People love the trees in their neighborhoods but when the trees are severely damaged they will only become worse -- either by more storms or bugs that will lay eggs in the dead parts of the trees and their offspring will eat their way out and further damage the trees.
Live Oak trees do well in strong hurricanes --- if the people in the neighborhood have large enough yards then they could put live oak trees in their yards. If they are well off financially they could move some good sized live oaks from somewhere else to their property.
