How can you allow burning when people on Lake Norman burn their old piers, brush, fallen limbs and other trash they do not want? In the fall they burn piles of leaves that smolter for WEEKS.People can not safely breathe this smoke. You can not let your kids out to enjoy the water when someone decides to take a God given mulch and make polltion from it for the day or 1/2 a day or weeks. We all have the right to air that is not intentionally polluted . Why does no one care? Please tell me. I spent a lot of time waiting on the burning to stop so I can go outside. This is so wrong.

As you probably already know... Outdoor burning is allowed for natural vegetation only, if there is no burning ban implemented. If they are burning piers, mulch etc. this is not natural vegetation. Anything ran through a process is no longer consiered natural with few minor loopholes. However a burning permit can be void if the individual that is burning is causing problems for neighbors i.e. large amounts of smoke or the odor. The next time try contacting the Fire Dept.
