It is inform you that I have been abused, intimidated and mistreated by employees at City of Naperville office at route 59 train station while trying to purchase a parking permit.
On July 11, 2009, I went to City of Naperville office to obtain long waited parking permit. I was asking questions regarding the use of Parking Permit. Every question I ask is being answered by another question by the front desk person (David). He seems reluctant to answer my questions. He was rude. It was court like atmosphere where my every question about the parking permit was interrogated. There was this lady sitting next to him in Khaki Security dress, she picked up the conversation and now both started behaving like lawyers.
Simple question like “Can the start date of the parking permit be next month?” was countered by their interrogative question such as “Don’t you want the parking permit? Why did you apply? Why you want it from next month? What your intensions? Then I have to give reason “I wanted to start from next month as we are already couple of weeks into current month and I am working from home this month”. Is this interrogation necessary? They could have just answered something like not possible or we don’t do that. That would be just fine!
Another Question I asked was “Will I get refunded if I cancel the Parking permit in the middle or after a month (for example)” I have been queried again like “Why do you want the permit if you have to cancel it?” Obviously, I don’t want to cancel this hard earned parking permit! In this bad economy anything can happen. I was thinking of my situation, that I may get transferred or laid off etc.
It felt like questions are not welcome at the office and simply purchase the permit and leave! Why it’s such a difficult get an answer from this people at City of Naperville. Was that look like egging the arrogant front desk guy? What is there to provoke them? These are simple Parking permit related questions, nothing personal?
Soon the Cop in the room got up and showed his authority and intimidated me in front of my 6 year old. On that day, my son was wearing costume police hat (He admires police and fireman. He wears those costumes on every Halloween). What kind of impression this policeman leaving on kids? Just because of asking questions, he got frustrated or tempered? He asked me in his “police voice”, do you have any further questions? I still don’t know where to park or what’s the time period of parking, which lot, Is there guarantee that I get parking spot if I come late etc. But now I can’t ask fearing any retaliation from the mad policeman. So I left quietly with my son who was visibly shaken watching the incident. Later outside, my son cried and told me he doesn’t want to be policeman. He did not expect the cop to be so rude. He said the cop supposed to help people, what did we do wrong daddy? Is this the friendly Front desk of City of Naperville were people admire to live?
Later on that day, I went to the City of Naperville downtown office to get clarification around the permit usage. I asked similar questions. I got very good answers. Just opposite to what I experienced at route 59 office. The people at the Finance department were very customer friendly, nice and polite. They answered all my questions with patience and in detail.
These are general questions that any commuter could ask. Was it fair to be intimidated or abused or interrogated in front of a 6 year child? This is a public office! It’s not a crime! It’s UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! I don’t know where to file complain against those three immature, arrogant and rude people.
I just like to give you all heads-up about this office and its employees. Please be careful!

Sorry to hear about your incident.
Glad you had better service at the City of Naperville finance office downtown. Unfortunately I have had dismal service with the folks in that office. One woman in particular is extremely rude and surly. Thought I had caught her on a "bad" day, but other folks have also commented on her unacceptable behavior. Perhaps she was cut when they had to lay off a few folks to balance the budget. Whoever runs that office should spend 2 hrs on a customer service seminar with the employees.
Unfortunately I equate many of the municipal center city workers with those I've encountered at the Secretary of State offices.... rude for the most part and waiting for their next break. I deal with them as infrequently as possible.

The man at the desk is nice and often goes out of his way to be helpful to everyone. I have never witnessed him being mean or standoffish to anyone and I am in that station everyday overhearing his interactions with many commuters.

He works for Metra not the city of Naperville so it is not his job or should he be expected to answer questions about the parking policy in Naperville.

When you signed up on the waiting list you should have been aware of the cancelation policies and all aspects of the agreement. Instead of peppering a Metra employee with continuous questions about something outside of his responsibility it would have been wise to consult the paperwork you received when you signed up for the parking pass or had your hand held by someone who was with the City of Naperville which you did later.

As for the Metra employees responding to your questions with more questions I have to say that I would be wondering myself why you would choose to be on a years long waiting list only to want to prolong the permit once you have obtained it. The world doesn’t work that way. How could the city of Naperville possibly plan for hundreds of parking permits holders to have the option to take a sabbatical from their parking access for a number of weeks or days? Your option of being able to get a credit for a period of time you don’t need the permit would lead to three outcomes; (1) A loss of revenue to the City of Naperville resulting in more of a burden to the taxpayer (2) Less parking spaces available to the public because a number of spaces would need to be left unsold in anticipation of people temporarily canceling and ultimately re-activating the permit (3) An absolute “Charlie Foxtrot” of an administrative boondoggle.

You are a buffoon and any reasonable person who reads your post would come to the conclusion that you are an ignoramus who chooses to blame others for your failure to accept responsibility once you applied for and received the parking permit.

At some point during the incident you state that the “cop” intimidated you. Most people who respect the police do not call them cops so you are setting a bad example.

You need to evaluate the fact that you are a wining, sniveling, petty complainer with the inability to be self-sufficient.

I take it that Clusterbuster is a government employee of some sort.

No need to go ballistic on the woman.

Government employees are famous for doing as little as possible. They are part of a social welfare program to hire those of little talent to get them off the welfare roles.

I am a commuter that uses that station and am not a government employee. If I were do you think I would be stating that this deadbeat needs a bit of motivation and self independence?

Hey whatthehell do you think Chandra is really Henry Louis Gates?

Mistreated? Seriously, your story sounded so far fetched its not even funny. I highly doubt your kid was visibly shaken and crying and said he didnt want to be a police officer after that incident. It was probably more like YOU telling your kid he couldnt be a police officer because you felt like you were being attacked (which in actuality you were not attacked). You probably asked some questions and they asked some back. Thats actually fantastic customer service! When you asked if the permit can start next month, they followed up by asking why? This is so they can evaluate your situation and answer your question appropriately. People like you need to stop thinking that everyone is out there to get you. The world doesnt work the way you want it to in your little mind. Nobody is at your beck and call. Grow up, act like an adult and get over it. If you had that much of an issue maybe you should move to a less affluent town and leave Napervile. We sure dont want you here.

chandra thank you for sharing this truthful information

the people leaving snide remarks are police officers mad because you are revealing the truth, Don't respond to them, do not get made, Just realize how the game is played.

Great community work Chandra, you a real true citizen of the great UNited states.

You did the right thing by exposing this situation

God Bless you

Might i suggest you use the Naperville public library to park for free all day, and just take a bicycle from there to the train.
See you can park at Nichols library for free and romp all over naperville and your car will be fine

Naperville doesnt care about its library patrons, they allow anyone to use their parking lot for free

Chandra to even futher support your story, I suggest naperville residents to go into the DMV on 75th street, you will be treated exactly the way Chandra is attesting to

As soon as you walk into DMZV their is guy who sits there and interrogates you as to why you are there.

I think Naperville DMV is the winner in treating Naperville residents like crap.

Don't beleive what i say here, go in and find out for yourself, start asking questions, look for manager tall guy white hair glasses, ask him questions and watch how he acts?

now i will even respond here to those of you who say "well i went it to get my inspection sticker and they were very nice to me"

Of course they were, you never asked any questions, you actted like a slave gave them their money and played by their rules

PS Naperville residents will know the truth

you people are funny, apparently topix is not about what is presented as fact, but it is about attacking the poster. Your games won't work here.

I beleive it is said best like this

"I might not agree with what you say, but i will defend your right to say it"

ploys being played

attacking me personally
attacking my education
Not allowed to make typos
assumes i have no education(in reality wants me to boast about where my education comes from.
Original Poster has not returned ,so this is probably a police setup blog to see who has a gripe with their local government

Luxury your enjoy that Disneyland

and thank you for showing me what topix is all about and how it works, real fast

Naperville, like so many surrounding communities is harboring and abetting illegal hispanic immigrants from Aurora and the city of Chicago
currently Naperville and the entire Chicagoland area is considered a sanctuary area by the INS and the ICE
there are many other ethnic communities that have
immigration violators; some with a history of criminal activities
demand that your employers and places of business require Everify be adopted in their hiring practices
please also note that the D.H.S. has a program with cooperating police agencies called the 287g program

until banks and police agencies discontinue the honoring of matricula cards as a valid form of id
those institutions should be considered dysfunctional and unamerican

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Although you're busy putting the finishing touches to your Christmas preparations, you'll also have to pay attention to someone who's feeling neglected or unloved. Luckily, it won't take much to make this person feel better, so a big hug or a little consideration might do the trick. You should also bear in mind that they may be feeling nostalgic or sad about the past.
