i guess if i were management this would be a great opportunity to get rid of many high paid long term workers who are reaching the retirement age soon or possibly reaching a locked in retirement and recieving company benefits once they reach that certian number of years they need to qualify for such benefits. another advantage could be to eleminate the 30.00 dollar an hour guys with 15.00 dollar an hour contract workers and make it some-one elses responsibility to provide them with health insurance if any at all being they will be considered temporary workers also making some-one else responsibile to pay their workers comp. and to pay for the contract workers physicals. it just dont seem fair that a company worker should lose his job to a contract worker but it wasn't fair when union workers lost their jobs to non-union workers when massey energy took over, i guess it's kinda a karma thing, just my opinion. you said massey was great and then alpha was even greater. it's all about production, right?

They are laying off at a lot of mines. Afriend of mine just got a job running a miner at one of these mines. I am glad for him but I know they laid off people who could run a miner. Thats what you get when you have no one to protect you. somebodys buddy needs a job and your the odd man out.

Join the UMWA. They will stand up for your rights. With this young generation it is all about the money. They don't care a thing about their fellow man. The companies have convinced this generation that they don't need a union.

this generation grew up in good times where mommy and daddy gave them anything they wanted and they were taught to take care of number one and srcew everyone else, now times r going to get tough again w/ no jobs and now comes the karma. remember the old saying be careful who u step on going up yhat ladder because u will pass them on the way down.

you all don't know what the UMWA was about. my dad and grandfather was one of the GREAT UMWA MINER'S AND WHEN THEY HAD LAYED OFF WORKERS THEY DIDN'T LET THE COMPANIES BRING IN CONTRACTORS TO WORK LIKE THEY HAVE FOR THE PAST 15 TO 20 YEARS. SO DON'T TALK LIKE THE UNION WILL HELP THEY WOULD ONLY BE A SCAB ON THE OLDER UNION MEN'S BUTT. ANOTHER WHEN THESE COMPANIES HAD MEN LAYED OFF THEY LET "SO CALL UNION MEN" WORK AS MANY HOUR'S AS THEY WANTED. DO YOU CALL THESE UNION BROTHER'S OR SISTER'S. I KNOW THIS IS THE TRUTH BECAUSE MY BROTHER WORKED LIKE THIS FOR YEARS AND MADE MONEY IN THE SIX FIGURES. HE STILL CAll'S HIS SELF A UMWA MEMBER TOO. DON'T THINK I DON'T TELL HIS REAR OFF ABOUT THIS TOO. JOHN L. LEWIS HAS TURN OVER IN HIS GRAVE SO MANY TIME HE KNOW LONG HAS THOSE LONG EYEBROWE'S.
