Goodness that is just horrible! Sad that he didn't know how to swim at his age. I feel bad for his family. Drowning is a horrible tragidy....it took the life of my 3 year old son. This can happen to anyone at any age too.:(

If he wants to learn to swim, go to a YMCA pool, where they have life guards, and instructors that can teach him how swim. he might have to lay out a little money for private instruction as well. But it's better than trying to what he did.

I, too, wonder why he was teaching himself to swim. How do the police know that already?
What a horrible accident...

I am missing something. He was learning to swim, alone? If that was the case, who told the police he was learning to swim?

I was there when it happened. I saw the entire thing. He was not trying to learn how to swim. The pool jumps from 4 feet to 9 feet and our apartment complex did not have a rope up to seperate the two sides (they put one up this morning).

Seriously! if you're saying that the apartment complex di not have a rope to divided the pool that means that they are at fualt. What if it that were a child jumping or walking into the pool. The city of that state should investigate.

I live in an apartment and they have an attendant there - not a life guard. The sign says "No life guard on duty. Swim at your own risk." Children under a certain age are not allowed there unless they bring an adult with them. If the pool is closed, the two gates are locked.

I was not there but my 12 year daughter and her 13 yr old friend were the ones to call 911. I was wondering why it took children to respond to such a serious situation if there were adults on the scene. Oh, well... The reason the police knew he was teaching himself how to swing is because he was talking the the girls while they were in the pool. Because they knew he couldnt swim, they were watching him periodically; this was why they were conserned when they didnt see him and everyone else were having a good time around him under water. The girls did a good thing! Although a bit tramatized (because they honestly thought he did not make it) they are doing better knowing the unnamed man did not die and they contributed to saving his life.

i think they knew he was trying to learn how to swim from what they fond in his car.....a daily harold report says that they found a self help book in his car on how to swim...what makes no sense to me is i have been living at this property for some time now and you would think that the city would of noticed that there was no rope in the pool when they were cleared to open the pool every year..in the 5 yrs i have been here i have never seen a rope..dont they check for these things??? lisle should take some fault for this no only the apartment complex...
