they have no customers, they will go out of business.

If you want a lab mix, even though you had a bad experience with rescue, try it again. There are very good ones in PA....e.g. Main Line Rescue in Chester Springs, Humane League in Lancaster County and Animal Rescue League in Reading area.

For lab breeders I know of one that has a very good reputation. Here's their website...

http://www.whisperingpineslabs.com/

Good luck to you and your family...

James, did this pug/beagle mix puppy have black and white coloring , and born on 9-10-11? My husband and I went last weekend, and we picked out a puppy just like the one you are describing. When I asked why he was still there (we were wondering why because he was a few weeks older), she said it was because she did sell him, but that the owners lived in apartment, got in trouble, and couldn't keep him. I DID notice markings on his front paws, where his legs met his feet? I really hope this is not the same puppy, and that she did not lie to us!!!:(

my wife and I purchased a dog from stephanie in conowingo last saturday. when i called her earlier in the week, i thought she was a breeder who had a farm. so when we got to the storefront at the address she provided, i was kinda taken aback. we didnt plan on purchasing that day, we just wanted to check her out. and had i gone alone, i would not have bought a dog. but he was the last pug/beagle mix and my 3 year old daughter really wanted him. he had some deep cuts on his front paws, which stephanie said came from him playing rough with the other dogs. however, when we got him home, we noticed his front paws shaking constantly. my cousin, who has a dog, kept asking me about the dog's shots. i assumed he was current with his shots, but it was something sketchy about the 'bill of health' she gave us. so i googled 'stephanie's designer dogs' and foudn this message board. after reading this comments, and reading more about Puppy Love and Joyce Stoltzfus, we decided to take the dog back to her. she refunded our money with no problem. we really didn't have a complaint other than not feeling comfortable keeping the dog after finding out all of this news. we went to her trying to avoid purhasing a puppy mill pup.

These people will lie and do anything to get you to buy one of their dogs.

When will this insanity stop??? When people STOP buying dogs from pet shops, puppy mills and anyone that "fronts" for puppy mills. I believe that Stephanie is one of those people.

Buyer beware....do your homework BEFORE you buy a dog.

End-0-Lane kennels in Delta is a huge commercial kennel. He is licensed to sell 151-250 dogs a year. He sold 175 dogs in 2011. He advertises many different breeds.

The latest inspection under the new regulations was done in April 2011 and the kennel was filthy - as were the puppies - Their cages were covered in feces, insects, and they had matted hair etc. He was given a warning and inspectors came back in May and he "cleaned up his act"...

BUT, and this is a big but - many times these big kennels will clean up their act to pass reinspection but then resort to their old ways of not keeping up with the regulations.

Personally I would not buy a dog from him but that's just my opinion and everyone on here knows how strong I feel about the puppy mills.

If you do want to see this kennel, ask to see where dogs were kept and meet mother and father of puppy you are interested in. Ask to see health guarantee, with proof of shots and vet inspection etc. Call vet listed on that paper BEFORE you buy puppy. If owner won't show you what you ask for.....red flag, he's hiding something.....walk away.

Good luck...

I just wanted to update everyone on our puppy from Stephanie. We took him to the vet the day after we got him, because he was clearly sick and we also just didn't know what we could believe from Stephanie.

The vet said that he was younger than she said. The vet guessed him to be about 10 weeks, not 12, which means that when he was sold the first time he was only 7 weeks old.

The vet also that our puppy probably has more than just Beagle and Pug in him. Stephanie told us that his mom was a Beagle and his dad was a Pug. The vet thinks he has husky in him and my husband and I agree (and don't really care either way).

Our puppy also had a bad upper respiratory infection, and had to go on antibiotics. Stephanie told us she would cover the cost, but it was only $10--should I even fight for this? I am definitely reporting her, either way. Stephanie told us that the cough/lethargy our puppy had when we picked him up was due to the vaccine she had given him earlier that day. Yeah right.

Our puppy also had scabies, which looked almost gone (this is probably was what going on with his legs when the first person bought him). Everything else checked out okay, and thankfully he's going to be alright. We got back to the vet in two weeks.

I am so upset that I fell into this trap. Stephanie seemed so nice! I do not want to support her business, but we had already fallen in love with him, and couldn't just leave him there! She was supposed to be holding him until Christmas Eve, but as soon as I found out about her I went and got him the next day.

This whole experience has made me very sad. We just wanted to find a puppy with a breed that will work with our family (we have four young children). We HAVE adopted in the past, and had bad experiences there, too! I think people were talking earlier about the Humane Society "bending the rules" for people. Well, they did that for us 8 years ago. We rescued our previous dog and they said he was a "Lab/Golden Retriever Mix". They also said that he wasn't really fit for a house with children (we only had one child at the time), but they bent the rules and let us adopt him. Well it turned out that our Lab had Chow in him, and he could be very nasty at times. Never toward my children, thankfully, but he severely injured other dogs multiple times, and the SPCA eventually claimed him--much to our family's heartbreak.

I think you're taking a risk no matter what, bottom line. The key is awareness, which I clearly did not have enough of when I went to see Stephanie. She and her in-laws (Joyce and Ray) are slick! I didn't find out the bad things about them until (like everyone else) I got her last name from my bank statement. Her last name isn't even on the contract.

As someone mentioned earlier, it us not easy to adopt. I was turned down twice last year...once because i had a cat and next because I did not have a fence. We live on 4+ acres. Anyway, I ended up getting a dog from Stephanie and had no issues. Perhaps I was lucky. Now I want another and decided to try adopting again, especially after reading this thread. Sure enough,I was turned down again because we don't have a fence. The dog I was looking at was the same breed as my current dog and from a puppy mill, and they won't let me have him. I cannot see spending 1200-2500 for a dog. Someone needs to get their
priorities straight.

Still on the hunt for a good dog myself, can't beleive how many are having the same issues I am. I had a bad experience with a rescue dog. Guess it's a common trend even with the rescues to lie! Anyway, lovealldogs, I did check out the website you gave me and they don't have any for sale, it says to check back later. Just want a nice puppy within a reasonable price range. Not a show dog, just a pet, any other places you can suggest lovealldogs-would be appreciated-thanks for your help, you seem pretty "up" on the dog world so thought I might bend yor ear again!!

Hi Michelle,

Glad I could help. It is so hard for me to believe that the rescue places give potential adopters such a hard time with the thousands of dogs in shelters waiting for homes.

But having dealt with many over the years I can understand their strictness. Many of them will put out a dog to a family and for some reason the family decides they don't want the dog so it comes back to the rescue. That is why they are so strict. They want to stop the revolving door.....The fenced in yard rule by many can be modified once they meet you and you promise to keep dog on leash. Again, they have lost so many dogs that were adopted they are trying to stop that.

I don't know any other lab breeders in the price range you're looking for.(sorry)

The other place I would look is petfinder.org . They list so many dogs from various rescue groups I'm sure you can find one that will work with you.

Good luck.....

ONLY Buy from here if you want to have your wallet emptied of $$ but more so if you want to have your heart broken and a hole left in it with a memory of your sweet dog and the days/nights, weeks spent at an animal hospital with him trying to do anything to make him well. when you spend thousands of dollars that you would do over again and again if you could..trying not to ask "did i do everything i could?"..and your last memory is holding that sweet sweet boy as you have to let him go. That sweet boy who was there for you for only 5 short years but some of the 'hardest' times you've gone through and he was right there to nuzzle you and say "Mom..i'm here for you'. I learned the hard way and i have to say it has taken me a long time to get over the embarrassment the shame and the fact that I too was as UNIFORMED as anyone and fell into probably the same trap that anyone who gets a dog from one of these 717 area code breeders (OHIO, Missorori etc) I love animals SO much how could I have been SO BLINDED? And i think that happens to a lot of people and lets be honest those puppies WILL go to someone and most will either get sick and die or they will end up a ward of a rescue/shelter due to breeding and they are aggressive or temperment is bad.
Since then I've rescued 3 very large dogs same breed and the last one i just got a month ago is a 6 year old female BREEDER dog from the 717 area ...she is missing teeth, had so much matting and undercoat took them 3 hours to professionally groom her. But the MINUTE I met her, she came to me and flopped over lifting that paw to say.."rub please'...I knew that even if it cost me hundreds of dollars for even a month here in my home, SHE deserved that and it's my way of paying back to these animals. I try not to think of how devistating it is to loose a pet, so I focus on what can i do to make whatever time they have as good as they give back to me.
PLEASE..The people are so nice and the kids are so cute and it's just a business to them and I really do not mean it to be personal. I like in a lot to other countries, dogs are animals NOT PETS. remember: horses would be used to plow crops & transportation, livestock; milk & meat, chickens; eggs & meat...look at how much has been taken away and now throw in Dog Breeding...it's a business. And that is fine but i'm a firm believer that i don't want to get a beloved dog that i'm going to LOVE & take care and some day CRY over the loss of them of from someone that wouldn't feel that exact same way and wouldn't wtreat them like i'm going to...RIGHT?

Good post Kelly and so right on so many issues. I always advise people to stay away from the big breeders in Lancaster County. They are in it only for the money, and don't understand that dogs are pets not animals to be treated like farm animals. But if you look at some of their horses? They don't treat them so well either..

This is a good lesson for all to be sure of the breeder you are buying from and don't be "taken in" by what looks like a cute family with kids selling puppies. They are most like a "front family" for a big puppy mill.

Buy with your head not your heart or better yet. RESCUE, RESCUE, RESCUE.

Give a dog a forever home from his/her life behind bars in the shelters and they will always give you forever love!

Just got suckered at Stephanie's Designer Puppies in Conowingo. Called an ad on oodle.com . I assumed that I was going to meet a family with a litter of puppies. Got there and found that it was a pet store on 353 Rock Springs Road in Conowingo. If you are looking for a puppy, ask alot of questions. Never my intention to buy from Puppy Mill. She seemed so nice and I consider myself an intelligent person, in fact I am usually very suspicious of strangers. This place has a good scam going on. I was fooled. Anyway, got a puppy who is sick with kennel cough. I am greatful that is all that the dog has wrong, hopefully. Everything in retrospect seems crystal clear. Mother in law of Stephanie is Joyce Stoltzfus(Puppy Love Kennels) and she happened to be in the store at the time of purchase giving the puppy a vaccination. RESEARCH before you buy. I love my puppy and will not return dog to terrible place. In fact puppy is the smart and has great personality. That is the upside to this tale.

WE visited Stephanies puppies in Conowingo several times, looking for a maltipoo. there were so many red flags...how can one breeder have so many different breeds available? We wanted to see her home so we could check out the environment in which the dogs and puppies were raised and were told that because of a robbery at her house, we could not see where they were raised (she takes her puppies to a small store in Conowingo). We could not see either parents.

the health certificate was filled out by a vet who was convicted of animal abuse and who has a reputation of rubber stamping health certificates from puppy mills. the health certificate was one that anyone could have typed out for their own use...I have serious doubts that the puppy was ever seen by a vet. Had I read the posts from this site before I purchased a puppy, I never, never would have supported this heinous business. I am so mad at myself for not heeding all the warning signs. Stephanie talks a good talk, but to by a puppy from her or anyone with whom she is affiliated is to support all the sick people who run the puppy mills.
