Does anyone remember an estate in Crugers, NY called "Laurel Acres" in the 1950-60s era? Jackie Gleason lived there a short time. I believe a development of homes has since been built there. If you recall this, please reply.

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to find out if anything remains of the estate called Laurel Acres that Jackie Gleason lived at for a short time because my grandparents also owned the estate for some time during the reference time period. I wanted to go back there to visit, but have no idea where it was in Crugers since I was little girl at the time we used to visit there.

Yes! He lived on Laurel Hill Road Just off The Albany Post Road (9)
I moved to Crugers about 1953-1954.
At this time his house was being torndown.
I lived about a 1/4 Mile through the woods from there.

Thank you for your response. What a coincidence that you posted your response today. I haven't been back to this forum since May when the last person posted a reply. I was just searching Google Earth today and actually located the house and grounds that I was inquiring about. It appears that the original home is still standing. I plan to go visit it in the coming weeks and I'm hoping the owners will allow me to see it. Perhaps Jackie Gleason also lived in another home in the area in the early 50's. He only rented my grandparents home for one year.

[I just found this posting, I lived in laurel acres as a kid, my mother divorced and married a someone with his own business in Europe and set up Laurel Acreas' basement as his business space, I remember the house so acutely, a tennis court and a pool, a huge living room, a porche enclosed next to the materbedroom, we moved from there in 1963 to Costa Rica where my step father had a 6 mos stint there, they decided to stay because it would mean there were many miles between my father and mother, and so she stayed in San Jose and then moved to Bolivia. I knew that Gleason lived in the house before us but I was 6 and had no idea who that was. I have the original real estate listing.

Dorothy -- Your story is so interesting! Yes, you remembered the house very well based on how you described it. If you left there in 1963, your step-father must have set up his business there shortly after my grandparents sold that house. I know that at some time during the '60s there were some nuns living there. I would love to see the real estate listing you have, if possible!

Just found this. Grew up in that area in the mid 70's. Used th entrance as a bus stop. I never saw the house and was always wondering what was up there.
